    Auf Santo Antao

    Am neunten Tag der Überfahrt schälten sich nach und nach Umrisse der Insel Santo Antao aus dem Dunst der Wolken. Wir folgten nun einige Meilen der Steilküste und passierten ein kleines Fischerdorf. Nur wenige Meter vom Fischerdorf lugte plötzlich eine Finne eines Haies aus dem Wasser. Er maß mindestens 3 bis 4m. Ansonsten sahen wir vor allem diverse Vögel.
    Gegen Nachmittag erreichten wir Tarrafal und warfen den Anker aus. Nach einer kurzen Bade-Session schwammen wir an Land, um uns das Dorf anzusehen und ein Bier zu trinken. Tarrafal liegt in einem langen Tal und sticht durch seine Grünheit aus der sonst so trockenen und felsigen Westküste von Santo Antao. Das Dorf war quasi eine große Baustelle, fast jedes zweite Haus war noch im Rohbau und überall standen Betonmischer herum.
    Die Tage in Tarrafal verbrachten wir mit Vorbereitung der Atlantiküberquerung. Im Dorf deckten uns mit Gemüse, Obst von lokalen Bauern ein und füllten unsere Wasservorräte auf.
    Bei der Gelegenheit machte ich mit Lea und Magnus eine kleine Wanderung das Tal hinauf zu einem Wasserfall. Die Weg führte uns erst durch das nahegelegene Dorf Tarrafal, wo wir uns erst mit Proviant eindeckten. Nach Tarrafal ging der Weg steil aufwärts zum nächsten Dorf, von dem es dann fast nur noch eben weiter ins Tal geht. Es geht an viel Zuckerrohr, Schilf und vielen anderen Pflanzen vorbei. Durch den kleinen Bach, dem wir folgten, ist das ganze Tal sehr grün und lebhaft.
    Für den gesamten Weg brauchten wir c.a. 2 1/2h und erreichten gegen 11 Uhr den Wasserfall. Wir verbrachten ein paar Stunden am Wasserfall und genossen das Gezwitscher der Vögel und das Süßwasser des Wasserfalls. Auf dem Rückweg stießen wir auf einen Farmer, von dem wir Tomaten, Basilikum und Maniok kauften.
    Nach ein paar Tagen auf Santo Antao bließen wir am Abend des 02. März das Horn zum Aufbruch, verabschiedeten uns von der Insel und legten ab Richtung Südamerika.    En savoir plus

    Die Otong Java

    Otong Java, das ist der Name des polynesischen Katamaran mit dem ich voraussichtlich den Atlantik überqueren werde. Das Boot so einzigartig, dass es mir schwer fällt es mit Worten zu beschreiben. Trotzdem werde ich es versuchen. Das Boot misst 20m in der Länge und vielleicht 7m in der Breite. Das Deck ist, für einen Katamaran unüblicherweise, vollständig mit Planken bedeckt, was eine riesige Fläche erzeugt auf der man sich bewegen kann. Der hintere Teil des linken Hulls dient ausschließlich als Schlaf-/Essenslagerraum, wo auch ich schlafe. Der vordere Teil ist mit Surfboards und diversen anderen Dingen voll. Im rechten Hull befindet sich die wirklich schön eingerichtete Küche mit einem Wohnraum, den wir aber eigentlich kaum verwenden, da es so warm ist, dass wir an Deck essen. Dazu gibt es noch 4 weitere Kojen, was insgesamt 12 Kojen macht.
    Das Boot ist fast ausschließlich mit Tauen befestigt und nur wenig mit Metallteilen, wie Schrauben und besteht zum großen Teil aus Holz. Das ermöglicht relativ leichte Reparaturen, auch mitten auf dem Ozean, falls mal das Ruder bricht oder ähnliches.
    Das klingt jetzt natürlich alles ziemlich romantisch, aber ein Holzboot bringt auch seine Eigenarten mit sich. So sind zum Beispiel die Geräusche, die es während der Fahrt macht echt gewöhnungsbedürftig und man hat am Anfang das Gefühl das Boot breche jeden Augenblick auseinander. Dazu kommt, dass durch diverse kleinere Lecks Wasser eindringt und man manchmal im Wasser steht im Gang. Es gibt aber natürlich beidseitig Pumpen, mit denen man das Wasser auspumpen kann.     Ein letztes Mal Las Palmas

    Nach dem ich Güigüí nach drei wunderschönen Tagen hinter mir gelassen und Sebo mich in Mogán abgesetzt hatte musste ich mich erstmal neu orientieren und einen Plan für die nächsten Tage machen. Da mich die Nachricht erreichte, dass mein Boot noch einige Tage braucht entschied ich mich die anderen aus meiner Crew an einem anderen Strand zu besuchen. So machte ich mich dann am nächsten Tag auf den Weg und erreichte gegen Mittag den Strand. Dort traf ich Magnus aus Las Palmas wieder, der auch auf meinem Boot ist, und erstmal Jonas und Carmen, ebenfalls Teil der Crew. Wir verbrachten nur einen Abend zusammen, aber verstanden uns super, was mir ein gutes Gefühl für die beforstehende Überfahrt gab. Am nächsten Tag brach ich auf, um wieder zurück nach Las Palmas zu trampen, da ich das Bedürfnis hatte zu surfen. Allerdings kam ich nur bis Maspalomas und nam von dort den Bus nach Las Palmas.
    Am Hitchhikers Beach traf ich wieder auf Stuart und Chris, mit denen ich mehr als einen Monat zusammen am Strand verbracht hatte und lernte Marvin kennen, der neu dazugestoßen war. Die nächsten Tage verbrachte ich hauptsächlich mit entspannen, containern und mit alten Freunden chillen. Das Surfen stellte sich leider als schwierig heraus, da der Sturm über dem Nordatlantik riesige Wellen zu den Kanaren trieb, die kreuz und quer auf den Strand trafen.    En savoir plus

    Puerto Mogán

    Nachdem ich mich von meinen Freunden aus Las Palmas verabschiedet hatte, machte ich mich mit Rucksack und Surfboard auf den Weg Richtung Süden. Allerdings stellte sich das trampen mit Surfboard an einer eher ungünstigen Stelle als ziemlich schwierig heraus und ich entschloss mich den Bus nach Puerto Mogán zu nehmen.
    Puerto Mogán ist der Ort, wo die Autobahn im Süden-Westen der Insel endet. Der Ort besteht hauptsächlich aus Ferienanlagen, die sich auf beiden Seiten des Tals bis zum Meer erstrecken und einer kleinen Marina, die zwar auch sehr touristisch ist, aber trotzdem eine schöne Atmosphäre bietet, um Abends essen zu gehen.
    In Puerto Mogán angekommen ging ich erstmal zur Marina, um mich zu orientieren und nach einem Schlafplatz zu schauen. Dort traf ich auf eine Gruppe Hippies die mir anboten in ihrem besetzten Haus zu übernachten, was ich dankend annahm, da sonst eher weniger Möglichkeiten in Aussicht waren.
    Einer der Gruppe erzählte mir von einem Mädchen, das nach einen Jungen mit Surfbrett und Rucksack gefragt hatte. Er konnte mir allerdings nicht viel über sie sagen, außer dass sie auch mit Rucksack unterwegs war und dunkle längere Haare hatte. Nachdem ich mein Gepäck im Squat geparkt hatte ging ich zurück in die Stadt, um noch was zu essen und vielleicht doch noch das mysteriöse Mädchen zu treffen. Auf dem Weg in die Stadt traf ich einen deutschen Hippie, der seit drei Jahren in Puerto Mogán von Straßenkunst lebt und unterhielt mich mit ihm über das Leben als Aussteiger auf den Kanaren. Danach ging ich weiter Richtung Stadt und stieß an der Bushaltestelle Puerto Mogáns auf ein Mädchen mit Rucksack, das der Beschreibung recht ähnlich kam, die mir der Hippie gegeben hatte. Also sprach ich sie an und es stellte sich heraus, dass sie mich tatsächlich gesehen hatte und fragen wollte, ob ich ein Platz zum Schlafen wüsste. Ich bot ihr an mit in den Squat zu kommen und dort zu schlafen. Auf dem Weg zum Squat erzählte sie mir, dass sie plane zum Güigüí Strand zu gehen, von dem ich schon häufiger gehört hatte und ich beschloss mich ihr anzuschließen.    En savoir plus

    Meine weiteren Pläne

    Während meiner Zeit in Las Palmas ergab sich keine Gelegenheit den Atlantik zu überqueren, allerdings hatte ich Kontakt mit einem Captain, der Anfang Februar von den Kanaren los will. Irgendwann entschloss ich mich ihm zuzusagen und die Insel noch zu erkunden. Ich werde die Kanaren c.a. am 10.02 verlassen und zu den Kap Verden segeln. Von dort geht es dann über den Atlantik nach Brasilien und von dort in die Karibik. Vielleicht steige ich allerdings schon in Brasilien aus, das muss ich noch entscheiden.En savoir plus

    Hitchhikers Beach

    Den ersten Tag am Hitchhikers Beach nutzte ich erst mal zur Orientierung im Hafen und um die anderen kennenzulernen. Der Strand erstreckt sich auf vielleicht 500m und grenzt direkt, nur durch einen Zaun getrennt, an den Hafen. Dort errichteten wir auch unser "Lager", wo wir unser containertes Essen und Gepäck lagerten. Die ersten Tage waren wir eine Gruppe aus ausschließlich Deutschen, was sich mit der Zeit dann etwas ändern sollte. In der gesamten Zeit waren um die 10-15 Leute. Die Tage verbrachte ich meist im Hafen und sprach mit Bootsbesitzern, Kapitäns und vielen anderen, die sich im Hafen herumtrieben. Abends gingen wir regelmäßig containern und chillten am Strand. Nach der Zeit hatten wir die Supermärkte ausgemacht und gingen meist mit ungefähr 8 Leuten Containern. Teilweise war das auch nötig, da wir soo viel Essen fanden, dass jeder eine Box voll mit Essen tragen musste.En savoir plus

    Ankunft in Las Palmas

    Nach gerade einmal vier Tagen konnten wir am Ende des Horizonts die Umrisse Gran Canarias erkennen, das wir dann auch am späten Nachmittag erreichten. Die ersten Schritte auf dem Festland waren noch etwas holprig und ich hatte das Gefühl der Boden bewege sich. Nach dem das Boot festgemacht war verabschiedete ich mich von Finn und May und verließ den Hafen in Richtung Strand, von dem ich gehört hatte, dass man dort schlafen könnte. Am Strand angekommen fand ich ein kleines Camp mit c.a. 10 Hitchhikern vor, die alle am Strand schliefen. Nach kurzer Zeit stellte sich heraus, dass es ausschließlich deutsche Hitchhiker waren und ich fühlte gleich sehr wohl in der Runde. Alle teilten ähnliche Werte und Ziele, was ein starkes Zusammengehörigkeitsgefühl auslöste. Später spannte ich meine Hängematte zwischen zwei Palmen und schlief entspannt ein. Das war mein erster Tag am 'Hitchhikers Beach', wo ich viele neue Freunde finden und mit ihnen viele Erfahrungen sammeln sollte.En savoir plus

    Lange Tage auf See

    Die Überfahrt zu den Kanaren gestaltete sich eher langweilig. Sobald die Segel gesetzt und die erste Aufregung vorüber war wurde alles sehr ruhig. Ich habe es sehr genossen vorne am Bug zu sitzen und in die weite zu schauen. Das Leben an Bord eines Schiffes, insbesondere einem recht modernen, besteht meist aus lesen, kochen und viel nichts tun.
    Es gab aber auch aufregende Situationen. Einmal hatte wir sehr starken Wellengang in der Nacht und ich lag mehr auf der Wand als im Bett. Auch die Bewegung durchs Boot wird plötzlich zu einer ganz eigenen Herausforderung.
    An Bord habe auch bei ersten Manövern mitgemacht, auch wenn es in der kurzen Zeit nicht allzu viele waren. Das spannendste war das Genoasegel mit einem zweiten Baum zu setzen.
    Ein wirklich schönes Ereignis für mich war als eines Abends während des Sonnenuntergangs Delphine zum Bug schwammen und sich uns für einige Zeit anschlossen.    En savoir plus

    First time on a sailboat

    Everything happened so quickly that i couldn't realize that i really gonna sail to the canaries. And in the next moment i was on the La Mustache leaving La Línea. The first day was very exciting because everything was so new for me. Nevertheless, it took few hours till we've got on the atlantic and could put out the sails. I will never forget this feeling when we put the sails out for the first time. It was really incredible!
    When my adrenaline level decreased i started hoping that i won't get seasick. So focused the horizon for some time and enjoyed the sunset.    En savoir plus

    Say goodbye to La Línea

    The day started like every other day in La Línea after the breakfast i went down to the marina to check out the new boat, that arrived the day before. It was a beautiful boat with a red hull and at least 58ft. Cos i didn't came on the pontoon, i placed myself near the boat in the marina and waited. Some time later Luzana came to me and asked me what i am doing. I said to him i keep an eye on my new boat and laughed. Few minutes later i was eating my salad the captain of this boat passed by, i saw my chance and asked whether he need somebody for the way to the canaries. He asked me when i would be ready to embark and i answered that iam ready maximal 3 hours. 3 hours later we left La Línea in direction of Canary Islands with the La Mustache II.

    Other hitchhikers and moving to the camp

    On the second day i wanted to look for another accommodation. So i went to the campsite outside of the city and asked there for a place to stay. The problem was that i only had a hammock with a tarp and no tent. The campsite only accept people with a tent and didn't let me stay. I decided to go back to the hostel and continue my search at the marina. At the marina in La Línea i met the first other boat hitchhiker. His name is Przemek and he is from Poland. He told me that there are about 10 other hitchhikers looking for a boat to the canaries and they have a small camp outside of the city. In the afternoon i met the others from the camp and decided to join them on the next day. The days at the marine i spent with talking to the people at the peers and looking for new boats arriving. The people at the marina are really open and friendly and i had some great conversations.
    In the camp with the other hitchhikers were also a very nice atmosphere and all of them were really sympathic. We dumpster dived our food, cooked together and had a nice time. With the time we were about 13 or more hitchhikers at the marina and most of them stayed in the camp. What i really appreciated, that there weren't any fights between hitchhikers and everybody was happy for the others. Although, there haven't been much boats going to the canaries.
    The time in La Línea passed by so fast. I stayed there for nearly one week and nevertheless, it felt like only few days.    En savoir plus

    Starting in La Línea

    After another night in the hammock near to a rest stop and another day of hitchhiking i arrived in the afternoon in Gibraltar. At first i just walked a little bit confused to Gibraltar and looked for the marina. In one marina of Gibraltar i met Thomas. He works there at the reception and gave me some tips about Gibraltar. He also told me that it is maybe better to try the marina in La Línea. So i returned to La Línea and went to the marina there. At the marina bar i talked to a captain, who will go to the canaries, but his crew was already complete. We drank a beer together and talked about sailing and traveling. In the evening i got a hostel in La Línea.En savoir plus

    San Pedro

    When i arrived in San Pedro i only saw few people in the village. Because it was getting dark i hurried a bit and looked for a place to sleep and cooked something fast. The first night i slept without a tarp over me, only the leafs of the bushes protected me from the light rain. The other morning i build my tarp, cos i heard it will rain much more. Totally true! In the late afternoon it started to rain and it was getting more and more. It rained and stormed the whole night and nearly the complete next day without big breaks. In one of those breaks i tightened my robes again and got back in my sleeping bag. I spent the whole day with laying down under my tarp and thinking about god and the world.
    On my third and last day in Sun Pedro the weather was great and i could dry my stuff, that got a little bit wet. With the sun came also the people out of their huts and tents and i wondered how many people are living there. I spent the rest of the day with relaxing on the beach and did a small hiking trip.
    In the evening i was just eating my dinner at the beach as a helicopter headed directly in our direction and stopped a hundred meters from me. They took one guy from the village to the next hospital, because he had a stroke. With this my time in San Pedro ended and i left on the next day with the first sunbeams.

    Here are few things and thoughts about San Pedro.
    In San Pedro are living about 50 people in their huts around the year + the people in the tents. I was completely out of season and there were about 20 people in tents. The toilet situation was during my time okay and every human used them. Nevertheless, you had to pay a bit attention were you walk, because of the dog shit and sometimes it smell pretty bad. However, in the main season it could be a real problem.
    The people there are very kind and everyone was nice to me, but the people from the village stayed a bit away from strangers. I think it's caused by the tourists in the summer, who only visit San Pedro for one day and don't come cause of the way of life in San Pedro. For the next time i hope i will have more time to get closer to the people there.    En savoir plus

    Elche - San Pedro

    The next morning in Elche i got up very early and said goodbye to Affif. At 6:00 i should met my lift to Nijar, what is nearby to Las Negras. Nevertheless, no one showed up to bring me to Nijar. At first I was really upset about it, but then i though: take it easy, it's very early and there's plenty of time to find another way there. So i went to a café and made a new plan with a positive mood. On Blablacar i found a new lift from Murcia to Nijar. I took a bus to Murcia and bought there some food for the next days, because it was Sunday and neather in Las Negras nor in Campohermoso were a shop opened. Cos i had some time left, i spent about 2 hours in a park and enjoyed the nice weather. Later i got with my lift Hassan from Marokko to Campohermoso and later to Las Negras. The last kilometers to San Pedro are not accessible by car. I arrived in San Pedro with the last sunrays and built my sleeping place.En savoir plus

    Elche

    In the morning i left Spores Homes at 9am to continue hitchhiking to Málaga. At the drive-up in direction of the highway i recognized again how difficult hitchhiking in Spain really is. After two or three of waiting and one changing of the spot i got a lift to a gas station near the highway to Alicante. I had to wait another hour or more to get a lift to the airport of Alicante. Airports are good spots for hitchhikers in Spain because there are many foreigners, who are more used to hitchhikers than the spanish people. However, there was nobody going in my direction so i had the idea to stay for the night in Alicante and take a lift to las negras in the morning, that i found on blablacar. So i looked for a lift in the city and met Affif. Affif is from Argelia and lives with his family since four years in Elche. He offered me to stay the night in his apartment in Elche after he took care about a few things. So i spent the rest of the day with Affif, who bought some stuff for his shower. Later i helped him to get the stuff to his apartment. Affif is phoning all the time with everybody. He has got two phones and uses both of them nearly in the same time.En savoir plus

    Spores Homes in Cullera

    After 3 days of relaxing in Spores it's time to get back on the streets. My time here i spent mostly with relaxing on the terrace or at the beach. I did yoga or some sports in the morning on terrace. Then i washed my clothes for the first time on my trip. At Spores everybody does what he likes to do. During my time here there have been only a few people in the house and i had much time for myself.
    The center and the beach of Cullera is pretty touristic. But in this time of the year nobody except the citizens and a few caravans spending their time here and Spores Homes is not so close to the touristic parts.    En savoir plus

    Valencia and Spores homes

    Today was the first night with a roof on top of me since i left Karlsruhe 6 days ago. After the breakfast Milan showed me some parts of the city. The look of Valencia is a way different to Barcelona. It's cleaner and not as busy as Barcelona. I appreciated the atmosphere in the streets of Valencia very much. Especially the park, that is build on a drought river bed. The day in Valencia was my first really warm day on my travel. It had about 25°C and the sun was shining the whole day. On the afternoon we took the train to Cullera and went to spores homes. Spores Homes is a house where traveller are able to live for some time. This day there were about 10 people including us staying at spores.En savoir plus

    My Way to Valencia

    After two days of Barcelona we packed our things together and started to drive in direction of south. The boys brought me to a roundabout, where i started to hitchhiike. It took a bit till i got my first lift to Tarragona. He took me to a drive-up of the highway. There i spent nearly 2h of waiting till i decided to go to the city and try another route. In Tarragona i had the same problem as in Straßburg. Then a women brought me to a gas station nearby the highway in hope i can find a lift there. Nevertheless, nobody at this gas station drove in my direction. After two or three hours i gave up and hitchhiiked to the next train station. From there i took the train to Valencia. In Valencia i met my cousin Milan, who does a semester abroad.En savoir plus

    Barcelona

    From Figueres to Barcelona it went very good. I got my first lift a second after i wrote my sign. The second lift at this day brought me directly to the campsite, where i met Nick, Juri and Jascha. At the afternoon we took a first look to the city with their longboards. I really enjoyed to stay at one place for more than one night and just chillout a little bit.En savoir plus

    Second day on the road

    This day started pretty good. After a little breakfast i found a lift after a few minutes of waiting. Until near the border it was very easy for me and i had a positive mood. This changed when i saw the last rest stop before the border. On this rest stop were only few people and nearly all of them went in the wrong direction. The only lift i got was to the border and from there to a small city on the spanish side. From there i got to Figueres where i was dropped of near the highway, but about 3 kilometers outside of the city and the place was bad to hitchhiike. So i decided to go to the city and buy some stuff. After that i went a little bit out of the city again and built my sleeping place.En savoir plus

    First Night

    After Maxime dropped me off on the rest stop, everything worked pretty well. I hadn't to wait more than 10 minutes. I planned to sleep at the rest stop of Lyon, but there weren't a good place so i continued. A few kilometers before Avignon i spent my first night. It was a little bit rainy, but thanks to my sleeping cover i didn't got wett. So ended my first day on the road.En savoir plus

    Stuck in Strasbourg

    This morning i startet my trip on the rest stop by Baden-Baden at 9pm where Gabi and Dierk brought me. At first it looked pretty bad, but after about 30min i got my first lift for the day near to Strasbourg. My third lift, who took me to the centre of Strasbourg said he would drive this day to Barcelona and maybe could take me with him (this guy was very funny. He is from Italy, lives in Barcelona and wants to open a restaurant in Strasbourg) So i decided to visit the city and buy some stuff i had forgot. I waited till 12.30 for a message from the Barcelona guy. Then i turned back to the drive-up of the highway. I tried in total all 3 drive-ups of the centre and waited about 2 or 3 hours, but nobody gave me a lift. Then i met Pauline, who is a singer and does a cinema festival in Straßburg. Pauline took me to her crew and we ate together. Later Maxime gave me a lift to the next rest stop.En savoir plus
