    Deltona - Karl's Bed&Breakfast

    Picked them up at the airport and we drove to Red Robin Gourmet Burger and Brews for dinner. Special about Red Robin, they refill the sides until you explode. We shared three different sides to our main menus and actually ate till we couldn't fit in anything in, not even dessert. Bad concept in my opinion. 😅 We then drove to Karl's house and talked till we passed out.

    Ich holte sie vom Flughafen ab und wir fuhren zu Red Robin Gourmet Burger and Brews zum Abendessen. Das Besondere an Red Robin ist, dass sie die Beilagen auffüllen, bis man explodiert. Wir teilten uns drei verschiedene Beilagen zu unseren Hauptmenüs und aßen, bis wir nichts mehr reinbekamen, nicht einmal ein Dessert. Schlechtes Konzept, meiner Meinung nach. 😅 Wir sind dann zu Karls Haus gefahren und haben geredet, bis wir einschliefen.    Lue lisää

    Apollo Beach Canaveral National Seashore

    First day in Deltona. I had a slow morning and was ready to just lay in bed all day 😅 Karl was in need to see his Atlantic ocean after months in Germany, so they convinced me to at least drive to the beach. And so I finally got my feet on some beach sand and into ocean water in a beautiful national park.
    After the beach time we drove to the River Deck Tiki Bar & Restaurant in New Smyrna Beach for dinner.

    Erster Tag in Deltona. Ich hatte einen ruhigen Morgen und war bereit, den ganzen Tag nur im Bett zu liegen 😅 Karl wollte nach Monaten in Deutschland unbedingt seinen Atlantik sehen, also überredeten sie mich, wenigstens an den Strand zu fahren. Und so konnte ich in einem wunderschönen Nationalpark endlich meine Füße in den Sand und ins Meer stecken.
    Nach dem Strandaufenthalt fuhren wir zum Abendessen in die River Deck Tiki Bar & Restaurant in New Smyrna Beach.    Lue lisää

    Disney Boardwalk & Springs

    After a quiet morning we took our time and drove to Orlando to Disney World in the late afternoon. By car we went to Disney Boardwalk. This is an unimaginably large hotel complex with pool landscape and everything that goes with it. We got on a boat and watched the whole thing from the water for a short while. Then we took the cable car through and over the Disney World area at night. At one station we transferred to the bus and went to Disney Springs. It resembles a huge open air mall. Stores and restaurants as far as the eye can see. And people everywhere. Live music is played at some places and we lingered to listen and watch the people around us. By bus we went back to the parking lot and then by car home.

    Nach einem ruhigen Vormittag haben wir uns viel Zeit gelassen und sind am späten Nachmittag nach Orlando zu Disney World gefahren. Mit dem Auto ging es zu Disney Boardwalk. Das ist eine unvorstellbar große Hotelanlage mit Pool-Landschaft und allem was dazugehört. Wir sind dann in ein Boot gestiegen und haben uns das ganze für ein kurzes Stück vom Wasser aus angeguckt. Dann ging es mit der Seilbahn durch und über das nächtliche Disney World Gelände. An einer Station sind wir auf den Bus umgestiegen und nach Disney Springs gefahren. Es gleicht einer riesigen Freiluft Mall. Geschäfte und Restaurants soweit das Auge reicht. Und überall Menschen. An einigen Stellen wird Live-Musik gespielt und wir verweilen an einigen Stellen und lauschen und beobachten die Menschen um uns rum. Mit dem Bus ging es zurück zum Parkplatz und dann mit dem Auto nach Hause.    Lue lisää

    Kennedy Space Center

    Today we left Deltona to drive to friends from Karl for dinner. Karl is known globally for his famous turkey. The recipe is secret, so I can't tell you, but believe me it is extremely yummy. A must eat when you're in Deltona around Thanksgiving! On our way there we stopped at the Kennedy Space Visitor Center. It's a huge NASA theme park. At the entrance is the "Rocket Garden" with some models of the old rockets and the stories about them on info boards. Inside the buildings are different kind of child friendly activities and museums, many different restaurants, and my highlight a shuttle launch simulation. We felt the G's!

    Heute verließen wir Deltona, um zu Freunden von Karl zum Abendessen zu fahren. Karl ist weltweit für seinen berühmten Truthahn bekannt. Das Rezept ist geheim, deshalb kann ich es euch nicht verraten, aber glaubt mir, es ist extrem lecker. Ein Muss, wenn man um Thanksgiving in Deltona ist! Auf dem Weg dorthin hielten wir am Kennedy Space Visitor Center. Das ist ein riesiger NASA-Themenpark. Am Eingang befindet sich der "Rocket Garden" mit einigen Modellen der alten Raketen und den Geschichten über sie auf Infotafeln. Im Inneren der Gebäude gibt es verschiedene kinderfreundliche Aktivitäten und Museen, viele verschiedene Restaurants und als Highlight eine Shuttle-Start-Simulation. Wir haben die G's gespürt!     The Inn at Boynton Beach

    28.–29. lokak. 2023, Yhdysvallat

    We slept the night in this hotel. I have no pictures and you miss nothing. It was nearby Karl's friends and we just slept there and met Karl's friends the next day early in the morning for a boat trip. The corridor reeked of everything the human body can emit. The worst was a fire alarm at around 4 AM in the morning, which was not caused by fire, but woke all of us up and didn't let us sleep for at least 15 minutes. I'd say the worst night of the trip, but we got some sleep and that's something.

    Wir haben die Nacht in diesem Hotel verbracht. Ich habe keine Bilder und ihr verpasst nichts. Es war in der Nähe von Karls Freunden und wir schliefen einfach dort und trafen Karls Freunde am nächsten Tag frühmorgens zu einer Bootsfahrt. Der Korridor stank nach allem, was der menschliche Körper ausstoßen kann. Das Schlimmste war ein Feueralarm um ca. 4 Uhr morgens, der zwar nicht durch ein Feuer verursacht wurde, uns aber alle aufweckte und uns mindestens 15 Minuten lang nicht schlafen ließ. Ich würde sagen, das war die schlimmste Nacht der Reise, aber wir haben etwas Schlaf bekommen, und das ist immerhin etwas.    Lue lisää

    Boat trip Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway

    We met with Karl's friends at the marina. They reserved a boat for us for a short trip on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. We drove to the Kona Bay Cafe for breakfast and back to the marina. We had awesome weather, a beautiful view on all the fancy houses and boats. The breakfast was really good. The tide was height for our days in south Florida, so all the next days we had high water everywhere. So here too when we tried to get back on the boat the parking lot next to the cafe was flooded.

    Wir trafen uns mit Karls Freunden am Yachthafen. Sie hatten für uns ein Boot für eine kurze Fahrt auf dem Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway reserviert. Wir fuhren zum Kona Bay Cafe zum Frühstück und zurück zum Yachthafen. Wir hatten herrliches Wetter und einen schönen Blick auf all die schicken Häuser und Boote. Das Frühstück war wirklich gut. Die Flut war für unsere Tage in Südflorida sehr hoch, so dass wir die nächsten Tage überall Hochwasser hatten. So auch hier, als wir versuchten, wieder auf das Boot zu kommen, war der Parkplatz neben dem Café überflutet.    Lue lisää

    NFL NewEngland Patriots @ Miami Dolphins

    After the boat trip we rushed to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami to finish the next sports must see on my to do list: NFL! This was the sports event I was most excited for, sadly we have been a little late. The traffic around the stadium was crazy! If you look at the stadium on Google Maps you should think there are enough parking lots, but NOPE! Everyone was looking for a place to park. The residents around the stadium trying to sell their yards for $50 or more. We tried to get on one of the official parking lots, but the security guy told us to drive to the next Wal Mart and park there. We ended up on the parking lot from Subway for $40. Unfortunately, we missed the run-in, the national anthem, and the kick-off, but the game and the atmosphere was amazing. It is so different to German soccer games. The dolphins won the game! And I can still dance to the lyrics of the "Fins to the left / Fins to the right" song.

    Nach der Bootsfahrt eilten wir zum Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, um das nächste Sport-Muss auf meiner To-Do-Liste abzuschließen: NFL! Das war das Sportereignis, auf das ich mich am meisten gefreut habe, leider waren wir ein bisschen spät dran. Der Verkehr rund um das Stadion war verrückt! Wenn man sich das Stadion auf Google Maps ansieht, sollte man meinen, dass es genügend Parkplätze gibt, aber NOPE! Jeder war auf der Suche nach einem Platz zum Parken. Die Anwohner rund um das Stadion versuchten, ihre Höfe für 50 Dollar oder mehr zu verkaufen. Wir versuchten, auf einen der offiziellen Parkplätze zu kommen, aber der Sicherheitsbeamte sagte uns, wir sollten zum nächsten Wal Mart fahren und dort parken. So landeten wir auf dem Parkplatz von Subway für 40 Dollar. Leider haben wir den Einlauf, die Nationalhymne und den Anpfiff verpasst, aber das Spiel und die Atmosphäre waren toll. Es ist so anders als bei deutschen Fußballspielen. Die Dolphins haben das Spiel gewonnen! Und ich kann immer noch zu dem Text des Liedes "Fins to the left / Fins to the right" tanzen.    Lue lisää

    James Hotel Miami

    After the game, we drove to Miami Beach. There we checked into the beautiful James Hotel and then took a walk through the Lincoln Road pedestrian zone. We ate at Bella Kuba - delicious!

    Nach dem Spiel sind wir nach Miami Beach gefahren. Dort haben wir im wunderschönen James Hotel eingecheckt und danach einen Spaziergang durch die Fußgängerzone der Lincoln Road gemacht. Gegessen haben wir im Bella Kuba - lecker!Lue lisää

    Kayak Tour @ Flamingo Marina

    After wakeup we drove to the Flamingo Marina in the Everglades. We reserved a Kayak for a 4 hour boat trip. It was on the bucket list from my mom. The moment we left the car we got attacked by mosquitos and were stinged 20 times in the first minute. Bug spray for the rescue! After signing a waiver, that nobody can sue the marina in case we get eaten by a crocodile we got in our kayak and drove down the man made channel through the Florida heat around noon. Crazy! We saw two crocodiles, many birds and a beautiful nature. We ended the trip a little early, due to the heat. But we enjoyed it a lot.     Nach dem Aufwachen fuhren wir zur Flamingo Marina in den Everglades. Wir haben ein Kajak für eine 4-stündige Bootstour reserviert. Das stand auf der Bucket List von meiner Mutter. Kaum hatten wir das Auto verlassen, wurden wir von Moskitos angegriffen und in der ersten Minute 20 Mal gestochen. Insektenspray zur Rettung! Nachdem wir eine Verzichtserklärung unterschrieben hatten, dass niemand den Yachthafen verklagen kann, falls wir von einem Krokodil gefressen werden, stiegen wir in unser Kajak und fuhren gegen Mittag durch die Hitze Floridas den künstlichen Kanal hinunter. Verrückt! Wir sahen zwei Krokodile, viele Vögel und eine wunderschöne Natur. Wegen der Hitze beendeten wir die Fahrt etwas früher. Aber wir haben es sehr genossen.     Pa-Hay-Okee Lookout Tower

    The Pa-Hay-Okee Lookout Tower is a raised observation platform. The short boardwalk loop provides an awesome view over the everglades grass lands and it's wildlife. We saw no crocodiles here, but many fishes and birds.

    Der Pa-Hay-Okee Lookout Tower ist eine erhöhte Aussichtsplattform. Der kurze Rundweg bietet einen herrlichen Blick über die Grasflächen der Everglades und ihre Tierwelt. Wir haben hier keine Krokodile gesehen, aber viele Fische und Vögel.    Lue lisää

    Royal Palm Visitor Center &Anhinga Trail

    If you have just one hour in the Everglades, this is a great place to stop. Ranger-led walks and talks are conducted here. The visitor center here includes a small bookstore, restrooms and vending machines. The Gumbo Limbo trail through the forest is not that interesting, but the Anhinga trail next to the pit is fantastic. We saw crocodiles, turtles, fish, birds, and the beautiful everglades nature.

    Wenn Sie nur eine Stunde Zeit in den Everglades haben, ist dies ein guter Ort für einen Zwischenstopp. Hier werden von Rangern geführte Wanderungen und Vorträge angeboten. Im Besucherzentrum gibt es einen kleinen Buchladen, Toiletten und Verkaufsautomaten. Der Gumbo-Limbo-Weg durch den Wald ist nicht besonders interessant, aber der Anhinga-Weg neben der Grube ist fantastisch. Wir haben Krokodile, Schildkröten, Fische, Vögel und die wunderschöne Natur der Everglades gesehen.    Lue lisää

    Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center

    On our way out of the everglades we stopped at the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center, which is located at the entrance of the national park. It offers educational displays, orientation films, and informational brochures.

    Creekside Inn Islamorada

    30.–31. lokak. 2023, Yhdysvallat

    On our way to the hotel Karl decided that I need to have one real BBQ steak. He called the hotel and asked if they do have a grill. They do have 2 gas grills outside at there marina with tables and everything we need. So all we had to get was food. We stopped at some supermarkets and got steak, sausages, salads and dips. Once we reached the hotel Karl made us an awesome dinner. I'm not a steak person, but this was the best steak I ever ate and I had a lot of it that evening!

    Auf dem Weg zum Hotel beschloss Karl, dass ich ein richtiges BBQ-Steak essen sollte. Er rief im Hotel an und fragte, ob sie einen Grill hätten. Sie haben 2 Gasgrills draußen am Yachthafen mit Tischen und allem, was wir brauchen. Also mussten wir nur noch Lebensmittel besorgen. Wir hielten an einigen Supermärkten und kauften Steak, Würstchen, Salate und Dips. Als wir im Hotel ankamen, kochte uns Karl ein fantastisches Abendessen. Ich bin eigentlich kein Steak-Fan, aber das war das beste Steak, das ich je gegessen habe, und ich habe an diesem Abend eine Menge davon gegessen!    Lue lisää
