    Old West RV in Monticello

    Picked this small campground so we could download everything we needed for Canyonlands NP since there is zero service in the Needles District there. The campground owner, Gunslinging Jim, is a kind man full of character. He signed a dvd of his swear-to-god gunslinging competitions. The dvd also has the wifi password and shower stall code. 🤣 Loved our one night. Had very little sleep as we knew we were going to be heading to the NP with wind gusts up to 40mph the next day. 😳 $30 cash for full hook-up plus strong wifi and laundry only cost $2 per load ($1 to wash and $1 to dry).Lue lisää

    Valley of the Gods

    Amazing! Free BLM camping between Mexican Hat and Monticello, Utah. Red dust everywhere and we saw a trailer get stuck on the first hill coming in but roads and sites are actually not bad and spaced out. Kaline went crazy dog running around freeeee. The further in you go the more amazing the views get. Since we were staying for only one night, we chose the first spot we saw and then biked around to see the rest.Lue lisää

    The Needles Campground

    Probably one the coolest campgrounds we’ve been to when you consider the size of the campsites and how spaced out they are from your neighbors. The Chesler Park Viewpt trail was WOW. Worth the back pain I suffered the followed days. Not from the hike itself but from hiking it when I woke up with issues and tried to power through it...making it worse. I know better but still glad we did it!Lue lisää

    Moab + Arches/Canyonlands Pt 2

    Tyson biked The Whole Enchilada, The Mag Five, Cpt Ahab and a few other “wicked awesome trails”. I rested and healed (my lower back). We stayed at Willow Springs BLM near Arches. It was not great but not bad. Moab was annoyingly busy and all RV & camp spots (and there are a lot) were taken even after trying midweek a few times. Wish we could have snagged a spot by the river for $20/night but alas no go. Our spot was free so can’t complain that much. And we did have awesome views of La Sal Mtns & Arches. Arches NP was okay but packed. Twice it was turning people away b/c they were full when we tried to go in. This side of Canyonlands NP, Island in the Sky, was not nearly as cool as Needles but the big sweeping views did not disappoint for a day trip. Moab is a super cool little adventure town.Lue lisää

    Thought we’d be the dirtiest dirtbags rolling into the Green River SP after 10 days of boondocking/dry camping. Thankfully, the large groups on river adventures use this place as a landing pad and many looked like the mud won. We were a close second with our dust bowl smelly selves. First-up: Dump those tanks! Then hook-up the camper to sweet, sweet shore power and ever flowing water. Then laundry-ALL of it-our comforter had changed colors I swear to Bob. A shower with high pressure wash to rid ourselves of the caked in dust and sweat. My hair was a rat’s nest. We got the last available camp spot for the night. Halle-freakin’-lujah.Lue lisää

    Sleepy Hollow Campground

    I’m going to call this moon view area because of the landscape on this side (east) of Capitol Reef NP. 1 night here so we can scoot in early to the NP and grab a site there. Not much to the campground but we met a few folks with interesting stories. One couple started out converting a bus, then moved to towing an Rpod, and are now full-timing it in a Class A with tow behind vehicle.Lue lisää

    Capitol Reef NP / Fruita Campground

    Loved the contrast of the orchards and river at the campground and then the spectacular geodiversity of everything else. The Navajos called it Land of the Sleeping Rainbow. It’s an incredible place. We were lucky and had two full days of great hikes and calm evenings. Temps dropped and rain/snow came on our final night. That made for a beautiful, snowy drive to our next destination.Lue lisää

    Closest Walmart detour

    Kaline ran out of doggie Prozac. Tried the CBD oil for pets and that seemed to have the opposite affect on her. I thought Tyson was going to throw her off a cliff at Arches NP. Our vet can’t prescribe in Utah so our only option was take her to another vet ($) or find a Walmart b/c her script can transfer to another Walmart anywhere. So here we are in Richfield, Utah. 🙄 A slight detour north but necessary for everyone’s sanity. It’s cold here!!!Lue lisää

    Tom Springs Dispersed Camping

    Best free camp spot to date!!! It’s only a few miles from Bryce Canyon NP, we can let Kaline off leash, easy in and out, not dusty, and best of all decent cell service🙌🏼 🙌🏼 ! We were only going to stay for a day or two but weather looks great after tonight’s low of 29 😳. Nowhere to be until Sunday so let’s enjoy nature!!Lue lisää

    May 2nd - 9th St. George, Utah
    A perfect spot to stay for a week and regroup before our next adventures. Tennis, pool lounging, dinners with neighbors, biking, hair care, sipping on cocktails, vaccines and new spark plugs. We didn’t get to explore the arts district or Snow Canyon area which I hear is awesome. Next time...Lue lisää

    Crystal and I were inseparable many MANY moons ago. It was at that age where bad choices were fun and consequences didn’t matter. Thankfully, we both survived. It’s been a decade or so since we last saw each other in person but that bond is still there. A little older and a little wiser this time. She now owns a wellness center. She treated me to a spa day there. Not only did I get a goodie bag of natural healing items but I also got treated to spa services like none other. Loved our short but sweet time with this beautiful spirit. So glad she found her calling.Lue lisää

    Death Valley National Park

    Scariest drive we’ve done to date. We were unaware what the heat and 9% grade decent plus tight curves would do to our brakes. And that was only the first set of mountains to pass over. Damn! Brand new rotors and brakes before we left and now rotors are warped or something. Death Valley was 100 degrees on the dot when we drove through. Desolate stretches of driving from Pahrump to our next stop but the drive through Death Valley NP was interesting with sweeping views of what seems like another world.Lue lisää

    Alabama Hills BLM = Movies & Mtns

    Someone told us to make sure to boondock here. Now we know why. We stayed here a week b/c it was such a great place to be. Easy to find a good campsite away from others and beautiful! Great hiking, views, and Lone Pine offers a good deal of fun. Jake’s Saloon, the (dog friendly) movie museum, hiking stores and yummy diners. A great stay indeed.Lue lisää

    Orange Grove RV Park

    1. Legit Orange Grove. I got to walk Kaline through the groves and pick oranges.
    2. Bakersfield High School is where my parents first worked outside of college. My dad was the football coach and mom worked in the Speech Pathology dept. So of course we had to visit.
    3. Last but definitely not least, I was once again reunited with Winking Owl and all the other unbelievable cheap goods Aldi Grocery provides. One can only handle so many Smiths, Andersons and Walmarts. I told Tyson it’s like coming home after a long trip. Cheers 🍷    Lue lisää

    Basalt Campground= Elk & Birria Tacos

    Elk, owls, ground squirrels and so many birds 🦅. I have seen more animals in the wild in one day than I have on all the hikes. This place was a fantastic stop over to break up the windy day drive to the coast. We drove into Santa Nella for cheap gas and holy shit they have Birria Tacos!!! I HAVE BEEN ON THE HUNT FOR THESE SINCE TEXAS. I gave up once we started getting into northern Arizona. I asked Becky in Waco, random people in Austin, Kate in Tucson...crickets. And low and behold, in the parking lot of the cheap Arco gas station is a Birria Taco truck. No joke the best damn meal I’ve ever had in my life and all it was was two crunchy Birria tacos with the dipping sauce.Lue lisää

    Monterey, CA Day 1

    Checked into our new campground at Laguna Seca Raceway. Took Tyson’s bike to a repair shop. Checked out Veteran’s Memorial Park in the city to see if it’s safe and doable for camping on Sunday/Monday. Went to see Pebble Beach golf course and ended up on scenic drive through the area on 17 Mile Dr. You pay $11 and get a map and they have 17 different stopping points including the golf course. Worth the money! Brewery stop and Trader Joe’s stop. It’s been a little over 14 days since getting vaccinated. Feels good/different to be visiting a city and people-ing. 🤗Lue lisää

    While Tyson checked out the local mtn biking, Kaline and I checked out our current campground & the raceway. I’m not a race car fan but watching them speed around this track is exhilarating. Afterwards, we went to the wharf and I got to get my seafood fix. It was soooooo good. 🤤 The best clam chowder I have eaten at Old Fisherman’s Grotto. A nice, relaxing day of going with the flow.Lue lisää

    Monterey Day 3

    New campsite is a fantastic location in the heart of Monterey and not busy. Took a hike near the park, did some laundry and changed out all the bedding and sheets which is not easy. It’s mom’s bday so talked to her for a bit on the phone too. Tyson got to visit Mountain Mike’s pizzeria which was more underwhelming than I imagined. We had laundry day beers there while waiting for the clothes to wash. 😉

    *Update: I figured out that if I try to upload my footprints in crappy cell service region the pictures end up all sorts of 🙃🙂🙃. Sorry 🤷🏼‍♀️    Lue lisää

    Big Sur & Carmel-by-the-Sea

    Today we drove the astoundingly beautiful highway one from Monterey to McWay Falls. Basically the Big Sur area. The main stops along the way were the iconic Bixby Bridge, Pfeiffer Beach (known for its purple sand and keyhole rock), and McWay Falls. Then we spent the evening walking around Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA shopping, eating and drinking. Delicious food at Mission Bistro. Tasty drinks at Alvarado St. Brewery. Choosing only 10 pics is going to be difficult. What a fantastic day!! Tomorrow we head a little north to Sunset Beach CamLue lisää

    Sunset State Beach Campground

    We have a love/hate relationship with California State Parks. You have to pay $45/night to stay at a state park with NO hook-up and, if you are lucky, they have showers BUT it’s going to cost you $1.25 in quarters for a normally cold 5 minute shower. And, once again, IF you are lucky and they have a dump station, their latest way to get more money is a machine that requires a $10 fee in order to open the poop thingy at the dump station. After all that, you would think these campgrounds would be pristine. Nope. Roads suck and the facilities look like they haven’t been updated since the 1950’s. WTF. Texas/Utah/Arizona all have a large RV community and their state parks are updated, maintained, clean and don’t charge all the nickel and dime fees. Now that I’m done with my rant, you can’t beat the natural beauty of the land.Lue lisää
