    From Paris to Gimhae (김해)

    Here we go ! We took the plane for a 14h flight from Paris to Gimhae. It was long but everything went smoothly. We were scared about the immigration but everything was fine ! After landing we took a PCR test at Incheon airport and took the train to Gimhae with the KTX bullet train (not very expensive and fast!).
    We were welcomed by Sam, our internship master, and another French intern. They picked us up from the train station and took us to visit a temple ! Then we got back and slept our due till the next day 😴    Читать далее

    1st day of internship !

    We began our day at 9 o'clock by preparing the trays for the customers for the afternoon. Our job is to prepare trays with cakes, cream, strawberries for customers that come to the farm to pick strawberries and make desserts with it. We also help them to make the cakes and we chat with them in English during the cooking class, mostly with the children. It was really fun ! Some children speak really good English, as many of them attend English academies (very expensive !). We finished the day by playing badminton all together !Читать далее

    After work 🍗

    After finishing the work, we went to eat fried chicken with the team. They taught us the ways to soju drinking : the youngest pours the drinks and the first glass is bottom’s up ! Afterward, when your drink is empty, someone else has to refill the glass for you, but don’t do it yourself, otherwise it’s rude !

    Cute kids and an unexpected meeting

    Monday, back to work again ! Now, we know where everything is in the storage room (almost) and got the hang of making the preparations (except for when we don't) :')

    Here came a new challenge : instead of helping out a couple families with the cake making, we had to handle around 60 korean toddlers, absolutely adorable but who do not speak a single word of English! Explaining a recipe to them was a struggle but most cakes turned out pretty good ! Or at least when the kids didn't eat all the ingredients 😅
    However, it is important to note how well behaved korean toddlers are! So young and already so respectful, we were definitely impressed 👏

    There was barely any work for the afternoon so we went with our boss Sam to a meeting with Jung Chang-Hoon, the owner of Gyungnam Daily News (a local newspaper). As soon as we got introduced to him and the workers there, we were asked to sing korean songs for some reason and then he offered us a signed copy of his poetry book. They also asked us to do an interview if the time allows it so you might see us in the news 😎

    The day ended by eating real ramen made by 엄먼님 and watching a korean movie with everyone, Hitman : Agent Jun. Do we recommend it ? Not sure but at least it was funny 😅    Читать далее

    Rainy day and 떡볶이

    It was a rainy day today, and everything went south 🤨 But to comfort us, we went eating 떡볶이 (tteokbokki), rice cakes with spicy sauce, fish cakes and cheese at a small Korean shop. The owner knows are good friends with our internship master. It was delicious ! Usually it is drank with rice wine, 막걸리 but this time they were out of it 😭
    This is also the time to learn some conversational Korean and bad words (not really) : 구라쟁이 = professional liar. If you add 쟁이 as a suffix it means “professional” so with 구라 = lie, it means “professional liar”. Useful expressions !!    Читать далее

    Cafe time ☕️

    After finishing the cleaning and the preparation of the material for the next day, our internship master took us to a near by cafe to drink a latte. The place is called 보라빛봄 : it is the name of the two daughters of the owner “보라” that means “purple” (보라색) and “빛봄” that means “spring”.
    The cafe is really well curated, and the garden is really pretty (너무 예뻐요!) with rosemaries. A nice place to relax ! 🍃 ⛅️    Читать далее

    Day off n•1 🤸‍♂️

    For our first day off, a friend that works with us took us to 서면 (Seomyeon), a neighborhood full of young people ! We played arcade games (and we lost miserably), ate beef rice soup (국밥), played bowling, took a bubble tea 🧋 on the go, took some photos in a Photo Booth (highly recommended) and took a walk in Busan Citizen Park. Busan Citizens Park is a former Imperial Japanese Army base until 1945 and United States Army camp that played a role in the Korean War, to support South Korea.
    It’s a nice place to take a walk on a sunny days, you can take 1-1h30 to see the park.    Читать далее

    Day off n°2 🤡

    For the next day off, we had a plan to visit the Jagalchi fish market in Busan (부산 자갈치시장). But it seems like nothing was going well for us 😅

    It started raining early in the morning so we decided to take the bus there, anddddd it didn't come. Fine, we took the bikes and cycled for 20 minutes in the rain until we reached the center of Gimhae where we took the train to Busan. No zombies on it, just Louise, Clara and Clara's terrible sense of orientation! So we followed Clara's itinerary and ended up in the opposite direction. Oops ! 🥴
    We went to the right place in the end (and 1h and a half later, I'm so sorry for this Louise) and visited ! It was really nice except we were soaked, cold and tired. At least we got to eat an amazing lunch at the market cooked by a little nice old lady : some 비빔밥 (bibimbap : bibim meaning to mix and bap meaning rice), some 사시미 (sashimi, raw fish) and some 매운탕 (fish head soup)!🤗    Читать далее

    삼겹살 !!

    Saturday was a busy day as we welcomed the customers for the week-end cooking classes. We prepared as usual the trays for the afternoon and teached the kids. It's always fun to work with everyone, we laugh a lot even when everything goes south !🤣
    After work we went with Sam to eat 삼겹살 (samgyeosal), that is grilled meat, usually wrapped in lettuce leaves or perilla leaves, with sauces and garlic. How can I say it... it is so delicious that I was mouth watering just seeing the meat getting grilled 🤩
    When we were full (너무 배 불어 = neomu bae buleo = I'm full), we went to Changwon to eat (again!!) some grilled chicken from the foodtrucks on the side of the road, next to the bridge. A lot of people where parked along the road and were kind of camping there, with camping chairs, stoves and everything. We were a bit surprised because we did not expected to see people camping right next to the road 🤨 but the view with the bridge in the background was nice for sure !    Читать далее

    Morning hike & McDonald's

    To purge ourselves from the amount of food eaten the previous night we went on a morning hike at 김해시시민체육공원, a mountain in Gimhae with a nice trail and a playground. After a nice walk in the forest we went... to McDonald's for breakfast. Yeah, healthy is never really an option here 😅
    After work, we went back home with 정빈, our local colleague and friend who teached us many korean drinking games : appartement game, rythm game, 31, kimchi game, follow me, "바니바니, 당근,당근"(bunny and carrot game) etc... We also discovered the amazing concept of the "idiot shot" (병신샷) where you take a shot everytime you do something stupid 😵
    At the end, we could only be "취하다" (to be drunk) 😅

    Work in the office

    Today we worked in the office on different projects in order to diversify the farm activities. We are currently planning the future crops that will be planted throughout the year.
    As the really studious persons that we are, we went rummaging through the old boxes in the office. So here is a snippet of what we found in the boxes 😁
    That evening we played Jenga with our internship master and I think we are ready for the Jenga World Cup because I've never seen a tower like that !! Clara kept sulking because I destroyed part of her tower (I'm a bad person sorry Clara don't be mad)

    Bike trip to Yeonji Park and flat tires

    After our work in the office we went to bike along the river to enjoy the end of the sunny day 🌞
    We biked 30 min in the rice fields and arrived to Yeonji Park in Gimhae.
    After walking through the park we decided to go back home but everything didn’t went as planned ! I thought it was a good idea to inflate the tire of my bike 🚴 BUT it did the completely opposite, and deflated entirely my tire 🫣 we couldn’t inflate it anymore and we had to call our internship master to pick me up and go to fix the bike. Fortunately it wasn’t much and the tire was fixed in a short time 😅Читать далее

    Day off n°3 : Trip to Busan

    On this day off, our internship master took us to Ulsan Ganjeolgot and then to Haeundae beach, where we ate chicken noodle soup and were joined by Brazilian interns. It was a really nice day, still chilly with the wind at the beach. We also visited the famous temple on the coast of the sea Haedong Yonggungsa Temple (해동 용궁사(부산)). The 3 French interns were supposed to stay the night in Haeundae to enjoy Busan's night life but as the idiot I am, I booked the wrong week ! So we had to go home and reschedule our trip because of me !Читать далее

    Day off n°4 : Gamcheon Culture Village

    We visited Gamcheon Culture Village, a really unique place in Busan : it's a colorful neighbourhood of small houses in floors. You can visit everything by foot and collect stamps along the way (we were really bad at it, we only got 5 out of the 12 you could get...) The place is still inhabited. The small houses in Korea are often considered as the house of poor class whereas the tall buildings are the houses of the middle-up/rich class because of it's convenience.
    Still as Fench people we are not used to these tall building sprouting everywhere.
    We went afterwards in Seomyeon do take a coffee and go shopping at Olive Young, a famous brand of cosmetics. Korea's cosmetics are considered to be of good quality so we tried a few of them !

    Day in the life of Louise and Clara

    Some days we don't visit any new places, or meet any people but we still experience some new things !
    Here is a rundown of our daily work routine :
    9am : start work, prepare the trays the kids are going to use for the cakes: precut the cakes, put cream in piping bags, weight the strawberries and select the cutlery
    10-12am : Arrival of the kids ! Either accompanied by teachers during the week or parents on the weekend, they usually are really excited to make the cakes ! And... eat the ingredients. We have to teach the recipe to them, which is sometimes complicated when our korean isn't good and their English isn't good 😅

    Every new customer is a new interaction and new things to learn, so work is never boring !

    Afternoon work is usually a second group of customers or preparation for the next day 😊    Читать далее

    Le train FACE À LA MER FACE CONTRE TERRE

    After a very peaceful night in Haeundae (not), we set off to visit some new things in Busan ! First, we were recommended the Blue line train which faces the sea : you get to enjoy the coast view while stopping along the way to reach a cute beach. As always, our day off was cursed with bad weather. The pictures are still kinda cute ! We stopped at a stop where we could walk on glass panels, which was fun ! We ended the day by eating at a food court and visiting the fabric market. Also, there is a sand sculpture expo on Haeundae beach, Stay tuned for the end results !Читать далее

    Sturgeon farm in Hamyang

    We went on a trip to a sturgeon farm to meet some possible business partners ! We also tasted caviar (that tastes earthy I think ? Not that bad actually)
    We also went on a monorail in Hamyang to the top of the mountain but we didn’t see much because of the clouds ☁️

    Lotte Waterpark ☀️🏄🏻‍♀️

    We enjoyed a day off at Lotte Waterpark with 정빈, our friend from work that is leaving for military service in less than a month and his girlfriend 서연 ! It was sunny and there was not much people since we went on a Monday ! We rode the water slides and burned in the sun ! The funniest was the big wave attraction that goes 3m high (I think ? No ?
