  • Day 1 of self isolation

    26 Mac 2020, New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

First day New Zealand is on lockdown for 4 weeks. I started the day with a workout in the garden. We then stripped some of the beds and had lots of laundry to do! We had lunch and then went for a walk down to the lake. Not many people about. Just a few out for a walk but hardly any cars. The police were stopping campervans probably to ask where they have travelled from. You have to stay in the same town during the lockdown. We met an old couple from england who were also stuck here in Taupo. They are staying in a hotel only the two of them. In the afternoon I baked a banana loaf. We enjoyed it with a coffee. I read my kindle for a bit. Ashleigh cooked steak for tea and we enjoyed it with a beer.Baca lagi

  • Day 2 of self isolation

    27 Mac 2020, New Zealand ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

I started the morning with a 30 minute Yoga class on YouTube. We then cleaned the main kitchen. Had to clean the fridges, oven, behind kitchen appliances, microwave, oven vents, bins and food boxes. Also did a massive pile of washing up that the guests had left. We did some washing and will finish off the kitchen tomorow morning.

We then went to countdown supermarket. Only a short que to get in. They had 2m lines marked outside. Just had to get a few toiletries and picked up a bottle of sauvignon blanc. Had to buy something to get through the lockdown. Ashleigh got a bottle of red.

In the afternoon I tried out my new sketch pad and watercolour pencils. Decided to draw some flowers: a rose, daffodil and a bunch of flowers. In the evening we watched a film with some Popcorn.

  • Day 4 of self isolation

    29 Mac 2020, New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

In the morning I went for a 30 minute run next to the Iake. It was a beautiful clear blue sky and very sunny. We then washed more laundry in the hostel (it's never ending)

In the afternoon Ashleigh and I went for a cycle to Acacia bay in Taupo. Acacia Bay is a community on a small inlet on the western shores of Tapuaeharuru Bay. I've been before but Ashleigh hasn't. It's a pretty little peaceful spot by the lake. We relaxed there. I read twenties girl on my kindle and Ashleigh read random a book his dad has written.Baca lagi

  • Day 6 of self isolation

    31 Mac 2020, New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

This morning I couldn't get out of bed, I wasn't feeling very motivated to do anything so decided to have a day off work. I was feeling a little low so decided to do a workout in the garden. Ashleigh did some work in the hostel. In the afternoon we headed to the natural hot springs. Unfortunately the water was very low so we couldn't swim. The police came and spoke to everyone there to say its probably not a good idea to be here. Its a small park so they didn't want people gathering here. It wasn' too busy and we were keeping our distance from everyone. More than 2m..

We decided to leave and walk further up the hill. We relaxed there with a book overlooking the river. We went to the supermarket to see if we could find a rolling pin and cutter to make some Welsh cakes unfortunately countdown didn't have any. We relaxed in the evening watching tv.

Feeling better and more motivated this morning. We did the laundry over in the quarter's and cleaned the lounge and kitchen. We went for a swim in the lake in the afternoon. It was very refreshing. It was 21 degress today. After the swim I went to pack and save to get some essentials and ingredients to make cookies. There was a long que to the other end of the car park! Luckily enough I expected this and bought my kindle to read in the que.

I made chocolate chunk cookies in the evening. Ashleigh and I both enjoyed them with a cup of tea.

  • Day 8 of self isolation

    2 April 2020, New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Today we walked over 13km next to the lake. It was a beautiful warm sunny day. It made us feel grateful to be here during lock down. In the afternoon we relaxed in the garden reading.

We had a bit of an eventful evening! We caught a couple of guys trying to break in underneath the building. We heard a thud so I'm guessing they tried to boot it. We went outside to see what it was and asked what they were doing and they walked off. Hopefully as they know we're here now they won't be coming back. We told our manager who has informed the police. He also tried to go out looking for them. I wish we took a photo at the time! We then walked around the building for security check. We were outside some of the dorm rooms and kept hearing this knocking it was a bit scary we thought someone was in there. It turned out it was a flap in one of the air vents going in the wind upstairs!Baca lagi

We relaxed on the beach by the lake couldn't stay for long because the wind was cold. When we got back we made some Welshcakes. Not as easy as you might think. • We've made it to 2 weeks!

    8 April 2020, New Zealand ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

We didn't do anything exciting today! Weather has been grey and raining most of the day. I did a body balance workout in the morning. I then went to do a small food shop. It took 1 hour and a half from when I left to when I got back. The que was so long today to get in. It was still worth it for the nice couple of bottles of wine I got and Easter baking essentials! In the afternoon I finished reading my book Scars like Wings- definitely recommend this book. In the evening we went for a walk. It was dark but was nice to get out for some fresh air. It gets dark a lot earlier here now, now the clocks have gone back.

Below are a few pictures of the apartment we are staying in as I haven't posted any yet for you guys to see.

  • Day 24 of self isolation

    19 April 2020, New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Getting a bit restless now doing the same thing every day. I thought about doing an online course before but unfortunately we don't have any WiFi anymore :( we just had it for the first 2 weeks of lockdown. Then the company cut it off. We find out on Monday if lockdown goes down to level 3 🤞

Level 3 means takeaways will open but unfortunately not cafes, bars or restaurants. You still can't travel only in your region. You will be allowed to swim and do water sports. We will be allowed to go tramping now. We've wanted to climb Mt Tauhara so hoping we can do that. Schools will open but I think its just for children of essential workers. You can meet people outside your bubble but they've said to keep it small and not congregate in large numbers. Hoping after this if all goes well we will go to level 2.

  • Day 25 of self isolation

    19 April 2020, New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

This afternoon I did a 5k run by the lake to raise money for help the heroes. All proceeds go to NHS Charities Together, who’s mission statement is to support the welfare and the wellbeing of NHS staff as they fight COVID-19.

It was a hilly run. It was not easy. Not my quickest pace but I didn't stop running which was the main thing! I was nominated by my friend Cathy on Instagram. You donate £5 and then nominate 5 friends to do it.

Early evening we went for a walk in the park by the lake it was very peaceful and all the autumn leaves have come out. The colours looked beautiful! The statue is of Sri Chinmoy. He founded the 150 nation Peace Run and dedicated his own life to world peace. Sri Chinmoy visited NZ on four occasions and met successive Prime Ministers, founding a legacy of peace initiatives around the nation. Over 12,000 people attended his many free Peace Concerts in New Zealand. He personally visited Taupo for 12 days in 2002, meeting some of its famous locals including rugby great Colin ‘Pinetree’ Meads.
