      evening one.. Lubbock

      May 15, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Nearly made it at Amarillo. But terrible rain and my bike actually only going 200 yards at a time, between breaking down slowed our progress. Luckily I whipped the petrol tank off and replaced the small vacuum hose that had split. Fix anything me!
Checked into a motel. Dry off our boots and have a quick dip m the hot tub to warm up. Nice ribeye steak and chips to finish the day off. So maybe a little drama on day one, but success non the less.
Texas is a big place. Total trip distance today 407 miles.

      Lubbock, Texas

      April 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

The contrast between the pump jacks and wind turbines was on stark display all along our route today as we traveled through west Texas.

They call the turbines the State Bird of Texas, with good reason. There are over 10,000 of them in the state, which makes Texas the nation's leader in wind energy. It beats out the state in second place - Iowa - by a huge margin.

We could not believe our eyes. Mile after mile as far as the eye could see were wind turbines. Thousands of them. It seems to be a really great deal for all parties involved. The farmers rent the land to the wind farm operators so everyone makes a profit. Not to mention the jobs that are brought into the area and the lower energy costs.

      A real win-win for all.

Denny and I arrived in Lubbock, Texas 60 years and a few months after "The Day The Music Died."

Buddy Holly was born here and after that fateful plane crash on February 3, 1959 he was buried here.

We played his music as we drove into town singing along to some of our favorite songs. With his signature horn-rimmed glasses and Fender Stratocaster guitar he cut quite a figure in his/our time.

      "True Love Ways"
      "Peggy Sue"
      Oh, Boy"
      "That'll Be the Day"
      "Maybe Baby"

      Thank you, Buddy.

      Tag 9: Amarillo - Adrian - Lubbock

      April 11, 2013 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 9 °C

      Santa Fe

      October 2, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 82 °F

We traveled to Santa Fe, New Mexico where we spent a couple of days. The first day we explored the plaza area and visited the oldest church and home in America. We also visited Loretta Church which has a circular staircase with no central or side supports. Supposedly the nuns needed a way to get to the choir loft but normal steps would take up too much room. They asked a carpenter to build steps in the small church to get to the choir loft. The next day the circular steps were built and the carpenter disappeared. The steps are considered unique. The plaza also has a lot of very nice art galleries. We went to eat at Santa Fe Mac, which is run by a guy from Pittsburgh. He even had a terrible towel hanging in the store. There are a lot of museums in Santa Fe as well. We debated about going to the Georgia O'Keefe or Meow Wolf. We chose Meow Wolf. There was one in Denver as well and it looked interesting. It was completely different, an interactive art, storytelling, problem solving, exhibit. The main part is a house with information about a family. You are supposed to figure out what happened to the family and they were into time machines and messages from outer space. From different places in the house you could get into a different world - the abstract kind of art. You got there through the refrigerator, closet, dryer, etc. So interesting. We solved the 4 questions and got a sticker!! We went to Second Hand Brewery for dinner and then to our very dark and lonely campfire in the national forest. There was no one camping near us!Read more

      3Score plus traveling to Lubbock

      June 28, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 77 °F

We left Tyler at 6:30am and drove towards Dallas. Again we stop at Buc eyes for a bathroom break. At Hope Coffee and finally to Juliet Fowler.

We ran into Susan Malphurs there at JF. She worked at the CAM office when Glenn was there.

We enjoyed a hamburger lunch at Northwest Bible Church with mom and dad.

We left early before the program and drove to Lubbock. We enjoyed 2 hour visit with Hugh and Mary Jane Archer. We’ve known them since 1980 from Grand Prairie Bible Church. What fun to remember our times together. Tim and his 2 adult kids came over for a visit. Hugh didn’t have much to say - adult dementia/memory loss.

      Heading back to Texas

      October 15, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 64 °F

      Today was a challenge
      1. Asked at 4:30 am if I could crew. Made it to field and high winds and a transmission problem in case vehicle. No one was able to fly.
      2. Packed up and started out of campsite, some how caught a safety cone under front bumper
      3. I-40 was closed of course after I got on.
      4. Found a back road route but that added hours.
      5. The latch broke on my "escape" window on the trailer. It was flapping. A little string and bungee cord works
But did make it to Lubbock and have full hook ups and going to catch up on shorts.

    • Heading West

      March 23, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 54 °F

Today I'm heading to California. I've begun the Motorcycle Grand Tour of Texas and stopped at six locations between Fort Worth, Abilene, and Lubbock. Along the back roads of Texas, I came across a llama grazing with some huge goats or perhaps sheep, and I stopped to briefly watch some horseback cowboys herding cattle. The winds were no less than 20 miles per hour all the way, so I'm pretty tired from the day and staying at a Kampground of America (KOA). Fortunately, I was able to get a cabin with heat because the temperature is supposed to drop below freezing tonight. I thought it was Spring 😭.

So long [for now], and thanks for all the fish! ✌️
