    Chipping Campden to Broadway - 6 Miles

    After catching the train from Torquay to Moreton-in-Marsh and then a bus on to Chipping Campden we arrived at 3.30pm to start walking the Cotswold Way . Enjoyed a 6 mile walk up over Dovers Hill with expansive views over the Vale of Evesham and then through many farmers fields onto Broadway Tower. Walked down to the village of Broadway and on to our accommodation in Willesey.

  • Broadway to Winchcombe - 11.5 Miles

    Set off in the rain bright and early and after a brief stop to pick up provisions in Broadway we headed on. Walk took us up into the clouds and onto the village of Stanton with its beautiful high street and church which dated back over a thousand years. Enjoyed our lunch on the hill above Wood Stanway and after a slight detour we made our way down through the small hamlet of Farmcote and past the remains of the Cistercian Abbey in Hailes onto the picturesque town of Winchcombe with its ornate almshouses from where we caught a bus back to our accommodation in Cheltenham.

  • Winchcombe to Dowdeswell - 11.5 Miles

    On a sunny summer solstice day , we walked out of Winchcombe up the hill to enjoy panoramic views back over Winchcombe and Sudeley Castle. Slightly further on we found the perfect swing with a view set next to an orchard filled with beautiful red poppies. The walk then took us past Belas Knap Long Barrow, a Neolithic burial chamber over 5000 years old. We then walked up over Cleeve Hill with its golf course and onto the summit where we enjoyed our lunch looking over the city of Cheltenham. A gentle stroll downhill took us to Dowdeswell to catch a bus back to Cheltenham. Memories of the day were the bleating lambs, the bird song and the abundance of butterflies we encountered on this stretch. (Total distance walked today 14.1 miles).Read more

  • Dowdeswell Turn to Painswick- 18.1 Miles

    Long walk today! The sun shone brightly but luckily much of the walk especially in the afternoon took us through meandering woodland. In the morning we walked via Leckhampton Hill and on to Crickley Hill affording distant views to Gloucester and the Mendips beyond. This site was first inhabited at least 5,000 years ago in the New Stone Age. Enjoyed our lunch at Coopers Hill where they hold the annual cheese rolling event . Finished our walk in the picturesque and historic wool town of Painswick.

  • Painswick to Ryeford - 10.1 Miles

    Started our walk in beautiful Painswick leaving the churchyard famous for its 99 yew trees. We headed uphill past a number of disused quarries to Haresfield Beacon and Standish Wood. A superb Cotswold landscape of mixed woodland and open grassland with extensive views across to the Severn Estuary. At Ryeford took the bus to Stroud for a quick explore before heading back to Cheltenham.

  • Ryeford to Cam - 8.2 Miles

    In the morning we caught the train from Cheltenham to Stonehouse and shared the carriage with some Royal Ascot punters! We rejoined the walk at Ryeford, crossed the Stroudwater Canal and River Frome and headed past the Stanley Mills. We walked uphill through the Penn and Stanley Wood and past Nympsfield Long Barrow. The path was shared with runners participating in a charity run which began in Cirencester, some running as far as 100km. The walk took us on past Uley Long Barrow and up over Cam Long Down where we had lunch with beautiful views. After lunch walked over Peaked Down before finishing in the small village of Cam.   • Cam to Wotton-under-Edge - 11.5 Miles

    After a 3 mile walk to get us back on the Cotswold Path passing St George’s Church in Cam with its peeling bells we headed on to Dursley . The walk took us by the Market Hall built in 1783 with its crude statue of Queen Anne before heading up the steep Stinchcombe Hill with the golf course at the top. We walked around the golf course which had panoramic viewpoints before heading on to Nibley where we arrived at the Tyndale Monument erected in the memory of the prominent William Tyndale who translated the bible into English in the early 16th Century. The day finished with a walk through Westridge Woods down Wotten Hill and into the historic Wotten-under-Edge.

  • Battlefields to Old Sodbury - 18.2 Miles

    Started our day at the Sir Bevil Grenville's Monument which was erected in the 18th century to commemorate the Royalist commander and his Cornish pikemen who fought at the Battle of Lansdown, 1643. Strolled down the valley and on to Dyrham House passing through Cold Ashton and visiting its church to see its historic canopied pulpit. Enjoyed a look around the National Trust Anglo-Dutch Baroque styled Dyrham House and Garden and learnt about its owner William Blathwayt (1649-1717) a former accountant-general, diplomat and politician under the later Stuarts and William of Orange. Continued on passing Dodington Park and Estate back to Old Sodbury.

  • Battlefields to Bath - 10.1 Miles

    Our final days walk along the 102 mile (120.5 mile!) Cotswold Way took us to Hanging Hill with long distant views over to Bristol. We then skirted Landsdown Golf Course before passing Bath Racecourse up to Prospect Stile from where we had our first view of Bath. We walked through Weston on the outskirts of the city, in front of the stunning Royal Crescent and through the equally stunning Circus before finishing at Bath Abbey. We celebrated the end of the walk by enjoying the delights at the Thermae Spa. Many memories will stay with us from the walk but to summarise walking this walk in June brought back memories of childhood being out in the peaceful countryside with the sounds of bird song, lambs bleating, a buzzing fly, butterflies, rolling fields, golden fields of barley, wild flowers, panoramic views and the beautiful villages with their Cotswold stone buildings with roses adorning them. A truly lovely walk.

  • Bath

    Enjoyed a morning in Bath before heading home. Walked up to Prior Park, a National Trust landscaped garden with winding paths, hidden features and views over Bath, created in the 1700s by Ralph Allen. Strolled back down to the station through Widcombe village and after enjoying some refreshment headed home.Read more
