Temple of Heaven

We visited the Temple of Heaven. It's located inside a huge and amazing park. We also saw squirrels there!

The complex was visited by the Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for good harvest.

We saw the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, The Circular Mound Altar and the Palace of Abstinence.

The park is so well-maintained and you can get lost between these beautiful cypress trees. We saw also a lot of people playing with cards or just chilling.

Very quiet and nice place.Weiterlesen

Yonghe Temple

We went to the Yonghe Temple, also known as the Yonghe Lamasery, or popularly as the Lama Temple, a temple and monastery of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism located in Dongcheng District. The building and artwork of the temple is a combination of Han Chinese and Tibetan styles.

Inside there is a big 18 m tall White Sandalwood statue of the Maitreya Buddha. It's quite impressive to see it. Very nice.Weiterlesen

Hot Pot

We had lunch with the famous Hot Pot. Wee took some beef and mutton meat and vegetables (potatoes, mushrooms, lotus flower roots).

It's a common way to eat in china. You just order and then you boil in the water meat and vegetables. It's fun!Weiterlesen

Ping Pong Shop

Of course we couldn't resist two weeks without playing some table tennis.
So we found a ping pong shop. We bought some rubbers, a blade and some balls.

The owner was very friendly and let us play for almost an hour! He also offered us a tea.

Roasted Duck

Tess, a very nice girl we met and who speaks english really well, brought us
to a really good restaurant to let us try the famous Beijing Roasted Duck.

It was so delicious! It's a must-try food if you travel to Beijing. It's quite crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. A very professional chef cut the duck in front of our eyes.

It was one of the best dinner we had in China.Weiterlesen

Great Wall Hiking

We read on the internet about a really nice itinerary from Jiankou to Mutianyu, the wild part of the great wall.

We took a taxi from Beijing to the Xizhazi village (2 hours trip) and we started hiking in the woods. From the village we walked for about 1 hour to get to the top and finally see the Great Wall.

Our first goal was Zhengbei Watch Tower. But it was far away. At that moment we realized that our start point was wrong. But we decided to continue.

The path to arrive to Zhengbei Tower was really hard (REALLY!) and very dangerous. In some parts we needed to climb or to take shortcuts in the woods around the wall.

And we were just us. Nobody. Just us. Some rocks. And the Great Wall, that was falling apart.

Sometimes we also took wrong ways and we needed to come back to take the right path. So much adrenaline!!!

After 7 hours of hiking and climbing we finally arrived to Mutianyu, the restored part of the Great Wall and more touristic. We also find humans there! We were safe.

It was an absolutely crazy and amazing experience that we will remember for the rest of our lives.

The Great Wall of China is one of the 7 Wonders of the World. We think that is true.Weiterlesen

The Forbidden City

For the last day we visited the Forbidden City. We had to buy the ticket in advance to go there because only (ONLY?!) 80.000 tickets are sold for each day.

The Forbidden City was the former Chinese imperial palace from the Ming dynasty to the end of the Qing dynasty (the years 1420 to 1912). It served as the home of emperors and their households and was the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government for almost 500 years.

We took all the morning to visit it and it was very crowded. After that we went to the Jingshan park to admire the Forbidden City from the top. What a nice view and so much tranquility there.Weiterlesen

Tiananmen Square

We went to Tian'anmen Square. It is within the top ten largest city squares in the world and it has great cultural significance as it was the site of several important events in Chinese history. The square is also best known for the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests.Weiterlesen

The End

This is my last footprint. Our amazing travel comes to an end. At this point we go back to Italy very happy and with a lot of good thoughts about China and all the beautiful things we saw and the awesome experiences we had.

The places, the food, the people... will always remain in our hearts! :)

I wanted to thank our great friend Minghui that welcomed us and helped us a lot. Thanks to his family and his friends to be such friendly and generous with us.

Thanks to my travel friends: Gianluca and Agostino... you were really nice travelling companion.

It was a really nice trip and with this travel diary I hope to share some of my thoughts and experiences!
