Day 1: Travel from Atlanta to Lima

    March 16 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 50 °F

We were dropped off at the airport by our neighbor, Sharad, early enough to accommodate TSA slowdown and bad weather day. Long story short after long wait for lounge access and 3 flight delays and a cancellation, we managed to get on an overnight LATAM flight and reach here early hours of the morning with little sleep. Final straw was our luggage from Delta did not get moved to the LATAM flight.
Somewhere in there managed a few cocktails and good food at the Centurion lounge.

  • Day 2: Lima city center and gastronomic

    March 17 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 79 °F

Landed at 5:15 am only to find that our check in bags did not make it. After filing the necessary paperwork on missing bags, we were transported to the hotel and told the city tour was leaving at 9 am. Managed to have breakfast and join the tour. Lima is an amazing city. After the tour, we went to the mall next door and picked up essentials to tide over next few days as we await bags and had a nice lunch overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The local beer, Piso Sour and Ceviche were outstanding at La Bonbonniere at the Lamarco mall. Dinner was at Punto Azul, a popular local favorite. Excellent food and the fish was very fresh and flavorful. Given early morning departure to fly to Cusco and sleep deprivation from prior overnight flight, we wrapped up soon after dinner.Read more

  • Day 6: Cusco city experience

    March 21 in Peru ⋅ ☁️ 48 °F

Woke up at hotel Augusto Cusco and had breakfast at the hotel. Amazingly none of us had any symptoms of altitude sickness. We had a city tour at 2 pm with our tour operator which left the morning open. So, we talked to the front desk and she arranged a taxi that would take us to the following archeological sites in addition to the statue of Christ in white high on top overlooking the whole town.
    1. Saqsaywaman
    2. Qenga
    3. Puca Picard
    4.Tambomachay

After this impromptu tour, we went to Green Point, a Vegan restaurant and it was all set in a natural garden. The food, ambience and overall experience was heavenly. However we were running late and had to rush somewhat to meet our tour operating the square.
The tour operator took us to a magnificent Basilica Catedral and Qorikancha, a Santo Domingo convent.
We got back to the hotel after and chilled with some cocktails and skipped dinner altogether.

    March 22 in Peru ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

Our shuttle from the hotel to CUZ airport was scheduled at 8 am for a 11 am flight on JetSmart. We had an early breakfast at 7 am. The Sharma’s were on a flight an hour later. They The whole process was seamless and we were at the airport long before the scheduled flight time. We all grabbed a coffee and then proceeded to board our respective flights. Even though we were on different flights we both arrived at the hotel, Ibis MiraFlores around the same time.
After check in we dropped our bags in the room and proceeded to find a place for lunch. We walked around the corner and found an amazing Italian restaurant named La Bodega Trattoria. After lunch Manisha and Lata went to the Inka Market while Suresh and I headed back to the hotel. Meanwhile we booked a panoramic bus tour of the city ending with a visit to the Water Magic show circuit in the park, and this was outstanding. It is a large screen using the water fountains to highlight Peru and its history with amazing background music. After that we returned to the hotel and called it a night due to exhaustion.

  • Day 8: Lima by Day and Overnight to ATL

    March 23 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 77 °F

This was our final day of the trip and we were on our own with an airport shuttle pick up scheduled for 7 pm. While checkout was 12 noon, we managed to pay $30 and extend checkout to 6 pm and as a result kept our bags and also got ready for the overnight flight.
After breakfast at the hotel, we used the day to visit the Inka Plaza for souvenirs shopping. The gals had already checked out the Inka Market the day before, so we decided to try the plaza. After shopping we dropped off things at the hotel and went to the Larco Museum. Highly recommend the museum to enjoy pre-Inca and Inca culture. Post museum, we ended up eating at the museum restaurant which is to die for. Exquisite ambience and great cuisine.
We returned to the hotel, got ready and boarded the shuttle to the airport. The ride was 3 hours long due to gasoline shortage in Peru. Also, when we got to the airport, we were delayed and shortchanged in that none of the lounges were accessible or open. Bad ending but we made it home okay and our friend promptly picked us up.
    And….that’s a wrap to Peru.
