  • Perlubie Beach Day Two

    March 16, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

More fishing and swimming, what else could you want.

Lachlan got a double hook up on the whiting, go Lachie 👍. He was not able to fish any more after that catch, as his arms were to sore 😂.

Uncle Shaun caught a Shovel Nose Ray with his bare hands.

We are planning a big cook up for lunch tomorrow on Lachlan’s birthday 🥳.

  • Happy 8th Birthday Lachlan

    March 17, 2021 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

At the end of the day, Lachlan said “I don’t think I have sat down all day”.

He had a great day celebrating his 8th birthday at Perlubie Beach. It started off with opening a few presents and a pancake bar. Then we packed up the tinny and headed over to the island across the beach from our camp for the afternoon.

Lachlan packed his car boat and snorkel, he explored the island and swam the afternoon away. He then went out and was a spotter when dad and Clay went down to get razor clams. He is very keen to have a go at diving down and collecting the razor clams himself.

We headed back to the caravan for the party food and games. We played pass the parcel, had a piñata, jumping sack races and played Molkky before cutting the cake and finishing the night off with some sparklers. We were all pooped.

We all snuggled up in bed together and watched a movie, the best way to finish off a night.

Not many kids get to spend a birthday camped on the beach. We were also pretty nice and gave him the day off school, something that would not normally happen back home.

    March 18, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

I just don’t know how we are going to leave this place.

Whiting, crabs, razor fish and squid every day. We have not had to use any meat from the esky yet!

Plus the shell collecting here is pretty good too.Read more

    March 20, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

    What a day!

Brett, Shaun and Clay went out in the boat and came back with whiting, squid, crab and cuttlefish!

Us girls and kids spent the day in the water, it was so hot and the water was just so inviting today.

The sky put on a show tonight, we had an amazing sunny day, then the storm clouds rolled in, but we still did not miss out on the sunset.

    24 whiting

    2 cuttlefish

    10 squid

    6 crabs

    The esky is full!

And after all that fishing they still had enough energy to fit in a scurf with the kids.Read more

  • Penong and Port LeHunte Jetty

    March 25, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

On the move towards the Nullarbor, first stop Penong.

We visited the windmill museum which has windmills from farms all over Australia, including Australia’s biggest windmill ‘Bruce’.

Then we headed out to the surf break Cactus. Brett has been waiting a long time to camp out here and surf this break.

On the way out to Cactus is Lake MacDonnell a PINK lake (yeay, it was pink this time). The photos of the lake remind me of Neapolitan ice cream.

The jetty near Cactus Beach, Port LeHunte Jetty was beautiful, we spent the afternoon there out of the wind.

  • Cactus Beach

    March 27, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Brett got up and got his first surf at Cactus Beach! I think we may be staying here longer than we first planned 😂😂

They boys and I strolled along the beach collecting shells and some cool bits of washed up coral. I found the best shell yet 😍.

It was hair cut day! After not being able to get haircuts in town, Brett decided he would cut the boys hair, and he did a pretty good job too.

    Surfs up kids!

The kids had a ball catching waves at Cactus today.

They have made some friends who also surf and are camped just across from us so they are very happy little campers.

The March flies here are killer, but these little lizards love them. We spent ages watching this little guy catch and eat the March flies at our camp today.Read more

  • Cactus Beach

    March 31, 2021 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

Everyone was tired today, lots of surfing being done by all the boys.

Brett got up early and surfed Caves, so I headed there with my camera. Although, that will be the last time I get my camera out at Caves, as I have been warned the locals don’t like people taking photos and have been know to smash cameras 😔.

After breakfast Brax and Lachie hit up Cactus Beach with their new mates for a surf sesh. So I was on camera duties again!

Brax was ecstatic with his waves, this is the first time he has really gone out in some big waves. They were “double over headers” as Brax was calling them. Brax even paddled on and caught the wave of the day himself! Go Braxy!!!

Lachlan caught some rippers, but is a little tedious due to the reef below.

  • Cactus Beach

    April 2, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

It was a scorcher today and what better way to cool off then some jetty jumping fun. We headed to Port LeHunte with the kids new friends another travelling family (Saltwater Ratbags) and spent the arvo there cooling off. Brax was shown up by their 3yr old daughter Ocean who jumped off the jetty before he did 😂😂.

The kids are loving it here, at dinner Lachlan asked if we could stay here longer and Brax asked if next year we could come here for a month. Brett was pretty pleased at this suggestion, as he is surfing twice a day and refers to this as his ‘Bali Holiday’.

Whilst out exploring the rock pools today we found some more colourful starfish and the hot weather brought out some other interesting creatures for us to look at today as well. We watched a shingle back lizard eat berries, but the boys were most intrigued by the scorpion. Our neighbour Sam is very insightful and provided the boys with some information about scorpions.

The excitement is real today! One more sleep until the Easter Bunny comes 😁!!! The kids could barely contain themselves, they made the Easter Bunny pictures and left out treats. Lachlan even made a small book, it was very cute.

Not many waves for Brett today, but the boys got some more good ones.

Sunset drinks then a movie with Saltwater Ratbags, the kids are having a ball here they don’t want to leave!

Yeay the Easter Bunny still visited us even though we are in the middle of nowhere. The kids were very relieved and woke up numerous times during the night to check he had been! (🤪)

  • Cactus Beach - Cactus Crew

    April 5, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Our time at Cactus has come to an end, much to everyone’s disappointment, but we have to move on at some point, lots of other beautiful places waiting for us.

We had a pizza and movie night with Howie, Kelly, Ben, Amy and all the kids last night. After another afternoon of jetty jumping. The kids wanted one last swim at the jetty together before we left, how can we say no to that. The jetty jumping turned into pontoon wrestling, which was very entertaining for the parents 😂😂.

Everyone can’t wait to come back here next year.

  • Jobs day!

    April 8, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

There is that day we all dread, the jobs day! Where we have to get what feels like a million things done, when we would rather be laying on a beach or site seeing and that day was today.

As we spent a considerable amount of time at Cactus Beach and then crossed the Nullarbor, our cupboards were very bare, so we had to hit the shops.

    Super Cheap ✅
    Repco ✅
    Bunnings✅
Khub ( a very small Kmart) ✅ Brett needed new undies 🩲
    Surf shop ✅
    Butcher ✅
    Woolworths ✅
    Laundry Mat ✅

Next stop we need to empty the toilet and fill the water tanks!

Luckily, we have great kids and today they we very well behaved and only asked for about 20 things each at the shops 😂😂.

Total for the day comes in at about $1250 🤪, eeek bit over budget this week!!!

Jobs day is exhausting, so we treated ourselves to dinner, it has been a while since we have been out (first time this trip I think) and what’s another $70 after we already spent so much today 😂😂.

  • Esperance

    April 9, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

A flying visit around Esperance this morning. Unfortunately, the weather was not great today and is not predicted to get much better this week, so we did not get to see the beaches at their best, luckily for us we are coming back next year, so hopefully we have better luck then.

Katrina recommended we do the Ocean Drive and see Twilight Beach and I can see why, it was beautiful, even on a cloudy day.

The kids were dying to try out the Adventure park with Lyla, so after a stop there we were on the road again.

  • Albany

    April 10, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

There is meant to be some bad weather coming due to a cyclone, so we tried to pack in Albany’s outside activities today.

Brett found a funky ‘snake’ skate park that he and the kids wanted to hit up so that was the first stop.

Then Kat discovered some chainsaw sculptures. We went to check these out not knowing what to expect, but they were amazing, the detail the artist got with the chainsaw was impeccable. He had the sculptures all through his property. The kids were amazed and were pointing out all the different animals, houses, people and cars just to name a few.

When we got to the Gap and Natural Bridge Brax was a bit scared to go out on the lookout, but Uncle Shaun was there to give him a helping hand.

  • Albany - Historic Whaling Station

    April 11, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

The Historic Whaling Station at Albany was jam packed with history and things to see and do.

The kids were very excited to be visiting the center and counted down the hours until 9am when it opened.

It was the last operating Whaling Station in Australia and is very well preserved. We watched some whaling history movies in the old oil tankers, explored a whaling ship, saw some massive whale skeletons and the kids learnt all about our whaling history.

  • Gloucester Tree - Pemberton

    April 15, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

We did it, we (Lachie, Brett and I) climbed the Gloucester Tree, a 58 metre tall tree which was used as a fire look out in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
Once we climbed the 153 metal rods that were attached to the tree there was a wonderful 360 degree view of the Karri Forrest below.

It was extremely nerve wrecking and the whole time I was worried about Lachlan, and the whole time Lachlan did not seem worried or scared at all, in fact he would not stop talking!

Brax climbed up 10 rungs one more than his age, which is a great effort as he is very scared of heights, then he had the important job of being the photographer.

  • Margaret River

    April 16, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

What a fun day, while Brett was out surfing at Margaret River this morning we had a Donkey visit the caravan. The kids thought this was fantastic ( so did I).

Then it was off exploring, first stop was for the grown ups, Red Gate winery. The boys were very well behaved and were extra helpful with Byron and Lyla as they knew there was a Lolly shop in town.

After another surf for Brett and a boogie board for the kids at Red Gate beach it was off to Cow Town, ( Cowaramup) to hit up Cow Candy and Miller’s Ice Creamery, YUM.

  • Margaret River Day 2

    April 17, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

    Another winner day!

Winery number 2 was Howard Park. Great research by Kat meant I was treated to a delicious moscato 🤗. I ended up buying a whole case (12) 🤫.

Injidup Natural Spa was sooooo much fun. We all had a ball getting in these pools and getting pummelled by the waves and then getting the jacuzzi after affects of the bubbles. Both the boys even got in, I see them getting braver and trying so many different activities on this trip that they would not do at home. I love how much more adventurous they are becoming.

Then of course we had to stop of at Margaret River Dairy company to get some cheese to make our cheese platter to go with our wines for dinner tonight. Kat then went above and beyond at IGA getting some extras to go with the cheese. It was an amazing spread with awesome company, I am loving my time in Margaret River.
