    Gumbo Shop

    March 18, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Was on my way to a fancier dinner when I passed this little place near Jackson Square. Gumbo was on my list of things I had to try, and Yelp gave this place decent reviews. I decided to deviate from my original plan and give it a try.

I ordered the Chicken and Andouille Gumbo with a Hurricane (another must try). It came out in less than 5 minutes with a side of bread. The gumbo was good, and the soft bread was great for dipping. The Hurricane was ridiculously sweet and very strong. I ended up taking most of it to go so I could sip it as I strolled around the French Quarter.

  • Jackson Square

    March 18, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

One of the most photographed and iconic places in Nee Orleans, Jackson Square is a big part of the city’s history. The park was filled with tourists and street vendors. Bagpipes played in the background. It was the perfect spot to sit on a bench and read as the energy of the city surrounded me.Read more

  • Ruby Slipper Cafe

    March 18, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌫 20 °C

I was super excited when I found out that this restaurant was next door to my hotel. This shows up on a lot of lists of places to have breakfast. I was up early and decided to give it a try.

They are well-known for their Bananas Foster French Toast so it didn’t take me a ton of time to place my order. I was not disappointed! It was overflowing with bananas soaked in a sweet syrupy sauce. The bacon provided the perfect bit of savoriness to offset the sweetness of the French Toast. This is a must try when in New Orleans!Read more

  • Bourbon Street

    March 17, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

When I booked my trip, I had no idea it fell over St. Patties Day weekend. I’m not a big drinker but decided to explore the craziness of Bourbon Street on the biggest drinking day of the year.

Wow. It was crazy. I was the only one on the street not wearing green and not carrying a drink. I managed to make it up and down the street once before bailing out and heading back to my room. It was an interesting experience that I’m happy to never have again!

  • Killer PoBoys

    March 17, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

Dinner tonight was my first sampling of one of New Orleans’ famous eats! I chose the BBQ Chicken Confit...chicken smothered in coffee barbecue sauce, ranch slaw and red onions stuffed inside a deliciously soft hoagie roll.

    It was messy but delicious!

  • New Orleans City Park

    March 17, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

I had an hour to kill before returning my rental car. City Park was on my list of places to visit, and it was an easy detour on the way to the airport. It’s one of the nation’s oldest urban parks dating back to 1854. It is almost like stepping back into time with the massive oak trees that are close to 1,000 years old.

I was able to take a few photos before a crazy rainstorm forced me back to the car.

  • Mississippi

    March 17, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Landed in New Orleans around 12:30am on Saturday. Picked up my rental car and drove the 45 minutes to a little town called Slidell. I opted for a Motel 6 since I only needed a room for a few hours. It wasn’t 4 star lodging but it did the job.

The time difference had me up early so I had plenty of time to hit the Mississippi line before checking into my 9:30am swamp tour. I drove across the state line, spent a few minutes taking a photo and left. Hey...it counts as being in the state so I can officially cross it off my list!
