  • We have arrived 🇳🇵

    Oct 4–8, 2025 in Nepal ⋅ 🌩️ 19 °C

After a couple of days travelling via Singapore, we’ve finally arrived in Nepal—straight into 18hours of non-stop rain. Most of Kathmandu is closed and the highways are blocked, so not much exploring yet. Thankfully, we had the sense to book a nice hotel, so at least we’re stuck somewhere comfortable while we wait for the weather to improve.Read more

  • Morning stroll and Budhanilkantha Temple

    October 5, 2025 in Nepal ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

This morning, we woke to clearing skies. Spent the morning walking to Budhanilkantha Temple, home to Nepal’s largest stone statue of Lord Vishnu. Reclining gracefully on a bed of snakes in the center of a pond, the five-meter-long granite figure was carved from a single rock and dates back to the Lichchhavi period.

After a leisurely walk over what locals affectionately call “Nepali flat” (read: uphill!), we’re now resting and looking forward to spending the afternoon by the pool, followed by a relaxing massage.

  • Relaxation and sunset 🌅

    October 5, 2025 in Nepal ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

While I melted into bliss with a relaxing massage, Adam was locked in a less glamorous battle—removing a tick from his leg 😳. We ended the day watching the sunset 🌅

  • Kathmandu Belly 🥴

    October 7, 2025 in Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Well, yesterday was not very eventful. We moved to Hotel Mulberry to begin day one of our tour, however, due to the snowstorm in Nepal, our welcome dinner was delayed until tonight. Luckily, it gave us the day to rest as Adam has a bout of Kathmandu belly and had to spend the day in bed (should have listened to his wife— I said not to brush teeth with tap water). Luckily, I travel with a full medicine cabinet . Today, all is better. We have a gear inspection this morning and then a tour of Nepal. This afternoon, we will shop for any additional gear we have to get.Read more

  • Kathmandu sites

    October 7, 2025 in Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Yesterday, we visited two heritage sites and had our welcome dinner. Luckily, Adam wasn’t feeling well and only ate a bit, while I only picked at my rice because the meal looked unappealing. Unfortunately, the two other people on our tour ended up with food poisoning and spent the night on the toilet. We head to Lukla today by helicopter and walk to Phakding, where we will spend our first night on the trek.Read more

  • Day 1 lukla to phakding

    October 8, 2025 in Nepal ⋅ 🌙 7 °C

Today, after a couple of hours’ wait by ourselves on the middle of an airport tarmac surrounded by helicopters and big planes (aviation safety 🤔), we departed for Lukla to begin our trek. We had an awesome helicopter flight; the scenery was spectacular. Our walk to Phakding was around 10km and wasn’t too strenuous. The scenery was amazing; so far, the weather hasn’t been too chilly. Staying at Everest Shangri-La, enjoying hot water and electricity, as further up the mountain there is neither.Read more

  • Day 2 Phakding to Namcha bazaar

    October 9, 2025 in Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

We made it! Today, we walked 12 kilometres with an elevation gain of 832 metres. We are currently at an altitude of 3440 metres. We crossed a couple of suspension bridges, including the Edmund Hillary suspension bridge. Despite the hard slog, we made good time. We’ll spend two days here in Namcha tomorrow. Tomorrow, we’ll do a climatisation hike and then spend the afternoon exploring the town.Read more

  • Day 3 Namcha Bazaar

    October 10, 2025 in Nepal ⋅ ☀️ 6 °C

Today we woke to beautiful blue skies. Today was our climatisation day. We walked up to the Everest View lookout, which was absolutely beautiful. We then did a hike 400 m up to the Everest View Hotel. We enjoyed a nice cup of tea up there before coming back via Sagarmatha Next project, this is a project where the waste that is generated by tourism in the region is collected and recycled into art. Once back in Namcha, Adam had a rest and spent the afternoon playing pool with our guides, and I did some shopping and had a foot massage.Read more

  • Getting into some serious mountains

    October 11, 2025 in Nepal ⋅ 🌙 4 °C

Just finished day 5 of the trek. We don’t get to EBC for another 7 days. We are doing a longer circuitous route via Gokyo Lakes and Cho La pass. Yesterday was brutal. Hiked 16km over 8 hours ( with many stops) gaining 800 metres in elevation. Nelle has a bad head cold and hit the wall so I ended up humping her backpack as well for about 3 hours up a massive mountain. We’re at about 4500 metres now and it is getting noticeably harder with physical exertion. We were in Dole yesterday and Machermo tonight. Those super human sherpas carry 40-50kg, it’s fu@king impressive. So are the views btwRead more

  • Day 7 - Gokyo Ri Peak

    October 14, 2025 in Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 1 °C

Adam headed out at 5 am to summit Gokyo Ri peak(5355m) this morning. Nelle stayed in bed resting, and went for a short hike later in the morning. It took about five hours to hike up and back from the village.
We have hired a chopper to go over Cho La Pass (which was supposed to be our next two days) as Nelle isn’t 100% with the flu and wouldn’t be able to make this section, which is pretty challenging(she has been a trooper, but it’s not worth risking her life). To compound this, we have been getting reports about the glacier we need to cross to get to the pass being unstable. Also, there have been some recent avalanches in the pass, so we bravely made the decision to hire a chopper.

  • Day 8 Flight from Gokyo to Lobuche

    October 15, 2025 in Nepal ⋅ ☀️ -1 °C

Today we flew to Lobuche via the route we were supposed to walk— we flew over Ngozumpa Glacier, one of the largest glaciers in the Himalayas, and Cho La pass. We arrived in Lobuche with time to kill, so we did a short hike up to view the Khumbu Glacier.
Due to the snowstorm in the region last week, the whole area is covered in snow, including the pass, which is one of the other reasons we decided to fly to Lobuche. The views all around are magical.
Tomorrow we hike to Gorakshep and then EBC.

  • Day 9 Lobuche to Everest Base Camp via G

    Oct 16–17, 2025 in Nepal ⋅ ☀️ -6 °C

Today, we hiked over 12km to EBC (5364m) via Gorekshep. We had lunch there and continued on to EBC before returning to Gorekshep for the night. Our plan is to hike up Kala Patthar and watch the sunrise over Mt Everest. It’s going to be chilly, with a predicted temperature of -13 degrees 🥶. I’m so proud of both of us!Read more

  • Day 10 Kala Pattar and hike to Dingboche

    October 17, 2025 in Nepal ⋅ ❄️ -16 °C

Today we rose at 5 am to trek up Kala Pattar to watch the sunrise. We only went up 1/4 of the way and stayed for less than half an hour as we were all starting to get hypothermia as it was -13 degrees. After breakfast, we trekked 18km to our final destination, Dingboche.Read more
