  • LA -

    September 10, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

On my second day in L.A., I spent the whole time resting and adjusting, and now I’m finally feeling refreshed and ready to explore this beautiful city.

I had a hot dog at Wurstküche and also made my way to 700 S Flower Street in Downtown L.A., the famous shopping center known as The Bloc. The billboard there is promoting the film "Asteroid City," directed by Wes Anderson.

Standing on that busy Los Angeles street corner,
with a Vans shopping bag in one hand
and your phone raised in the other,
as if trying to capture a fleeting piece of the city's soul —
    for a moment,
travel isn’t just about checking off sights,
but a gentle, intimate conversation with the city’s very breath.

The sun falls softly on your denim jacket,
a light breeze lifts your hair,
and you realize that what you're feeling isn’t just the joy of a new purchase,
    but something deeper:
a chance to rediscover your own rhythm in an unfamiliar place.

It’s about exploring where art meets edge,
and about embracing the freedom and openness of this city even amidst the noise.

The true pulse of LA lies not only in its famous spots,
but in these quiet, everyday moments —
    when you pause,
    smile,
    and press the shutter.

It reminds you that travel, at its heart,
is the quiet art of feeling completely yourself,
    even somewhere new.

    September 11, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

On my third day in Los Angeles, jet lag still lingers. The city’s golden sun pours in through the curtains by nine in the morning, but my body remains in a daze somewhere over the Pacific. So today, instead of venturing out, I spent the whole day lazily lounging at a friend’s house.

We turned the living room into a makeshift theater, watching old movies projected against a white wall, snacking on chips and homemade salsa. In the afternoon, the friends debated whether to try a new hiking trail or drive to the beach—but in the end, we all just stayed sprawled on the sofa, chatting about everything and nothing, letting the hours slip by like the slow, warm California sunlight.

Sometimes travel doesn’t have to be about ticking off checklists. Letting yourself be carried by a friend’s rhythm, drifting through a slow, shared day—it turns out, that’s also a way to truly enter the pulse of a city.

  • J. Paul Getty Museum~✨

    September 12, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

I visited the J. Paul Getty Museum today, and even after returning, my mood still feels wrapped in that gentle, airy white. Riding the tram up the hill, the sounds of the city slowly faded beneath me, as if filtered through a soft sieve.

From the terrace of the main pavilion, I saw the real Irises for the first time. It was different from what I’d imagined—the paint was thickly layered, and Van Gogh’s restlessness and longing seemed to spill from every brushstroke. But when I turned around, Los Angeles lay wide and quiet beneath the floor-to-ceiling glass, so calm and vast. It struck me then that art might be exactly that: a thin, taut line strung between intense emotion and enduring nature.

My favorite corner was the Central Garden. Water flowed softly down the stone steps, and hydrangeas bloomed like clouds fading from one hue into another. An elderly couple sat quietly on a bench, saying nothing, just watching the water move. It reminded me of what you once said—that the most precious moments in travel are often the aimless pauses. In that instant, it felt as if you were right there beside me.

At the bookstore, I flipped through a book about light and shadow in architecture and bought a postcard. I wrote something in pencil on the back, but in the end, I didn’t send it. Some feelings are meant to stay where they were born, like seeds tucked into the soil where they belong.

By the time I rode the tram back down at dusk, the city lights were beginning to glow. A familiar piano piece played through my earphones, and the wind brushed my hair across my face. For a few seconds, I couldn’t tell whether I was a visitor or just another brief, breathing part of this city.

Permanent exhibitions are free to visit, though you’ll need to reserve a timed-entry pass on the official website. Parking costs about $20 per vehicle, with a reduced rate of $15 after 3 PM.

    💡 Did you know?

    J. Paul Getty, the founder, was nicknamed the "billionaire beggar" for his frugal lifestyle, yet he established what became the world’s wealthiest art endowment. The museum operates through the Getty Trust, with assets around $7 billion, and doesn’t rely on government funding. The Getty Villa was originally his private residence and was converted into a museum in 1974.

  • Griffith Observatory~💕

    September 13, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

This time my lens led me to Los Angeles. The world-famous Griffith Observatory is definitely one of LA’s must-visit spots — though I didn’t go inside (I think there’s an admission fee for exhibitions). I arrived a bit late, just as the sun was about to set, so I had to shoot in a rush. Originally, I’d planned to take public transit, but I ended up on the wrong bus for a stretch, so I quickly changed tactics and grabbed an Uber. I’d also thought about hiking up the hill behind for a panoramic shot, but it was already too late. Still, I’m glad I managed to capture the last of the sunset and the beautiful blue hour after dusk. If you drive, you’ll need to park in the mid-hill lot and either walk or hop on the DASH shuttle to reach the top. The day I went, I booked an Uber for about 30 miles, which cost around $40 and took an hour — totally worth it in my opinion. Getting dropped right at the summit is definitely the most convenient option. For public transit, you can take the metro to Vermont/Sunset station, where the DASH shuttle stops nearby. When I came down from the observatory, the shuttle was free. Now about the photos — the night view is absolutely stunning. Silhouettes against the blue hour just after sunset are simply breathtaking. For night shots, I’d suggest bringing a mini tripod to get clearer long exposures without cranking up the ISO too high. Otherwise, you can place your camera on the viewing platform for a steady shot, though the angle will be fixed. There are plenty of great spots perfect for portrait shots too. All in all, Griffith Observatory is totally worth the visit. Even after a day of intense California sunshine, the evening light left behind the softest, most gentle glow.
    📍 2800 E Observatory Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90027
Tip: Consider booking an Uber in advance — it’s often cheaper, and it takes you straight to the top.

  • Next stop: Bali.

    September 15, 2023 in Indonesia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Since I had to transfer anyway, I decided to extend my layover and spent a full day in Kuala Lumpur—giving myself time to adjust to the time zone and slow down the pace. Even while traveling, it’s nice to let the rhythm soften a little. Sometimes a brief pause is all you need to set off again feeling refreshed.Read more

  • Villa Air Bali Boutique Resort & Spa ~💕

    September 16, 2023 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

I fell in love with my first stay the moment I arrived, so my very first #EstherInBali post is a recommendation for a pool villa! This is Villa Air Bali Pool Villa Resort in Seminyak ⛲️. It’s cozy, quiet, and private—and most importantly, the whole resort is infused with that rich Balinese vibe.

The pool, living area, and bedroom are all separate, and for breakfast you get three choices: floating breakfast, in‑room breakfast, or breakfast at the restaurant—you can pick depending on your mood that day 😝. I kept hesitating between the InterContinental and this place, but now I’m so incredibly glad I chose this one. I’ve only been in Bali for half a day, and I can’t stop saying, “I’m so happy!”

  • Stealing a quiet day in Bali, just for myself.

    September 17, 2023 in Indonesia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

The past few days I’ve felt like a migratory bird chasing time zones, but today I’ve finally learned how to be a truant from time itself.

Slow down, and the world will start whispering its secrets to you.

If a packed itinerary is the thread, then today is the deliberate gap left in between—the breathing space. I’m not here to tick boxes or chase check-ins; I’m here to remember: the sound of wind slipping through banyan leaves, the little lizard by the pool that seemed to peek at my journal, and the extra dish of spicy sambal the server quietly placed on my table. These moments are like scattered spices, slowly simmering into the very essence of the journey.

Tomorrow I may wander to the shore to watch the sunset, but right now, all I want is to slowly savor this glass of fresh orange juice.

It turns out that real travel means allowing yourself to “waste” a whole day—to discover the kind of joy that doesn’t require rushing anywhere at all.

  • Nook Umalas~🍽

    September 18, 2023 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Seminyak is such a peaceful and serene place! The restaurant sits right in the middle of the rice fields. The roast suckling pig and fried rice were both delicious, but my personal favorite was the açai bowl. My outfit even matched the colors of the fields perfectly… 🌾🍃

A ginger‑striped cat stepped across the sun‑scorched stone stairs, its tail swaying like a slow pendulum. It bent down, its pink tongue just touching the surface of the pool water, and as the ripples spread, the whole world seemed to fall quiet.

The heat had turned time thick and syrupy; even the breeze was dozing off among the coconut fronds.

A server walked by holding an iced coconut and said with a smile, “He’s the boss here—comes every day to collect his ‘water tax.’”
We both laughed. On this island, even the cats understand what people often forget: the heat isn’t an enemy, but a reason to pause.

    September 19, 2023 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

This is the perfect spot to witness a sunset you'll remember for a lifetime, with the view unfolding in real time… 💛🌴
    Canggu Beach Club ⛵️

There are many beach clubs in Bali, but we heard La Brisa is one of the very best for views, so we made the trip all the way from Seminyak to Canggu 🛵.

If you're heading to a beach club, booking ahead is essential.
To get a good spot for sunset, a reservation is an absolute must 🫡
(I almost missed the sunset myself once because I didn't book…).
