So apparently Supermassive Black Hole is not just a great funk rock song by Muse, but actually they are real things and there is (at least) one in our very own Milky Way! Just look for the lumpy bit where the strip of stars gets a touch wider - whodathunk! (Neutron star collisions are also real and scientists are still trying to nail down what exactly happens afterwards.)

We all had a great day exploring Scienceworks - learning about how pee and poo were pumped 100 years ago, what lightning is all about (including some really cool slow-motion videos that can probably also be found on youtube), black holes and time-space warping, new-to-us southern hemisphere constellations (e.g., Southern Cross - plus the realization that Ursa Major is a northern hemisphere constellation, thus explaining why we have been unable to find it in the night sky these past months), getting creative with wave visualization, etc. “Yeah Science!”Read more
