    A one night stop in Cologne to see Tanna and Naomi who’ve been our friends all through high school. They moved here at the start of the year ! Very nice to see two familiar faces and we miss them lots.
    We travelled to Amsterdam with Naomi this morning (Thursday) and missed our first train oops because they split -a few carriages to Brussels, a few to Amsterdam, but we got a later one so it was all okay ! Honestly surprised this hasn’t happened yet - it also almost happened going back from Copenhagen to Cologne 😬 which would have been worse so it was better it happened today :)    Leggi altro

    Amsterdam

    Here is some from the last few days ! Amsterdam is very pretty. We did a lot of walking in circles as our data wasn’t working well but it seeing the same streets and canals a few time wasn’t bad on the eyes so just our legs.
    We got a pic with Jacky and saw an Australian street performer swallow a sword which was a little bit gross. We went to a book exchange and spent time looking through the 5 different rooms of books they had. And we went out for a bit after dinner :)    Leggi altro

    Switzerland🇨🇭

    We caught an overnight train to Switzerland which got delayed 3 hours ! That’s okay though as we were too tired to do much that afternoon anyway. We are staying at Adrian and Wylinn’s home, who are away on a bike trip right now.

    Our first day here, we had planned to go to the Alps but may have slept for about 14 hours so went and got some cherries 🍒 as there is a 2 week cherry season here and they were the best juiciest most delicious cherries I ever did have mm mm. We then went to the lake which had the prettiest view and went for a swim which felt amazing because we had not been (and we both are definitely beach girls, I do not know how we have been coping) for about 2 weeks. We have plans to find a swimming pool in Rome.

    Anyway, then we planned to get a spritz at the restaurant next to the lakeee but it then started pouringgg ! So we made juice with some frozen berries (thank you Adrian and Wylinn for keeping us fruitfully hydrated👍) and sat on the balcony drinking them :)

    Sorry for the long captionnnbut the day after that Sara went back to Rome and we caught the bus to Zug station together and we have been together for 6 weeks straight so that was a bit weird 🤓
    But I then went to the Home of Chocolate Lindt Museum - in year 2 a few of us were in a year 2 and 3 class so when the year 3s went to sport we would be left behind. So, during this time, Ms Parry would do art with us and we did a term long project on chocolate. We have a little art book that we stuck in different cocoa nibs and powders and drew / painted / wrote about how it is made and it’s history. So going to this museum and reading the displays I felt like was just a revisit into that classroom on the top floor haha. Anyway they gave up some free chocolate and I was fending for myself for the week so I tucked some in for home :)

    Old Town

    I went to Landesmuseum which had an exhibition called ‘I’m Wald’ about the History of Switzerland forests and lots of art about sustainability , climate change and climate change protestors and recent events.
    There was an Anne Frank exhibition that I saw as well.
    I went around old town and found a cute park with a really nice view- people were sitting off the ledge of the wall and you could see the whole of the Limmat river which was so so pretty. The streets and buildings were also really nice 😊:)))    Leggi altro

    THE SWISS ALPS !

    So I got myself over to the mountains ! I was worried about the trains getting there but I managed pretty well🤞
    The train ride to Grindelwald was like nooo otherrrr. I have decided that this blue is my favourite colour. I sat next to a girl from Vietnam who was travelling with another Vietnamese girl that she had met by talking in Vietnamese on the phone and they had been together for the last 3 days. Her name is Khanh and she was doing uni on exchange in Madrid and we chatted the whole train ride.
    I was trying to ask the lady in the seat opposite me something so I asked if she spoke English and she said no but then started talking to me in English so I was so so confused. When she got off, Khanh proceeded to tell me that I had actually asked her if I she spoke German. Welp 🙊
    Anyway I caught the gondola up to Maennlichen and took a quick selfie because I was the only one in it and it’s not everyday you can get a photo with such ginormous mountains. I hope the gondola camera security people enjoyed watching me hold on when I went over the bumpy bits 🥰
    There were some cute cows with bells that rang when they moved and then quite a big cow as the kids playground.
    I walked from Maennlichen about an hour and a half to Kleine Scheidegg and I saw a group of 3 walkers ( who turned out to be from England and one had a daughter living in Melbourne) trying to take a self timer photo with Mount Eiger (and it was not working for them) so I offered to get one for them. They then snapped this shot of me , so here I am with Mount Eiger !
    Then also the same with these 2 girls when I walked into a cute viewpoint hut at Kleine Scheidegg, so here is me in my blue raincoat and backpack- and then a selfie with my blue bucket hat to match💙 no I did not bring any other clothes as my brain didn’t really register that it was in the mountains, there was snow, and so it would be cold? Very luckily I had a completely funny day until I got onto my train home !
    I have also added some more cows for your enjoyment (make sure to imagine the bells ringing when they move). And then here are some more pics on the train ride down to Lauterbrunnen ;))    Leggi altro

    Trümmelbachfälle and last🇨🇭day🥺

    This is a long one, so you really don’t have to read. The pictures say enough 🤞❤️ I have started to use this app honestly as a diary of the things that have happened on my trip so I can look back at it and the photos that match the stories :)

    When I got to Lauterbrunnen from the top of the mountain I walked to a waterfall and you took a lift in a tunnel up and got to see different pats of the fall. At the top , there was a huge amount of water coming out and it was so fast. It sprayed onto you when you leaned over the tunnel (it was inside and lit up by lights and a small bit of natural light from parting in the rocks above it) and so I wore my rain jacket so I could go closer. It was so so loud you could hear it from ages away. I got some cute older people who I caught the lift up to the top with to take a picture for me so here I am with a bit of the waterfall next to me !
    On the bus back we passed a restaurant that was chilling drinks in a little stream which was very cute and smart.

    It had been sunny all day which was amazing (as this was the same day as the other hike) and so it started pouring on the train back. My train to Zug got cancelled, then the next train stopped before Zug because a tent had fallen onto the tracks in the wind. All of this was told to me over the loud speaker in German but I have become quite good at realising something is wrong when the people around me start sighing or walking away from the platform or looking up other train timetables. Everyone is really nice and most people speak English so I asked the lady who was doing a sudoku next to me what the speaker had said and she told me we all had to get a bus !

    Another girl then overheard me saying I was going to Zug and said she was too so we caught the replacement bus together. She was really sweet and told me about how she grew up in Germany but her dad was from Dubai and her mum from India, and she told me about how she found it living there as a resident and how she had moved to Switzerland so she would have more freedom and to be able to work. She told me about her cat too who is apparently a deva and how her husband got another cat because he was jealous and his cat is quite the gentlemen. Anyway , it was really late by the time we got there but she walked me to my bus stop because she was going a similar way so that all made the trip quite fun even though it took me 5 hours to get home instead of about half that.

    I didn’t do much yesterday (the 24th). It rained all day so I FaceTimed some friends and fam, watched some tv and tidied up to pack my bags. There was also some sort of plane show that happened during me eating my lunch so that was pretty cool (a bit scary at first- it was so loud and seemed unusual because all of the neighbours were taking photos) but I later saw a sign about some sort of plane festival so I guess I just got a sneak peak <3
    The sun came out in the afternoon and so I went on a walk in both directions around the lake at the perfect time to see the sun making the trees and buildings and windows and water golden. It was so beautiful. The photos are in the second half of this post :)

    This morning I went for a very early swim in the lake and the water was warmer than the air. It was so so luvlyyyy. Then I packed my bags and got on the train to Milano Centrale to then go to Rome again. I will miss Switzerland a lot and will most definitely come back 🤞🌼    Leggi altro

    Pompeii

    Went to Pompeii ! Was super hot and humid - we went and had a siesta after. Got a bit lost trying to find the ash covered bodies but finally found them in the museum room at the end. It’s crazy to see this place that was a whole city such a long time ago. They were doing quite a bit of excavation work so some bits were blocked off :( - but there was a new house that had only been recovered in 2018 whose walls were filled with art so maybe there is more they will find 🤷🏼‍♀️

    We stayed in the cute caravan park in a cabin next to the Pompeii train station and so our whole room rumbled when trains would go past. It was really good place to stay to do day trips in Napoli and very cheap :)    Leggi altro

    Capri

    Went to Capri. It was beautiful. Got limoncello slushies as we should. And Caprese paninis. The water was very blue. Quite warm too. Streets were very pretty. Hill walk to top was very hot. Dipped into water many times. Will remember this day well.Leggi altro

    Back for a bit in Roma

    Before and after Napoli we stayed in Rome. We saw Charlie and Dash - our close friends from high school and who are travelling during uni holidays. We saw a little cat shelter while with them and got dinner at a that was close but far enough away from the Colosseum that it was a more local restaurant.

    After Napoli we came back and stayed at Pietro’s while he was away and also spent a night at Sara’s Nonna’s. We looked after his cat. His cat is a diva. It woke us up at 5am and it’s meows sounded like it was dying. We have a deep love for this cat but we absolutely despise it. It has huge yellow eyes that stare deep into your soul. I went to the bathroom and had to wash my hands in the kitchen because it wouldn’t get out of the bathroom sink. We do miss it now we are gone though.

    We saw Elena- another girl from school (yes everyone is currently in Europe- we ran into two girls we knew completely by accident on the street). She is Italian too and Sara grew up with her. We went to a swimming pool to see her and it was so nice to do some laps and be in the water.

    We walked into a musical one night and watched for a bit and then I have added a photo from when we were in Rome at the start of our trip and Elisa Blu did our makeup. Then there are also some pictures of her trying to kill us last night. Io morta !

    I’ve also put in a FaceTime screenshot with Rusty who I miss a lot.

    The heat in here has been insaneee. We thought we were just being weak until we heard Pietro tell us that it’s the hottest Rome has been for a hundred years. It’s 39 degrees today and some train routes were closed because of fires so it’s completely opposite here to Sydney .. you can really see how happy I am walking around with my bag.     Croatia 🇭🇷

    We went to Croatia! The first night we watched the sunset and went for a little swim and the water was so so so nice. It is so beautiful here.

    The next day we explored old town because it rained and we went to a Salvador Dali exhibition- which had an Alice in Wonderland series, a Horses series a biblical series and one other one about a battle. It was very cool art and I had studied him last year for school so good to see in real life.

    Old town was cool and had lots of stray cats around which were very cute and let you go quite close to them <3    Leggi altro

    More from Dubrovnik

    It is so beautiful here. The 1st and 4th picture is the view from our hostel balcony at sunset. The others are from around the coast. Sara is so strong that she took the hinges off of her locker 💪🏽 :). We got the best yoghurt for brekkie from the cafe next to the hostel and went back there every morning for the same thing. The waitress was so nice and by the end of our 3 day stay she literally just knew our order.

    We went to Bellevue beach and did some rock jumps and went back there everyday. The water was so salty so you could just float and was quite cold actually. We got a FaceTime from Rosa (- the girl from Copenhagen who is in Sydney to right now with Scout who is about to fly to Europe) while we were at the beach so that was funny timing and weird to see her at home.

    The two people working at the hostel were actually doing a workaway where they would stay for free and then work 5 hours a day at the hostel. They were from Poland and had been here a month. They were so nice and fun to be with so we spent sometime with them and now have someone to see if we ever go there ! They introduced us to the stray cat living next to the hostel who they named Otto and told us about his girlfriend too.

    The hostel had no kitchen for guests but they did for the workers so that night they invited us to have dinner with them and a guy from Malaysia - Faris who was very nice and made us Malaysian porridge. Kasia and I chopped up the vegetables and Faris cooked. It was very yummy and we all sat around talking and telling stories :)    Leggi altro

    Korčula island

    We caught a 2 hour ferry from Dubrovnik to Korčula island. I think it was where Marco Polo was born or grew up or something. It is a beautiful island and we had the best two days there :)

    We went swimming and Sara was climbing up the ladder and the screws were loose so she fell back into the water while still holding on. It was hilarious and she was okay. We had no idea what to do with the ladder after though , that sought of thing has not been very common to happen to us. Then , not even 10 minutes I jumped on a sea urchin so I’ve been putting my foot in vinegar since being back at Sara’s Nonna’s today and yesterday. Quite an eventful swim. But the water was so so nice. Very salty too.

    We met with our two friends we’ve known since high school (but from a different schools) and we hung out with them the whole time. There is a blurry photo of us because it was a Live Photo and I had to freeze it. We all just laughed the entire trip.

    We had the longest day getting back because we read the ferry time wrong and missed it , so missed our flight and then had to get another flight (rip my savings and the hours I worked for that) and that one got delayed by 5 hours. So much went wrong that day that we could only laugh so we spent the whole day so tired and completely delirious.    Leggi altro

    Leaving Roma😓

    Today I am going to France to work ! - via Lugano for 3 nights and then meeting Scout in Paris for 4 nights :) … and then I will finally head to Luz , south of Toulouse to work haha.

    Sara and I have been travelling together for 2 and a half months now so it will be weird separated :/

    Lake Lugano

    I took the train to Lugano and am staying at a cute hostel. Shops weren’t open on Sunday 🙄 so I had to buy dinner and found some pizza al taglio and ate in front of the lake where there was some festival with quite weird shouty music but with the prettiest sunset <3Leggi altro

    Monte Brè

    Popped on the hiking boots and went up to Monte Brè on a funicular and did a walk to Alpe Bolla. I went with Sofia who is from Finland and we had met that morning and got things for breakfast at the supermarket so left quite late. She was quite speedy up the hills and I thought I was quite a good hill walker but I got a bit showed up. I always blame it on the asthma though x

    For me hiking is like eating veggies as a kid- I used to complain so much but I actually really like it now 🙄🥰

    Then we went swimming in the lake. It was way less saltier than Croatia so it was weird to actually have to swim to stay afloat but being back in after such a tiring walk was the only thing that got me home.

    My body is quite sore but I had a good day :)

    Lucarno Lake

    I had a slow morning and went to the pharmacy for my urchin cuz my toe was hurtin and my dad also made me. Then took a pretty train ride to Lake Locarno and went swimminggggg. Water was warm and the mountains surrounded the whole lake so very beautifullll.

    Was in the hostel kitchen about to cook dinner this mum came in and asked if I wanted the rest of her risotto for dinner because she had made to much. Free meal and didn’t have to eat tomato pasta for the second night in a row :) Travel tip : start to cook at the end of fam dinner time. Time ranges between 7-8pm.

    I did quite the well done packing job on my bag so quite proud of myself for that one. (The standard for packing is quite low since I’ve added my hiking boots).

    I’m on da train 2day to Paris🥖💋💅 In Strasbourg rn💪🏼

    Paris 🇫🇷

    First night in Paris !
    Big day on the train but my hostel was very social so went straight to dinner and had splurged a bittt with my new friends trying some snails that mmm were so good.
    Then me and Bryn shared a main to save some $$
    We all went to the Eiffel Tower and saw it sparkleee and of course had to do the classic bridge tourist shot 🤓
    I left with some girls at the tower who were going back to the hostel because the rest of my friends were going out but I was tired from the trains.
    Next morning I wake up and see Niamh who I had met at the Eiffel Tower come into the room with a huge bandage on the middle finger and looking like she was about to burst into tears. Poor girl had been on an electric scooter and somehow had fallen off and it had then somehow ran over her finger which a piece of is now forever in front of the Eiffel Tower. I had just met her an hour before this happened.
    She had been at the emergency room all night alone and was about to go to surgery and the pharmacy alone so I went with her. She learnt French at school so new a bit so I couldn’t really help out much but on the hospital papers I am her cousin so please welcome her to the fam xx but the moral support was all there. I will visit her in Scotland sometime during my trip I hope.
    Pranked mum with the hospital selfies and questions about insurance so we had a giggle while we were waiting. Big day. She had a yellow hand after surgery from the amnesia so got a few curious looks. Forever flipping us off ;)

    Scout had flown in and was at the hostel so got a very excited photo sent to me too and then on the way back from the hospital we were both walking along the canal and I see scout walking towards us (unplanned) and for a second I didn’t know it was her but then she saw me and we ran so fast and had a big hug and that was so nice to see my lovelyyy best franddd again after 2 whole months :)))) 🥰🥰🥰    Leggi altro

    Luz

    So you can only add 10 photos now to find penguins unless u buy premium. So if anyone is dying for content (not that I’ve been posting very consistently sorry) then I will be accepting donations to fund this ! Kidding. (Unless,..) I will adapt to this and maybe just post more small posts. 😬🥹

    Here is the start of my month in Luz. I caught the overnight train from Paris which this time I actually had a bed ! I was in the middle of a 3 layer bunk bed and I taught 3 of the people how to play go fish so we had a game before bed.

    Then I took the bus from Lourdes to Luz (I actually went too far and had to get picked up so have actually been to Bagues now) and the bottom right guy caught the bus too so helped me get onto the right ones as he spoke French. He was about to go on a 10 day hike alone so quite the trip.

    I am staying with Sian, Laurent and one of their sons Jaques (the other Aiden lives on campus at Sydney uni right now), and I’m sleeping in Jaques bed - he is in the attic of the hotel for August😬 but apparently this happens every year for him when Sian’s friends daughters come to stay.

    On the first day I had lunch with them at Laurent’s uncle and aunts house (Tati and Tonton) and also his dad (Papau). They were very sweet.

    Luz is so beautiful and I went to the Château (castle) that is a 20 minute walk. It’s a very cute town.    Leggi altro

    Workin girl

    Peep the first pic is me with the mayor of Luz! There was a ceremony in the square ( which the kitchen window of their apparement overlooks) that the mayor had to do a speech at with lots of important army people dressed up. So when Laurent had put his fancy attire on he told me this doesn’t happen often so said this was my only chance to get a proper photo with the mayor. So as he is the mayor we got a quick photo outside the hotel. Haha.

    I worked my first day the day after I arrived and have been doing a big mixture of ironing, washing, cleaning rooms, making beds, vacuuming, helping at the bar, and a bunch of other stuff. We all just kind of do everything.

    There are some other girls my age who I work with and they are all very sweet and we have lots of fun. They all speak a bit of English so we communicate with a bit of words with a bit of exaggerated expressions and charades actions sometimes but they are so funny and some of the things they say in English are just hilarious. I’ve been learning my way around the laundry room as we have made a deal that I help them improve their English and they help me learn French so we have made a vocab list. They know more English than I know French so I try to practice more when I have free time. Gosh I wish I learnt a language in school 🙄🤓

    The hotel is has very pretty views from the windows and the apartment in Les Templiers (they have two hotels - Les Sims and Les Templiers, 2 doors down from each other) is so so nice. We saw some cute birds too. In the photo is Emma and Laurine at Les Sims <3    Leggi altro

    Gettin in the groove of Luz

    Here is quite the collection. Emma and I went to the swimming pool between work :) we work 4 hours in the morning (8:30-12:30) and then 3 at night (6pm-9pm).
    Then there is the absolute ugliest bed we have ever made with Lise (she speaks the most English and we spend lots of time together at the Bar at night). Sorry to those customers 🥴🤢🤮
    Then there is my hotel brekkie and my hotel dinner - I have been eating a lot of toast with stuff of in - August is super busy so this is Sian’s diet and now mine too.

    Then here is a FaceTime with Jade and frankie when the time difference finally was okay.. they were just up late I think.

    This is Leenon , when she, Jaques and I got pizza and watched and movie and also got candy from the markets in the square that come every Friday and Monday. Thennnn here is a pretty view from my Saturday work- with an English guy cleaning apartments. Got my first paycheckkkk and ooo it feels good to have money coming in and not just going out 😊😎

    And then also the river in town.

    And lastttt to #keepitrealwithyouguys here is a picture I sent Scout while having a meltdown xx clearly wasn’t that funny at the time but quite the laugh to look back on. Glad I saved the photo. I’m completely fine though. I have quite a few of these in my camera roll.
    Super overtired and slept in until 11am on my rest day only to then have a 4 hour nap after lunch. :)    Leggi altro

    First Fet

    There are lots of little towns near Luz and each has a town Fet each year , usually in summer where there is fireworks , a DJ and lots of people of all ages , many family’s and reminds me of the Christmas carols at home .
    My first Fet was in Esterre , the town next to Luz and the fireworks for this one were the best of all the Fets I went to this trip. The DJ played we are the champions during it so I found it pretty funny this happened in a small French town with only some English speakers haha.
    We went to Jaques papaus for lunch and he had the most amazing view over the valley.
    There are markets on Monday morning and so Lise and I went for a walk around and got some brekkie from the Boulangerie too.
    I’ve been trying to make a memory album on the go so I spent an afternoon sticking things I’ve collected in :)    Leggi altro

    Medieval festival

    When in the south of France …
    There is a annual medieval festival held at the castle a 20 minute walk from where I’m staying. It used to be a proper castle and had heaps of market stalls and there were more people here on this day than usual. There were also spectacles of flame throwing and juggling, of horse riding where they then had to break each other’s sticks (we learnt about this in history but I forgot the name of this sport) and archery too. There was also a ‘royal family’ that was all dressed up and got front row seats.

    Cirque de Gavarnie

    Last year , Aurelie stayed here and did what I am doing now - working for summer while staying in Jaques room and this weekend she came back with her family to visit. She’s from Belgium and we all went out together the night she came and then the next day I went with her and her family to Gavarnie , a not too long drive. We all had a picnic and then her step dad stayed with his friend to play music together and her sister stayed too because she had fractured her ankle. So Aurelie , her mum and I went for a 3 hour round walk and stopped to see a beautiful view of the waterfall and then sat by the lake with freezing water :)
    It was so beautiful here and on our way back horses came down the path and started grazing .    Leggi altro

    Lac Des Gloriettes

    Today we (Stan from Belgium and Lise from Luz) went for a hike and did a walk loop and then came back to swim in the Dam lake. So so cold oh my. But so beautiful and had a little waterfall and a rock where we jumped into the little pool from.
    We left early this morning to avoid people but it wasn’t too busy anyway as it’s the end of the season.
    Stan’s lunch was a baguette which he bought for lunch everyday at work and a saucisson and he held them in two hands for efficiency.
