    May 18, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

The tour was interesting, these are some of the conference rooms where the UN delegates meet but what became very clear is the futility and frustration of much of the work done by members which is vetoed by any of the big five in New York.Read more

    May 27, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

Today we left Geneva and headed to Interlarken. We are staying high up the valley at Stechelberg. We did stop at Guere on the way, the home of the famous Swiss cheese. The village of Guyere sits high on a hill, has its own castle and is attacked daily by a mass of buses and tourists. We then drove to Interlarken and bought groceries and continued to Lauterbrunnen and finally found our quaint Swiss chalet high up in the valley. Its the oldest chalet - hotel over 110 years old. The weather was becoming overcast and cooler with rain forecast for tomorrow so we took the opportunity to walk along the fields wore out our cameras. Every corner you turn is a photo! The girls made a nice shepherds pie tonight. The Alpendorf B&B is where we stayed. The next day we walked through the Trummelbach cavern which are ten underground falls. 20,000 litres a second! Water from surrounding mountains supply this natural attraction.Read more

  • Split - Diocletians Palace and Trogir

    June 6, 2019 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Here is some photos of Diocletians Palace, originally a worship centre to the Roman God Jupiter then a Christian church testimony to the influence of Christian believers in the Roman world. The two black marble sphinx are from Egypt and date around 90AD. The ceiling of the baptistry has 64 depictions of every emotion known to man. A men's singing group from Dalmatia presented two items in the circular arena whose acoustics were stunning. We also went into the crypt and the main centre which was converted into Christian place of worship during the reign of Diocletian. In the afternoon we went to the tourist village of Trogir which has narrow alleyways, hundreds of market stalls, and as many restaurants all plying for trade. They wheel out barrows with various fish to entice would be customers.Read more

  • Mostar Bosnia

    June 7, 2019 in Bosnia and Herzegovina ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Today we drive from Split to Dubrovnic but decided to take a detour into Bosnia and visit the remarkable town of Mostar. This city was divided Moslem against Christians each living on their own side of the river that runs through the city. The bridge was bombed in the war and totally destroyed but rebuilt by the goodwill of each towards the other as a physical commitment to a shared future. People flock to this symbol of hope daily as we did also. The city still bears many signs of its destruction with buildings bombed and still not rebuilt.Read more

When I asked about the drop off (all supposed to be included in the price) I was informed they were a van down due to mechanical breakdown!!! Suffice to say we walked home afterwards up the streets and steps to our house feeling a bit short changed. But on the bright side the day was relaxed, sunny and the swim after a nice fish lunch was refreshing.Read more
