  • Bergen?

    23 september 2025, Noorwegen ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

The question mark on the Bergen sign at Bergen Airport is actually part of an art installation by Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson. The piece spells out “BERGEN?” in large, luminous yellow letters, and it's meant to evoke a sense of existential reflection and poetic ambiguity.
Kjartansson explained that the question mark symbolises the feeling of being a modern human—constantly travelling, often disoriented, and caught between destinations. He wanted the piece to reflect the melancholy and humour of arriving somewhere and wondering, “Is this really Bergen?” or “What does Bergen mean to me?” It invites travellers to interpret the sign in their own way, making it both serious and playful at the same time

  • Førde to Gothenburg

    23 september 2025, Noorwegen ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

Today was a long day of travel. Our day started with a drive from Førde in Norway, and we finished the day in Gothenburg, Sweden. Once the fog cleared, we had a wonderful, sunny day, the first of our week-long trip in Norway.

The drive from Førde was a scenic journey of about 200 kilometres, mainly following the E39 highway south from Førde, passing through stunning valleys and alongside rivers before reaching the charming village of Dale. Continuing on the E39, the road takes you through several tunnels and over bridges, with dramatic fjord and mountain views, especially as we neared Bergen.

From Bergen, we caught a late flight to Gothenburg, taking us into Sweden. We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Norway and highly recommend it for anyone who loves panoramic mountain views.

  • Gothenburg sightseeing

    24 september 2025, Zweden ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

The sun shone brightly from early in the day, and it remained sunny throughout our day in Gothenburg. Gothenburg is Sweden’s second-largest city, known for its blend of industrial heritage, cultural richness, and laid-back charm.

Our apartment was in the centre of town, so it was a perfect day for a stroll around Gothenburg to see the sights. This morning, we wandered up the main boulevard of Gothenburg, known as Avenyn (The Avenue), which was inspired by formal European streets like the Champs-Élysées in Paris and the Ringstraße in Vienna.

Dodging the trams, we then walked down to Haga, one of the oldest and most charming neighbourhoods in Gothenburg. It dates back to the 17th century and is known for its well-preserved wooden houses, cobbled streets, and cosy atmosphere. We enjoyed one of the famous cinnamon buns for which the area is renowned. From there, we went to the Market Hall to grab some lunch.

After lunch, we explored the Gothenburg Museum and enjoyed the sunshine at Bältespännarparken, a small but historically significant park in central Gothenburg. I closed my eyes for just a moment and started to drift off. The weather was perfect, and our day in Gothenburg was wonderful.

  • Gothenburg to Stockholm

    25 september 2025, Zweden ⋅ 🌙 12 °C

After flying and driving for the first half of our holiday, we took our first and only train trip on tour today, from Gothenburg to Stockholm. I don’t know why we decided to catch the train, but it was nearly a six-hour journey with many stops along the way. I might have booked the wrong train, specifically one that stopped frequently, instead of the express train that went directly to Stockholm. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the trip with the sun shining through our window the whole way.

On our arrival at Stockholm Central Station, we had a short walk to our accommodation. We are staying in a hotel instead of an apartment for the next three nights, but we are in the centre of Stockholm, so everything we need, including food, is close at hand. We dropped our bags and walked along the streets near our accommodation, checking out the food available and the shopping.

The route included a stroll through the Lower Lakes canyon, a quick electric boat transfer across Lake Kozjak, a ride on the transfer bus, and a walk along the top of the eastern side of the canyon back to our starting point at Entrance 1. Just like yesterday’s walk, the scenery was truly spectacular.Meer informatie
