  • Paddling down the river and Dad's feast

    13 Julai 2017, Perancis ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

We ate croissants for breakfast before heading to the kayaks. We were driven a short way up the river where we set off. It started to rain while we headed down so we stopped halfway for a coffee and to warm up. The sun finally came out and we headed off, occasionally we paddled, looked at chateaus from the river and made our way to our town. Lunch was French goodies, followed by an afternoon by the pool. Dane and I had an epic hit of pool tennis, followed by Aperol Spritz.
Muriel cooked dinner for us tonight, gazpacho soup, followed by duck with roast potatoes and a slaw salad. There was a very impressive display of hot air balloons floating past which looked incredibly scenic. Dessert was cheese and an impressive raspberry cake with "60th" birthday candles. We had a bit of a dance before watching the world go by on the balcony.

We had a lunch feast of copious amounts of cheese and salami with sparkling wine. Mum and I wandered through the town checking out shops before heading to the pool to escape the heat! We had Aperol Spritz and champagne by the pool before having dinner on the balcony. Sadly it's time to pack up and leave this magical place that we've called home.

  • Heading to Paros, Greece

    15 Julai 2017, Greece ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

We were up early and left by seven to drive to Bordeaux airport. We flew to Athens and then on to Paros . A mini bus picked us up and drove us to our villa in Naousa. It was quite a culture shock to arrive in the somewhat dry landscape after coming from lush southern France. Our villa was lovely and had a pool, multiple rooms all with bathrooms and a big outdoor space for eating. We headed down to the waterfront and found a restaurant. Dinner was delicious seafood with Greek wine. The sun set over the mountain nearby which was lovely! We had drinks at bar in a lane way.Baca lagi

  • Diving in Greece!

    16 Julai 2017, Greece ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

No croissants for breakfast anymore, back to fruit and muesli. It was nice and hot so after a relaxing morning we headed to the bus station. We went to Santa Maria and met Jake and Ali to go diving. The water was warm and a bright light blue colour. There wasn't much to see underwater other than some crockery, a few small fish and some reeds. I think all the fish have been eaten! I got to test out my new underwater camera which worked really well. We lazed on the beach and drank Mythos beers before heading back. Dinner was pork with Greek salad and eggplant cooked by Ali and Jake. It certainly was a feast!!Baca lagi

  • Flamingo happiness

    17 Julai 2017, Greece ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

We went for a short walk and got coffee at the bakery. We caught the ferry this morning over to the national park. The landscape was dramatic with lots of cliffs. We had the slowest lunch ever with a wait of over two hours for basic food. It was all worth it though when upon arriving at a beach, Jake and Ali found a blow up flamingo that had been left behind by people on a big yacht. We named it Zeus and took it home with us. Tonight's dinner was at a traditional Greek restaurant by the port. The octopus and seafood salad were yummy! Somehow we fitted in an ice cream.Baca lagi

We hired a mini bus today to explore the island. We drove past a number of beaches and had lunch at the seaside town Aliki. Swordfish, cheese donuts and squid were the highlights. We stopped at a protected beach for a swim as the day was super windy. We stopped at a beach bar where i had a pina colada and the others had a swim. • Colosseum and looking around Rome

    23 Julai 2017, Itali ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

We ate breakfast and drank takeaway coffees before heading to the Colosseum. The queues were epic so we joined a tour which skipped the queue and we were guided around by an archeologist. We heard amazing stories and tales of what happened there long ago. Inspiring that something of its magnitude was built and designed in its day. It was incredibly hot while looking around. We grabbed lunch at a supermarket before joining a tour to look around the Roman Forum. We heard stories of the Roman Empire in its day and walked around the many ruins. Very hot and dusty! We walked to the Parthenon and onto the Trevi Fountain. The guards were a bit insane, blowing their whistles at anyone getting too close to the water. We enjoyed an Aperol Spritz before looking at Piazza Navona. We ate dinner at a little Italian restaurant, pasta of the area - cheese, pepper and a sweet bacon. We stopped at a bar and we enjoyed the balmy night as we walked back home along side the river.Baca lagi

We ate breakfast then headed out for coffee. Grace, Dane and I walked to the St Peters Basilica at the Vatican. After queuing we entered and looked around. The building is so incredible and full of intricate details, mosaics, sculptures and tombs. We walked up the stairs to the top of the dome where the views of Rome were pretty specky! There was a cafe on the roof top where we grabbed a bite to eat before heading to the Vatican Museum. The crowds inside were insane and made it not very enjoyable. We felt like sardines as we made our way through the many halls to the Sistine chapel. After we enjoyed a gelato and found a drinks spot next to the river. At Bir and Fud we ate a trio of arancini balls. We met Belinda at Da Augusto in Travestere for dinner, authentic Italian pasta, rabbit and tiramisu. There were vineyards, an accordion player and many vistas. We stopped at Vernazza where we jumped off the rocks into the water for a swim and we ate gelato. We continued walking along the trail to Corniglia where we stopped for another gelato. The path was closed for the remainder of the way so we caught the train to Manarola. It was wonderful to be still for a day and enjoy the beautiful beach. We could see the five towns lining the steep coastline. We ate breakfast and headed out for coffee. We hired bikes and rode along the foreshore which was buzzing with people. Saw some skate parks and playgrounds, then rode to the Parc de Diagonal Mar to check out the slides which were not very slippery, so no good at all. Actually the park was a failure as there was no one there and had lots of steps so we couldn't ride through. We had drinks on the beach and rode to a pub for more drinks. For dinner we ate at another tapas bar which was expensive and unimpressive!Baca lagi

We ate breakfast at home, rode our bikes to the market and found delicious falafel wraps for lunch. We then rode looking at some of Gaudi's houses. We stopped at Casa Batllo and had an audio tour through the house. It was very organic, flowing, used animal and nature inspiration throughout it. Very inspiring. We rode past La Pedrera and up to Parc Guell via a very steep hill. Luckily we had pre booked tickets so got in to see the mosaic dragon. It was only two metres long, so very small compared to my one at Ruffey. The park was beautiful and inspiring through the use of mosaics, colourful seats and columns. We rode home, had drinks and went out for tapas. Fun day in BarcelonaBaca lagi

It was fun to walk around the walls with views out to the other Palaces in the town. We then hiked up to Pena Palace which was the best example of the Romanticism style of Architecture. There was a strong use of primary colours, comical statues and ceramic tiles used throughout and the roofs had a lot of detail. We walked through the gardens of the palace before heading back to Lisbon. We ate dinner at a trendy new venue which offered multiple different cuisines. My meal of macadamia crusted salmon with quinoa, watercress and citrus was delicious.Baca lagi

It wasn't very warm as there was a cool wind, so we headed to the street with plenty of fish cafes. The smell of fish cooking over the coals was absolutely delicious. We had what we think was the best salmon we've ever eaten!! Or maybe it was just really salty and crispy 🤤Baca lagi
