Chill @ woodcroft! and stress @ adelaide

      February 9, 2017 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 37 °C

Monday was a chill day and I stayed the whole day @ Joll. Watched a few movies and downloaded a lot of new ones. I enjoyed the time over here! Just like friends in Netherlands!.

Tuesday I went to get my Dutch simcard, finally I got a new one after 3 months. Slow ozzies here. I also went to a mechanic to make an appointment to check my car for rego. It's real 'easy' here in Australia because every state is like another country in Europe. So imagine to do apk and register your gar in Germany for a dutch license plate. That's like insane. And that's exactly what I have to do here.

After a half day calling and searching I know what my opinions are.

Car is registered in nsw. To renew for nsw I need to do the following things.
      1. Get CTP insurance ($610)
      2. Check your car at an registered mechanic, in nsw($38) or Sa ($120) or VIC ($180)
      3. register online for new rego ($512) with road tax

I need to do this before 26 Feb 2017. And I'm not gonna be in nsw that time, nearest is around 350km from border. So it would cost me around $100 for fuel to drive to one in nsw.

Best would be 610+120+512= $1242 for 12 months

If I transfer my registration to SA I would pay for rego, CTP insurance and road tax around $800.

Thats a lot cheaper and I get new plates. But I have to sell my car in Sa if I leave Australia. And I wanna sell my car in nsw because that's my last location.

So I think it's best to just pay more and hope to get more for my car in Sydney when I'm selling it..

After this day I think that I know more about vehicle registration than most Australian do (including mechanics). Pretty insane right!

Well wensday a vehicle check and a/c check. And then back to the farm to do another few days.

At the end of the day I climbed to mount lofty, you can see all of adelaide from the peak. It took me 1:45 to go up and down. Total track was 8km and some pieces pretty steep. So not to bad while I haven't hiked for a long time. But it was really good, I needed the physical workout!

Today I had the check and it doesn't look that good. A/c Compressor is broken, don't need to fix it for rego. Front Brake discs and pads have to be replaced, need 3 new tires and new Cilinders for brakes back. Those 3 things would cost me 1500 over there. That's way to much! So I looked first for another car. But yeah now I need to pay around 1500 a 2000 to fix my car. But then I don't need to do anything anymore. And to get another car I maybe spend 1000 a 2000 so. Maybe better to keep my car.

I called my friend mohamad in Sydney if he could help me. He said I could fix my own car in his workshop and get a bit of help. Everything will cost me now probably around 1000 and that's including fixing the airco. So thats a lot better.

So after my OTR trip I'll be heading to Sydney for a short week and then go back to Melbourne.

      Arise of Tassiezone

      February 7, 2017 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

Today I posted an add on Facebook that I was looking for a travel mate. Within a few hours I found someone! Haha that was really quickly. And she had almost thesame plans and dates.

Unfortunately a few hours later I had a lot of reactions from other people who wanted to travel with Me. Some where already with 2 persons. It can be really annoying if you travel with someone random you are together for almost 2 weeks so it could be that you gonna hate something on eachother. And when you are traveling with a group you just gonna hang out with someone else.

So I thought, maybe if we have a few persons together we can travel with a group. But I'll see for now how many reactions I get. Unfortunately I got a lot more reactions.

So I decided to make a group with all the people I know wanna travel at thesame time.

You probably would be thinking, why tazziezone? Well I'll probably not be able to go to campzone. So why not make our own variant of campzone. And tassie is short for tasmania. So tassiezone! Currently I just feel like y'tje (yvan) from campzone! He didn't choose to be our hero but most people chose him :-P y'tje is definitely my hero! I really like his spicy nuts!

So I try to be the hero of this group and hopefully I Learn a lot! Also a few bad habits I gonna introduce on this group. One is the beer count system, who yells one gets the beer and he get the amount of beer that's called. Second thing is perudo.. OMG Really! Yeah really. BEST GAME EVER!

Currently I got 8 people together. And I'm the only one with a car. Hopefully it fits :-P.

      The Ashes Test Match

      December 4, 2017 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

I stayed two whole days in Adelaide. Apart from hanging out and eating with my friends, my fourth foray to Adelaide marked another new first for me - my first cricket match.

My visit happened to coincide with the Ashes Test between Australia and England, so I joined Trixie, Charles and their friend Lisa to watch the third day match at the Adelaide Oval. I knew next to nothing about cricket. Much to Trixie’s chagrin, my first observation watching the Ashes on television while we were on the Great Ocean Road was that the Australians wore tighter trousers than the British. I was in for a crash course on bowling, batting, wickets, and everything else in between. I approached this event as a cultural experience, much like how I approched watching baseball at the Dodgers Stadium, college football when I was at UCLA, soccer at Manchester United, rugby union at Sale Rugby Club in Manchester, etc. I rooted for England, my former home.

To my surprise, I actually enjoyed watching cricket. The pacing of the game was consistent, the crowd was very congenial, and parts of the play were actually quite exciting, especially towards the end of the evening with England batting. The end of play that day was a little abrupt, though; the players just walked off the field when their run was completed. I also developed a new sports crush - Australian cricketer Pat Cummins😁. The icing on the cake was getting to watch aircraft after aircraft descend into Adelaide Airport as I observed the match.

      Adelaide

      July 14, 2012 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 12 °C

I don't recall much about my time in Adelaide other than lots of good food and good company. Although I am sure I took more photos, I could only find one; it was a photo of a paella we made at Trixie's at a gathering with her friends.Read more

    • Day 39

      Adelaide

      July 26, 2016 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Adelaide is the only Australian capital to be named after a woman. In 1836 Captain Hindmarsh submitted a request to His Majesty King William IV that the new capital be named after his Majesty or his consort Queen Adelaide. The king chose Adelaide.
Adelaide greeted us with wind, rain and a cold snap however lucky for us, Stephen and Leah Arrizzo and Mandy Mattiske and Lee, were warm and welcoming. We hung out at Stephen and Leah's beautful home, repacked the FJ and had it serviced in preparation for the final leg of our trip.
Today saw us head into The Basin Haircutters (Mandy and Steve's Salon) where we met several of the staff and enjoyed some hair pampering and terrific coffee. Haydn caught up with Spencer from nak and we wandered the Central Markets in the city.
The first South Australians in the Adelaide region were the Kaurna (pronounced Garna) people. The area was known to them as Tandanya - the place of the red kangaroo. Part of the Kaurna people's spiritual connection to the country is Tjilbruke, an anesteral warrior, the keeper of fire and peace, who journeyed through the landscape in the dreamtime leaving his mark where he rested - thus his tears became springs.
We visited Henley Beach and had a bite to eat at Swedish Tarts. The wide range of tarts and my savoury crepe was delish with prosciutto, sundried tomatoes and parmesan...yum!

      Adelaide not as Planned

      April 7, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

The day before arriving in Adelaide Paul took a bit of a turn and we tested for Covid but seemed okay but he was quite sick with a fever. By the time we reached Adelaide and another bad night we did another Covid test and this time it was positive.
By Saturday Sue was starting to come down with similar symptoms. Didn’t bother testing, figured it was a foregone conclusion.

Haigh’s Chocolates & Pirate Life Brewing

      April 29, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Slow to get moving, we headed to Haigh’s Chocolate Factory at 11am and did the quick tour and claimed as many free tastings as possible. We got our fill then went to Pirate Life Brewing for lunch in Port Adelaide.

The brewery was huge and really well setup with indoor/outdoor areas, hairdressers parlour, merch shop, pinball gaming area and shuffle board which the kids loved playing (I want one!). Lunch was nice, although a little exxy and they had 20+ beverages on tap so I had a tasting paddle followed up by some others 😉

We met my workmate Rhiannon for a catch up & quick coffee after that and I was pleasantly surprised by how cool that Port Adelaide area was. It was surprisingly quiet (so much so Abby could do a handstand on the street - see pic) but there were some nice shops and I loved all the historic buildings (thanks to Rhiannon for the history lesson too). I could really see that place taking off if the right people get involved.
