Saturday- Great day in Sonoma. Started by grabbing great lemon scones from Wild Flour Bakery. Nina Sitzer set us up at Repris, which is owned by her brother. Beautiful views up on the mountain. We had wine and a great charcuterie plate with some Spanish stew. Then into Sonoma to walk around the square for a couple hours. Cute town with good restaurants and shopping. On to learn to make cheese with Sheana Davis, and her husband Ben, at Epicurian Connections. One of the best cooking classes we have taken. Very fun and a great pace.Leggi altro

Sunday - Very quiet day. Weather was great so Michael spent some time soaking up sun on the deck. We cooked a great meal including wonderful smoked pork chops.

Monday- Biked the west county bike trail to Graton. Went Lazzinis Market for Italian sandwich. Visited St Anne’s Crossing Winery. Price point is outstanding. Ended the evening at Rocker Oysterfeller’s in Valley Ford. Half price oysters on Monday night.Leggi altro

Tuesday- We drove over to Bodega Head park and did a beautiful hike along the coast. Spectacular views and lots of wild flowers. Drove through Bodega and Bodega Bay, which is where Alfred Hitchcock filmed The Birds. Stopped for lunch at The Birds Cafe for clam chowder. Dinner was pick up from King Falafel, which was jus OK despite the great reviews. We watch The Birds on Hulu. I had never seen it before.Leggi altro

Walk and Wilson Wineries

Wednesday- we started our day with a nice hike through Riverfront Regional Park outside of Healdsburg. Hike was nice but the view payoffs weren’t great. We then headed to two of the Wilson Wineries, Wilson and Mazzoco. We took a picnic with us, including the cheese we made on Saturday. Wilson was our least favorite. Felt hurried and poured only the tasting list. Being members at Wilson has really paid off with free tastings at both. We cooked dinner at home. Marinated hanger steak tacos were delicious.Leggi altro

Thursday- today we went to two of the wineries we visited 25 years ago, on our first visit to Sonoma County. The first is A Rafenelli. This is appointment only and continues to be very small production, limiting purchases to one bottle of each. Tasting was overpriced at $55 since the only poured 3 wines. We then went to Dry Creek and sat outside on a beautiful day and drank lots. Stopped for dinner in Santa Rosa at Grossman’s. Food was good but terrible service.Leggi altro

Friday - Went on a long uphill both ways hike at Shiloh Ranch Regional Park. Both of us checked off more than 14k steps and heart rate was elevated. Saw Turkey at a distance, a deer up close, and lots of lizards. Checked out another of the Wilson Wineries this time delorimier on the east side in the Alexander valley. After that we both wanted pizza and beer so off to the Barlow. Acre pizza and Crooked Goat brewing. Ice cream at Screaming Mimi’s again Long day, my foot was really tired and sore.Leggi altro

Ferry to San Fran

Sunday - Took the Larkspur ferry across the bay to San Fran. It was really a tourist day as we ate at Tom Wo in China Town, great cheap food, then took the streetcar to the Wharf. Walked over to Ghirardelli Square, saw the sea lions, walked over Fisherman’s Wharf and pier 39 the off to Hog Island Oyster Co for a couple of beers and oysters. On the ferry we saw San Quentin, Alcatraz, and all 3 bridges. Also saw whales and dolphins from a distance.Leggi altro

Monday - took a drive to Point Reyes National Seashore. Continue to be so surprised at how rural this area is. Milk cows are in farms immediately adjacent to the shoreline. View not as pretty as Bodega Head, but well worth the drive. Picked up clams for tomorrow at Tomales Bay Oyster Company. This is the shell fish farming facility near Marshall. Went to Rivers End for dinner again. My fish and chips were great. Michael had lamb that was good but a bit overcooked.Leggi altro
