Luigi’s Church, eats and more Elisa Blu

    May 26, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

After seeing the Pantheon, I went to Luigi Francescos church. Mario could make it but I thought Luigi did a good job as the main character for once. It was very pretty and lots of things were covered in gold. The detail all over its inside was quite nice and I could stare at it for hours. I actually did sit down and stare at it for quite a while. There were some school groups and some youngsters who talked quite a lot so got shushed by the megaphone which got progressively more passive aggressive. There’s only so loud you can go when shushing though so I think they got a bit louder but also came with a bit more intensity each time.

I saw a cute ferry going under the bridge I was walking on across the Trastevere (which me and sara sigh when we find out we have to go to when we plan to go places- refer to the steps that are currently the bane of our existence in the 2nd and 3rd last slide (the pictures don’t even begin to do the stairs justice though)), and when stopping to take the photo I noticed just how many tourists I was surrounded by as 3 other people/ couples also stopped to take one.

Sara and I got lunch with her Nonna and her Nonna’s niece so here are some photos of the restaurant and our food that I guarantee is better that the food you are having for dinner. Sorry. I have also included photos of our lunch today to reinstate that fact. Sorry. Today, we had this lunch with Susannah and she showed us her (or I think her husbands) art studio which was so so cool. They do stop motions and some more cartoony works and teach at the illustration school down the street. She is a children’s book author and we saw one of the ones she had written in the book store also down the street. They are preparing for a art festival coming up just after we leave :(( at the start of June and the photos from the one they were part of before covid looked amazing.

Last but very not least, here is a photo of Elisa Blu’s drawing she did last night. It is her with her boyfriend kissing. She is 5. She told us about him at dinner. Pietro was not impressed 🤌 I read her (or tried to read her) a picture book. Something about the fact that she can’t read and I can’t speak Italian worked quite well when I tried to pronounce certain words. For the most part, we pointed at animals and colours and went from there. I guess we both taught each other 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Borghese 🏠⛲️

    May 28, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

From the last few days. This is mostly Borghese content — a smaller but very beautiful museum in what I guess would be similar to the botanical gardens. I tried again taking a selfie with one of the statues and I think the resemblance is a bit closer than of the last one ‘Bontemps’. I will keep trying until I find the perfect match. There is then some photos of the Trevi fountain, still veryyy busy even though it was quite late as we walked back from the Borghese. I also got a gelato on the way back :)

The last two pictures are from breakfast and lunch we got from 1 of the 3 or 4 pastry shops down the street. The mushroom circle sandwich was my fav.

    Last nights in Roma

    May 29, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Here are some more from the Borghese… I think I looked a lil more like this lady than the statue from a previous post so I thought I would share.

We then went to a pretty roof top for dinner and then saw Emiliano again and I picked some flowers 🌸 and they looked very pretty on Emiliano- really brought out his eyes.

We did a final washing load (we are very clean ladies) and then went out for dinner with Elisa Blu and Pietro, where we got Trapassini and they were so so soooo good. Pietro gave us a last car ride tour around before we had to wake up early so we catch the train to Florence. 🦋🤘⛲️🌸🎒💚🥰🤓🤌

  • Day 21

    Il Duomo

    May 30, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

    Welcome to Florence ⛲️🖤
So we caught the train in the morning and got to our hostel, dropped our bags in their room because it wasn’t check in time yet and then went to get some lunch. We got focaccia’s and baby carrots from the Pam and ate them at a piazza.
We checked into our hostel which we may or may not have accidentally booked for the 29th and 30th nights instead of our actual dates; the 30th and 31st. Oops. But it ended up being okay because the lady was really nice. We did book it while we were very jet-lagged so will try to not do that again.
Then we walked really fast to the Duomo because that made us a bit late and we walked up the 400 and something stairs pretty fast and I mustered up the courage to ask the security guard to take a photo of us, who then told us he would take few so we could change poses 💅
We then saw him later the next day when we went to get dinner. I hope he gets paid good.
Sara took a few of me too but some came out a bit blurry. Maybe it was the stairs. The view was very pretty though. And the art inside the dome was very cool. The longer you stared at it the more weird some of the demons looked.

    Uffizi

    May 31, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Here is some pics from the Uffizi gallery (a week late sorry). We listened to a Rick Steves podcast during our walk around. By the end, our little Uffizi’s hurt.
We saw Venus and Sara documented a cute photo of everyone taking photos of her- this scene is actually seen quite often, and sara has taken to taking even photos of me taking photos (she has quite the compilation now). I will try to find some to post. It’s a good thing I have find penguins to post these as I’m sure there are photos of everything I have taken photos of already on the internet. We did mostly just look around though.
At the end I have also included another statue selfie for everyone xx

  • Day 23

    Last of Florence

    June 1, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

We stayed with very sweet hostel friends. One was from Argentina and one from Toulouse in France where I am going in July! We stayed up late talking and then had to go to sleep because Sara and I had an early train to Venice.
Next is a view of our hostel roof where we had a coffee, then a FaceTime with Scout where I am clearly getting some good gossip from home (kidding ) and then a gelato and then we had butter chicken for dinner which was so so good. Don’t judge this cuisine choice I know we are in Italy xx
I have also captured a replica of David at his fountain and Sara and I have definitely learnt that he got his glute muscles purely from the amount of stairs in Italy. There was also a water fountain that had sparkling water but it was quite acidic.
There is more photos from the Uffizi too. I like the disco move.

    Venice day 1

    June 1, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Here is our first day in Venice. We love it.
We had the most amazing Brie and prosciutto sandwiches on the train and then a weird but intriguing pistachio croissant which we don’t regret but wouldn’t go for again. Then here are some pretty views.Read more

    Susan Weiss in Venice

    June 2, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Susan Weiss was French but moved to Italy and was a photographer while her husband was a painter. She made this big exhibition with all of her and some of his work when she was quite old so has since passed but sara and I loved it a lot. She travelled a lot for her work to do shoots for magazines and brands, but in the documentary of her, she said she had most fun photographing more candid moments🤗
I’ve put a few in here as well as the street we walked down to get out from our accomodation, another picture of the green croissant, some views of the gallery which was so pretty in itself and a sneaky selfie in the bathroom, just for your enjoyment :))

    MoMA in Venice

    June 2, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Here is some more art for ya ! First pic is on our way to the gallery ( we thought we were almost there at this stage but were actually heading on a massive detour ), but walking around all the streets was nice 👍
The modern gallery had some weird art in there if I do say so myself and at times we found ourselves a little spooked. Please refer to slide 18 :/

    A boat ! In Venice !

    June 2, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

This was the same day as the last 2 posts but I decided it needed it’s only special recognition as I think it was one of the best days of my actual life. Saras family friend who we are staying with owns the boat and took us around in the canals and on a little tour. His little girl Gemma came with us and steered for a bit too :)
Sara and I may have gotten another gelato with them after we had had one on the way to the MoMA for lunch because we were late, and had a coffee drink that was basically gelato too, so our stomached that night lived a bit to regret that one (even though 3 gelatos in a day is every kids dream , it would have paid to have an adult looking after us, but we are learning our own lessons the hard way)🥰
Anyway, we got African food for dinner at a cute local place and opted for some veggies :) and then here is the sunset (only setting at about 10pm) while waiting for the ferry home <3
