    Cap Gris Nez

    17 de junio de 2018, Francia ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

After leaving Rouen we had about 2 hours in total to the EuroTunnel terminal so we stopped off about 20 minutes short for a brief and very windy walk to Cap Gris Nez a few miles west of Calais. Despite the wind we spotted a grey seal in the sea and a Montagu’s Harrier from the approach road. What a great place to cap off a lovely week away!Leer más

  • Rouen

    16 de junio de 2018, Francia ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

After a couple of hours driving, and a couple of breaks in the aires for drink and a picnic we arrived in Rouen. Roadworks made us detour to a different car park but a short walk later we were in our hotel. Our room was on the 4th floor and had a spectacular view of the old court building. We went for a walk around the old medieval town and stopped off for galettes in a well reviewed creperie. We’ve enjoyed Rouen each time we have been and should spend longer next time.Leer más

  • Grebe avec le cou noir

    14 de junio de 2018, Francia ⋅ 🌧 16 °C

We returned to the Parc de la Brenne for more brilliant bird watching yesterday. Highlights included a night heron and watching some baby purple herons in their nest... but by far the best half hour was spent watching some black necked grebes feeding their babies. The young wait at the surface while the parents dive down for some food, and then pop up to their excited and hungry chick whom they feed immediately. When done with feeding the babies climb on their parents’ back and hitch a lift. Absolutely delightful. The afternoon involved more swimming, ping pong and naps xLeer más

  • Venice Verte

    13 de junio de 2018, Francia ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Wednesday was a brilliant day :-) we got up and drove two hours to france’s ‘green venice’... a wetland/ canal complex which you can explore by boat. We hired a two-person boat for 3 hours and had the best time... we saw coypu and some great birds and we had a spectacular picnic sitting in the sunshine. In the three hours we only passed one other boat... so we really had the place to ourselves. After a quick ice cream and a drink we drove home and spent the afternoon swimming, playing ping pong and crocheting! XLeer más

  • National Park La Brenne

    12 de junio de 2018, Francia ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Today dawned sunny and bright so we decided to visit the National Park de la Brenne, which is basically a network of lakes interspersed with ancient woodland. First stop of the day was a great bird hide at Lake Purais... lots of water lilies and nesting whiskered terns. We visited three hides in total... all with different birds on offer. Highlights were the red backed shrike and the black redstart! Home for lunch before an afternoon swim dodging the showers. Three more games of ping pong... Nat in the lead so far but who knows what tomorrow holds!Leer más

  • Angles sur l'Anglin

    11 de junio de 2018, Francia ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Walking was the order and of the day, so we drove into Angles sur l’Anglin to set off on the waymarked yellow route. The village is a perfect mixture of castle ruins and old houses with classic french shutters.

After no sign of an arrow for a while we nearly set off down a path but then found a clear sign with a yellow marking. Lovely picnic lunch at a spot with a great vista. Countless turns later we realised that the signs must be pointing out the way for a much longer yellow route than the one we were intending to complete, so we retraced our steps. We took a quick detour to see a rock formation through an ancient moss filled wood.

We had already spotted a Salon de the on the way so we stopped in for some lovely tea and ice cream.

  • La Ligne

    10 de junio de 2018, Francia ⋅ 🌧 18 °C

After getting the Eurotunnel on Friday and overnighting outside Abbeville we drove down to our home for the next week just outside the village of Angles sur l’Anglin. We have a gorgeous little one bedroom house in a converted farm complex of gites in the middle of the countryside. We just had time for a quick dip in the pool before dinner. On Sunday we went to a little market in Pleumartin and then had a look at the other local villages of La Roche Possay and Vicq.Leer más
