Camping in the desert under Sacramento Mountains in Dog Canyon. It's very scenic, because they rise 9,700 feet above our camper, and there is a great view out every window.

They have to plow the road to clear the gypsum sand. Some people were sledding on the dunes. They go for about 8 miles.

Alpine type area, one of my favorites.
We sat on a log for lunch.
The road here was quite narrow, so lots of pulling over.

The bench we sat on was 4022 feet up, and we probably hiked up another 2000 feet, 2 miles of trail. The mile markers were in 1/4 mile increments since it was so steep and sometimes it was hard to figure out which rocks were the trail. It's hard to see in the photos the cliffs and the steep grade. There were times when my comfort level was just about maxed out when the trail was on the cliff edge. Of course the views were awesome. I marked our trailer in one of the photos. And where we hiked to on one.

Saw lava field on the way.

$7.50 a night to camp above the lake with electric and water hook up. So quiet here, only 6 campers counting us. It was totally quiet at the last site, but even more quiet here.
We heard coyotes carrying on in the middle of the night. and saw one prancing through our site this morning. We watched a crane catch a pink/orange fish.
We are in the middle of nowhere.Leggi altro

We saw a little snow on a couple of the high mountains.

Amazing and beautiful. Put on your bucket list! Make sure to do Crystal Forest trail and also walk the foot trail when going around Blue Mesa.
