      Wasser, Wüste und der rest.

      May 30, 2018 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 21 °C

    • Moondarra Dam Sunset

      July 29, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

The lake, man made, Moondarra, is quite a beautiful area. We have been here before but this time we drove around past the dam wall to a secondary spillway. Here the sunset is nicely over the water. The colours spilled into the water like a pool of freshly smelted gold.

Our time in Mt Isa was a bit like the last stop in Townsville. A lot to do in a short time. The main purpose of visiting Mt Isa was to have the car serviced. It would have been way over the kilometers by the time we got to Brisbane. As I mentioned earlier we also had to fit in a rear window repair.

Whenever we service the car there is a good few hours to wait. This time we decided to have coffee at a coffee shop called the Extra Mile. It a funky place with interesting decor and book exchange. These days we use ainly eReaders but can see great attraction for retro book readers. The coffee was very good and the service impressive. We came back a few hours later for lunch.

Between coffee and lunch we managed to find a hairdresser. It took several attempts but we finally found a great place and walked out a bit light headed. Prices were reasonable.

I got a few things from Bunnings we needed then headed to Kmart. Pam bought a few clothes that were much closer fit and we also gor a new pair of boots each. Eventually we were getting quite weary and headed to the Buffs club. Turns out that is the Buffalo club. I had just got my cup of tea and the car was done and being invoiced. We would be picked up in 30 minutes. Perfect! As we walked out the front door 3 minutes to spare, the courtesy vehicle rolled in.

Country dealers are nice to deal with. Everything was done as expected and the staff are very responsive. One thing we were happy about was that I mentioned that I had seen a light on the display that came on briefly as we powered up the hills after leaving Cloncurry. Turned out it was a water alarm. Did not show during service but required code read to determine that the filter had to be drained and changed. We may well have averted a breakdown along the road.

      Damn - Mount Isa

      June 25, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

A treasure just 18k out of town is Lake Moondarra . Well used on the weekends.

The Dam has a surface area just slightly smaller than Sydney Harbour.

From a high vantage - the views of the surrounding hills are stunning.Read more

      Mt Isa 16th-19th

      July 16, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Had a little stopover/rest in Mt Isa.
Went out for dinner at The Buffs Club.
Caught up on washing and cleaning and restocked our food.
Went to the lookout. Mt Isa, well it's a mining town but it felt oddly familiar and there are a few good things around like Lawn Hill and Lake Moondarra ❤️Read more

      Washing

      July 20, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

I was up at the crack of dawn to grab a washing machine - and even then I had trouble finding space to hang all my wet washing on the line. They start early here! Anyway, job done. I got talking to a young Asian woman, at an adjoining washing machine. She was travelling with her husband and 3 young children. She lived in Perth, and they intended to 'do the lap'. The children were being home schooled. What an experience for the kids, although - while she said it only took 15 mins to set up their camper tent, and take it down again, I would rather have my caravan any day.
We went looking for a pie shop in Mount Isa, and stock up on some groceries. Then to Bunnings trying to get those much sought after fire logs. We have been trying ever since Harvey Bay to get them with no luck. Our tail lights not working caused issues driving through the town. The indicator worked okay.... we hoped. a Mechanic would look at them at 9.30 am tomorrow, and then hopefully we would be fixed and legal. We wanted to check out where the Mechanic lived, so that we weren't wandering around Mount Isa looking for him tomorrow. He was literally 5 minutes away, down a dirt road. Further up the road was the lake that the CP was named after - Moondarrah lake. It turned out to be an incredibly large body of water....all beautifully landscaped, with shelters, picnic tables, and green lushious grass. All in the middle of a desert! From the viewing point, a great vastness of water could be seen. The have a water skiing club, a canoe club, fishing . It was such a beautiful area in among the red rock, and dry mountains. When we arrived back in camp, we had new neighbours, who blocked our sunshine - not their fault. They were also from SA, and told us about a great free camp - Camooweal Billabong. Our planned stop for tommorw night.!
