      Natick Mall & Cheesecake Factory

      October 17, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

The Natick Mall is a shopping mall in Natick, Massachusetts. The original facility was the first enclosed shopping mall in Greater Boston upon opening in 1966; it was demolished and replaced by a larger building in 1994 and expanded in 2007. The mall, with the adjacent Shopper's World power center in Framingham, are components of the Golden Triangle shopping district in the center of MetroWest, situated between Route 9 and Route 30. With 1,695,884 square feet (157,553 m2) of gross leasable area, it is the largest shopping complex in New England.
Und darin enthalten ist auch eine Cheesecake Factory, die wir uns nicht entgehen lassen.

      Oh dear

      May 5, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 61 °F

After traveling all day, and only eating breakfast at around 7 AM, The hotel restaurant was closed due to things just reopening after the pandemic, and there were no snacks available. 🤬

I found myself wandering through random parking lots in Natick, a suburb of Boston, looking for an open restaurant. I felt like I was in one of those Dateline shows and that they were going to find me in a ditch somewhere with only one shoe and an unidentifiable head wound.Read more

      Serenity in Wellesley Mass.

      August 1, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 61 °F

We arrived in Wellesley, MA yesterday after having a relaxing morning catching up with Aunt Jane who lives in the The Village, where we had brunch. Jane has lived in Greenwich Village for 25+ years (not to be confused with the East Village, both are the area between 14th and Houston in NYC but roughly divided by Broadway). The Village has not changed much from the days when I grew up in NY except that it used to be inexpensive to live here and not “the most desirable area” and now its unreachable by most with 1bedroom apartments starting at $2M. In the 50’s, rents for a 1 bedroom were about $50/month and now they start at $4,000 /month. That’s painful to write. We sat at a coffee shop on busy 6th avenue and enjoyed the City and talking about our trips.

Then we began the saga of renting a car in NYC (that took 2 hours) and then we (Karen) began driving to Wellesley (200 miles but over 5 hours). BUT we soon arrived at Serenity, Neal and Tina Moskow’s Lake (well, maybe it’s not “their” lake but they have a beautiful house we love to visit, on the lake). These photos are from the evening we arrived and the next day where we talked and laughed and enjoyed each other’s company as we hung out at the lake, went for a long walk, ate and drank a lot. Most people think of the Serenity prayer as the definition of serenity:

“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference”

Knowing how to maintain this state of mind is the goal. Serenity, tranquility, quietness, calmness, harmony, and peace comes from the absence of stress or anxiety. This lake always takes us to a place of peacefulness and showers us with a blanket of serenity.

Serenity & Peace are synonyms in Hebrew
Most people know the Hebrew word for peace – שָׁלוֹם (shalom). The word for tranquility or serenity is: שַׁלְוָה (shavah). Two of the three letters in each of the two roots are identical: ש and ל. And the third letters are pretty close.
May there be peace within your walls and tranquility within your palaces (Psalms 122:7).

THEN, we went to dinner at Lockheart in Wellesley. Fun time and we competed in a very challenging 5 rounds of trivia against 12 other teams of "cut-throat" players. In the end, WE WON!!!! The prize was not quite enough to buy a home for us ..but maybe a snack.

      Visiting CONNECTICUT Friends

      August 3, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 77 °F

Today was a day of visiting our favorite Danbury/Bethel/Redding CT friends (that are still living there). First after a 3 hour drive from Wellesley, we arrived at Michael’s. As always, seeing Michael is a day filled with laughter and wisdom. Although his MS limitations does not allow Michael to be as productive as he would like, he still keeps up on all the news and speaks out against what’s wrong in this world. Michael is always such a good listener and asked about our ATW trip, some of the most “unique” questions of anyone. We enjoyed catching up and seeing him in person. Michael is looking very good and going well as he continues to work at the Prospector and make a difference in our world and for many.

Then we went for a drink with Michele & Judson, old friends from Redding. They are also looking at places to settle and live so after catching up on family news, we compared our wishes and discoveries to date. It was great to see them and they look and sound healthy, happy and very busy as they are both still working by choice and enjoying life thoroughly. The Redding Roadhouse brought back memories of living in rural Redding CT for 27 years and commuting to NYC (when not traveling) and how often while so many things change, other things have stopped in time and look and feel the same.

We then got to spend a wonderful evening, dinner and overnight with Vanita & Howard. We have been friends for 25 years, with so many connections including work, Temple, school, our children, and our lives in Redding and traveling the world. As Howard is a United 757 Pilot and Vanita is a world traveler who often travels with him, we always share adventures of people and places around the world. We have caught up with them and Cooper (yes, their dog) as we hiked around Putnam Park and enjoyed a beautiful morning before we left for Delaware and the Crossing where George Washington has crossed a mere 247 years ago. The Delaware River is less than 300 yards wide (but it was winter and rough waters) at the point where the army crossed before the Battle of Trenton and famous for the Continental Army crossing and the first major military victory of the war for Independence. Maybe we can be inspired by GW’s determination and resiliency as we search for places to live.
