      Redcliffe

      Sarah decided to stay home tidy a cupboard and revise for an alcohol serving qualification. So Trev and I took the bus to Redcliffe to enjoy a walk and some lunch. We got off the 690 at Pelican Park. If we had arrived before 10 am we could have seen the resident pelicans who can still be seen sitting or standing on the top of the lampposts at the end of the Hornibrook Highway bridge, even though they are encouraged not to by devises fitted to the lamps!
      Pelican Park is named in honour of these amazing winged creatures. The park is located at the southern end of Redcliffe Peninsula just next to Bells Beach. It juts out into Bramble Bay, making it the perfect spot for pelicans to land. Often they return at sunset to perch high above the bridge as the hues of red and gold bathe the sky – a marvelous sight to behold for commuters travelling home across the water.
      We walked along the Clontarf / Redcliffe path all the way around Clontarf’s bay, passing through rock-lined Bell’s Beach to the Woody Point jetty, a 230m structure of recycled hardwood, 2.5km. It was also in this vicinity that Matthew Flinders stepped ashore in 1799 during his exploration of the bay and, inspired by the red soil outcrops, named the peninsula Redcliffe.
      We had lunch at Feelgoodz, having a Citrus Iced Tea float for the first time - tea over crush ice with orange ice cream and topped with lemon sorbet, Yum!! The chicken, bacon, Avo and spinach sandwich wasn't bad either. After lunch we returned home stopping to pick up supplies and an Iced Latte for Sarah.       Redcliffe Xmas

      Xmas eve at Redcliffe with Mum and Dad and Rusty! It's very exciting! Much more exciting than traveling around Australia in a caravan or making snowmen in Dubuque, Iowa. Yes this is as exciting as it gets. Pass me a beer dad!

      Just at the Belvedere pub now. We rode 100km and rescued 3 small children and 5 puppies from a house fire along the way. Time for some well earned refreshment !

      Mum is on her second bottle of rum and singing loudly. The Neighboor's have called the police and she is shouting absurdities at people going to the Red Dolphin fish and chip shop, yelling "chipper, chipper, chipper!"

      It's 4am. We've been partying all night. We've just been kicked out of a strip club and now we are on the run from the cops who want a cut of the profits from all the pingers we've been selling! I'm trying hard to grow a mustache quickly to put them off the trail!      Lue lisää

      Redcliffe

      A stop over site for one night, as we could not get into the Scarborough Holiday Park until Saturday.
      After setting up in the morning we took a 6 k walk around the Woody Point headland into Redcliffe where we briefly visited the Information Centre. On the way we wandered along the Woody Point pier to observe the fishermen and women. There was an abundance of small herring visible from the pier but the fishermen were all after different fish, either snappers or Australian mackerel. There was definitely some mackerel about as every now and then a surface frenzy arose where the herring were jumping out the water to escape the predators.
      There was a very large chap with his wife at the end of the pier with 9 rods out - she looked totally disinterested in the whole affair. After about 10 minutes he got a bite and pulled in a long fish with a long sharp beak and loads of razor sharp teeth - it looked like a Garfish but was a Barred Longtom - not a flicker of interest from wifey.
      Other guys were out with nets looking for Red Mullet below the pier which they would hope to ensnare with a deft throw.      Lue lisää
