We walked another portion of the Juan Bautista Anza trail today. This actually started about 0.5 miles behind our place but we have to drive 4 miles to get there!! This home was mostly between golf courses and a huge wash. Birds everywhere. Saw 6 Vermillion Fly Catchers, 8 hummingbirds, some hawks and ravens. My Merlin app identified an Aberts Towhee! So many birds. The wash had many shrubs and trees in front of it so birds birds birds.

We went to the St. Xavier Mission. Lots of history. After that we went back to the Sonoran Desert Museum. Saw different things this time. It was a good day with sister Vicki and Willie!

    Elephant Head De Anza #2

We decided to walk this trail again. We turned around at campsite #15. Juan Bautista's group camped here. The only person who died on this trail was a mother who gave birth to a boy. She died about 6 hours after his birth. This was the site where that happened.

2At the start, these folks were all watching and counting hawks/vultures migrating north.
This was along the first trail we went on. Very small and serene with a couple of ducks. The 'snow' on this tree is cotton. The cottonwood trees have been leafed out for quite some time.Very different foliage. Lush and green. Fernlike.Poppies still blooming along the trail.

    De Anza trail by Tubac

We went for a walk by Tubac. We went north this time. After we crossed the road, a sign pointed us to the trail. We crossed the Santa Cruz River on three boards over it. This is the 'bridge'! We walked about a mile and the trail ended so we backtracked. Eventually we came to a trail off this one and took it. This was the correct trail. We crossed the river again and continued on our way. It appeared to end by the Tubac Golf Course so we turned back. We saw a cardinal, hummingbird, Vermillion flycatcher but saw and heard many others.

    Adamson Catino Trail #2

We walked this trail again. They were working in the pecan orchard making the berms around the trees. No animal sightings just birds. After this walk we went to the Historic Canoa Ranch. Volunteers did a lot of work here saving the buildings. This was alive in the 1800s and early 1900s. The Mannings owned it. We walked around a 2 acre pond that had, in years past, been used for irrigation. At that time it was 5 acres.

We walked in Tucson today. This ended up being a great walk with lots and lots of desert plants. The flowers, ocotillo and barrel cacti are all in bloom. On the way home we decided to get some sunset pics. We drove toward Saquero National Park but pulled off early. Pics are in the end.
