      Day 3 - May 21

      21 maja, Anglia ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Today was a typical English day. We started the day with a Full English breakfast (actually we had a half) at a family run cafe. Feeling full of energy and ready to tackle a day of exploring, we set off for a day of visiting museums. We began with a lovely walk through Hyde Park with stops at Kensington Palace and Kensington Gardens. A particularly moving moment when we wandered the Sunken Garden that Princess Diana used to enjoy, and saw the monument that her sons commissioned in her honour for what would have been her 60th birthday. From there we encountered some swans and ducks in the pond, and a particularly mischievous swan who tried to steal from my backpack. We enjoyed and learned so much during our tour at the Royal Albert Hall, an ncredible feat of engineering and fascinating historical stories were a few of the highlights. We then continued to the Museum of Natural History and the Victoria and Albert Museum, both of these were interesting but didn't hold the same appeal for me. Mother Nature did her part to ensure we experienced a true British day with a downpour to walk back to our hotel. Dinner at the local pub concluded a quintessential British day. Czytaj więcej

Tower Bridge, London Eye & Big Ben

      7 czerwca, Anglia ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

After a pit stop to rest our feet, we attempted to get up to the Sky Garden. We originally tried to get tickets, but none were available (think you need to book them weeks in advance) but thought we'd try our luck walking in. We were turned around, but it was worth a shot.

We made our way over to get a glimpse of the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. We then caught an Uber Boat up the Thames to Westminster. We did our landmark sighting of the London Eye, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, and Westminster Abbey. Big Ben is definitely a lot more impressive in person, and we never realised the amount of gold detailing around the clock face until we saw it.

With a well deserved recommendation we popped into the St Stephen's Tavern for a pint and some dinner. The beer was good, but the bangers & mash were better! Apparently this little pub was frequented by many politicians, including Churchill.

We met up with Rita and her colleagues again after dinner, and visited the Chesterfield Arms before heading to China Town. A bit of an unintended late night meant the London Underground wasn't running trains back to our hotel, so we had to splurge on a cab. Have to say the cabs were very comfortable, and with their setup of 6 seats in the back facing towards each other, there was plenty of space and it was very sociable.

We've now ticked off most of the big ticket icons in London, but still one more big one yet to come!

      Day 2- May 20

      20 maja, Anglia ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

A fabulous day exploring London on a Hop On Hop Off bus. While we may not have chosen the best bus company, we certainly saw and enjoyed many sights. The other companies had busses with very few passengers while the one we chose was packed, so much so, we had to stand at times!! Maybe the other busses are empty for a reason?? Regardless we had a fantastic day enjoying London on a glorious sunny day. Some of the highlights include a river cruise on the Thames River, riding the bus over the Tower Bridge, a delicious lunch in Soho, and ice cream while strolling in St. James Park. Our day ended with a scrumptious pub dinner. Czytaj więcej

      Day 1 - May 19

      20 maja, Anglia ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

After a long, smooth flight, we arrived safely at Gatwick to a glorious, sunny day in London, England. We joined the throngs of confused tourists to navigate our way to the train station. After a few attempts, we triumphantly made it through the turnstile to Gate 4. We enjoyed a crammed ride to downtown London. A last minute decision on our part had us walking to our hotel rather than catching a bus. It turned out to be a great decision as we stumbled across the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. Incredible! We had a lovely walk through Hyde Park with a stop at a cafe. We were both exhausted and struggling to lift our feet for the final part of our long, gruelling walk. When we arrived at our hotel, we were both concerned when we realized the walk was only about 3 km. We finished our first day with a delicious dinner at a pub across from Hyde Park, sitting outside on the upstairs patio. Czytaj więcej

      Paddington and Hyde Park

      27 września 2023, Anglia ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

This half of Hyde Park is much prettier than the part I was in before. Apparently I found the boring part last time :P This part even comes with its own archetypal pigeon guy! Side note, the Paddington area I'm staying in is super cute! Czytaj więcej

      London's Next

      2 czerwca, Anglia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Today is sad because we have to disembark the ship. Now, who's going to cook? Who's going to provide fresh towels and make my bed? Ah, the luxuries of cruising. We are all packed up and looking forward to London. We dock I Southampton, UK. It is a beautiful day in Southampton, I'm hoping for the same in London. We have to catch a train and then the tube to our hotel. Wish us luck!

We have breakfast and make it off the ship. I already have 2500 steps in at 9:00 AM. I hired a ride to get to the train station in Southampton. They use Bolt app over here. We get our tickets and the train arrives 15 minutes later. We take the train to London Waterloo and then we catch a Tube to Paddington. This is a 109 km or 68-mile trip. So that is a ship, a car, a train, and then an underground all before noon. I think I'm going to need a nap!

We found our hotel after navigating the rail and tube. Our room is quite small but it is London. That means you pay a fortune for a small room. However, we won't be in it for long. We drop our bags and head down to grab a bite to eat. There is a nice Italian restaurant across the street from our hotel. Yes, please! After dome food we head to the Tower of London. Laura must see the Crown jewels. We do the tour with a very nice Beefeater named Gary. He gave us a brief history of the tower, and then we went I to see the tower. There are 292 steps up ( and another 292 down) . There are many exhibits ranging from the horse statues to weaponry. After I kill myself in the tower, we head over to the Crown Jewels exhibit. When I was here 10 years ago, they had many more jewels on display. However, Laura got her fill of bling. (She snuck through twice)

We head back to Paddington and find a Mexican restaurant called Wahaca.

      London arrival

      7 czerwca 2023, Anglia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

This morning we had our final breakfast at the cafe next to our hotel and by 930 we were being driven to the airport by a much better behaved Lorenzo today. Check in etc was fine and we did leave on time but the plane was delayed at the Heathrow and having to wait for ages to Disembark. getting the pre booked Heathrow express was easy and finding our hotel was also easy and it is in a lovely area near Hyde Park full of beautiful white homes. Our own Aspen apartments does leave quite a bit to be desired but still cost a lot!!! We walked down and had a good dinner at the Victoria hotel which Craig had researched in Adelaide. Clearly London will be more expensive than Palermo but we are staying in a really beautiful area and enjoyed walking through the mews and seeing all the greenery and flowers. Czytaj więcej

      It's London Baby!!!!

      10 lipca 2022, Anglia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Well, we made it. London. So far the kids are most excited about London which is cool. But first... we had to say goodbye to Edinburgh. We started the day with a goodbye toast. We cracked open a bottle of butterscotch beer, all said our goodbyes and walked to the train station. We were really early... again... so we swung by Sir Walter Scott's monument which is located just outside the train station. Somehow, we missed it when we arrived.

Then it was on the train on our way to London. After an uneventful train ride we arrived amongst the hustle and bustle of Kings Cross Station. Our first order of business is to get Oyster cards and learn how to maneuver the underground tain system. We fumbled around a bit but got it figured out and we were off to our apartment. It is... small... but we hope we aren't here much. After getting unpacked, we headed out for food. The kids were craving fast food so we stopped to get some on the way to Hyde Park which is located about 5 blocks from our place. We sat and had a picnic in the park surrounded by locals playing soccer, badminton and walking their dogs. Super fun. Then, we were off to wander the park. I felt like we walked from one end to the other. We saw Kensington Palace. And there was a concert series going on in the park so we walked all the way down to get closer to that. Then over to see the Peter Pan statue and the Italian gardens. Hyde Park is huge and full of people. Lots of rollerskaters and "interesting" people. We loved it. But everyone was starting to wear down so we headed to the grocery store to stock our fridge with food and headed back to our apartment. Not sure if we will head out again tonight but for now we are just lovin' bein' in London.

After a slow start to the day, we managed to pack on the steps and finished just under 20,000. It is hot here so that is slowing us down a bit. We shall see what we get done tomorrow. Until then....
