4169 m above sea level in one day...possible, but...the air gets very thin very fast at this altitude and you should not try it with a normal car ;-). We dared the adventure, even if not quite legal. In the morning we started with flip-flops and shorts from Kailua-Kona. Mauna Kea is like a big flat bell and you virtually drive up in serpetines. No paved roads above a certain altitude was a game changer :D. After our car shows some smoke development we reached, after a very short ;-) acclimatization at about 2700 m, the W. M.
