Heute ist das Wetter besser und das nutzen wir aus um uns den Mangolia Garden neben Drayton Hall uns anzuschauen.

“Die Plantage geht auf das Jahr 1676 zurück, als Thomas und Ann Drayton (geborene Anna Fox) ein Haus und einen kleinen formalen Garten auf dem Gelände errichteten. Die Plantage befindet sich auch nach 15 Generationen noch im Besitz der Familie Drayton.

Magnolia war ursprünglich eine Reisplantage mit ausgedehnten Erdwerken aus Dämmen und Deichen, die auf den Feldern entlang des Flusses zur Bewässerung des Reisanbaus errichtet wurde.”

Der Park wurde aber erst viel später angelegt. Die alten Bäume sind erhalten geblieben und sind voll von Louisianamoos (oder spanisches Moos).
Das lässt den ganzen Park sehr mystisch erscheinen. Die Weg zu erkunden ist traumhaft. Es gibt hier ungefähr 900 Kamelienarten, und verschiedene Palmen, und Bambus, und und und….

… und dann sehen wir unsere ersten frei lebenden Alligatoren. Zum Glück scheinen sie satt zu sein.Read more

Traveler Wir haben auch eine Magnolie im Garten. Die sieht aber ganz anders aus und es fehlen die Krokodile-Gott sei Dank.

Magnolia Plantation - for privileged

Magnolia Plantation, founded in 1676 by the Drayton family, is an impressive piece of land. A bit surprising was that the historical tour of the Plantation didn't really mention the slaves and the live at the plantation at the period when slavery was for family Drayton normal..
At the other hand, pretty brilliant was the idea of the owner to start offering tours around his property to pay of his employees in the modern time after the end of slavery. (my really. simplified point of view. definitely worth of visiting)

Magnóliová plantáž, založená v roku 1676 rodinou Draztonovcov, je veľmi obdivuhodný pozemok. Trochu prekvapujúce bolo, že skoro vôbec neboli otroci a to ako život na plantáži vyzeral počas vtedy keď otroctvo bolo pre rodinu Draztonovcov normálne.
Na druhej strene musím uznať že nápad posledného dediča vyberať za prehliadky plantáže vstupné a transformovať ho na plat svojim zamestnancom v modernej dobe bez otroctva je v celku kreatívny prístup k zmene. (moje veľmi zjednodušené zhrnutie. stojí za to navštíviť)Read more
