      Still alive!!!

      My last 10 days in Las Terrenas were so busy that I didnt even find the time to write a little update on my life. And I even forgot until Grosmami and Gotti asked me if I was still alive, and here’s the proof:) Sorry for that though!
      During my time here I kept adding points tp my bucket list of tjings I wanted to dp for the time being and one of them was to walk from Restaurant Luis all along Cosón to Punta Bonita and later on to Playa Bonita. My friends hadn‘t really been up fot walking but that day I convinced them and they joined me. In the morning we had to do some work at the diving, make new ropes for our coral reef and prepare all the stuff for our next dives. By the way, I am now officially a certified „deep diver“, which is even after the advanced (so my level of diving is higher than papas hihi). So anyways we didnt have to fill up tanks in the afternoon so we had plenty of time. The walk was really nice, we stopped at a beautiful river surrounded by mangroves and palmtrees on its shores. We stayed there a bit and went swimming because it was really hot that day. In the evening we went to groovy Garden again to eat dinner this time & I took rollos de verano con camarones, which ver delicious, however unfortunately earlier they had brought us olives and „papas“ which technically would‘ve been glutenfree but seems like the spices were not good for me, so the next day I suffered from some very bad stomach aches for the first time here in the Dom Rep.

      The Routine Starts

      After a little while of being here, I still discover something new every day, however I can tell that I started having a daily routine. In the morning as usual we went diving, which means at 9am at the diving center. This day we did two dives because of the advanced course that i‘m doing at the moment. Our first dive was a „Deep dive“, one of the things you need to accomplish in order to pass the course. We went down 25 meters and stayed for about an hour. I saw many corals, sponges, seagrass meadows, a huge crayfish (Languste), a moraine and a barakuda. It was great. Even though we were pretty deep down I only used half of my tank, so I was very disappointed when Daria gave us the sign to start heading back up. The second dive was a basic volunteer dive. We monitored sea urchins with transects, which means that we basically counted the dead/alive/and ill sea urchins systematically and wrote it down on special paper you can bring into the water. After the diving, I played football-tennis with a cute little local boy (who absolutely loves me). His parents are the owners of the shop right next to the diving, so he and his dog hang around there a lot. Then I went home, and we headed to Playa Cosson with Motoconchos. There we stayed the wjole afternoon and then went back home because we had spanish class. After class we went to pola supermarket to grab all we needed for dinner. I also bought a coffee pot because I couldnt go on one more day without my beloved coffee. Our bag was so heavy later on, that we had to carry it together. On the way we ordered streetfood chicken, which turned put to be veeryyyy nasty, but at least we have tried. We ate dinner with all the volunteers on the rooftop.       Woke up at 6 (grazie jet lag), went to take a place on the sun beds in front of the beach⛱️, they were all taken already (at 7!). Tomorrow we're going at 5am. 😑🤯🤬

      We visited Las Terrenas shops (pretty deceiving), enjoyed the beach🏖️, pool and big waves🌊(Christian), met a lovely couple from Saint Jacobs (Ontario) who introduced me to my new favorite cocktail : Bloody Ceasar🍹and invited us to go to the Maple Siroup Festival! 😊🥂

      3rd day @ Samana!

      Another sunny day in Samana. We went to take a place at 6am and the one we wanted was already frikkin taken. We took a cocoon near the swimmingpool and it super comfy too. Happy we are. This morning little walk on the beach 🏖️🌴🌊, we met 2 Bernard l'eremite🐚, aquagym with old ladies in the pool, chilling and relaxing. Tomorrow we're going to see the whales🐳 and Cayo Levantado🏖️, yuppie(departure at 7 50 so we won't need to wake up early to take a place on the frikkin beach 😂😉🏖️Read more

      Chillin Rainy Cloudy Sunny day

      Relaxing day spent in such a stressful way, between walks on the beach🌊, book reading by the pool, book reading in the room while it was raining🌦️, book reading by the pool again🌞, cocktail drinking🍸🍹 by the seashore⛱️.. And a body massage+facial treatment at the Spa😇! Tough tough life.
      P. S. And we discovered an option on my phone that allows a picture to be taken every time the detector sees a smile...3345 smily pics were taken, I could only upload a few 😂😂😂      Read more

      Las terrenas, upgrade 5 etoiles

      Le dernier jour en Amérique du Sud est arrivé, même si nous partons pour la rep dom puis Cuba, le fait de partir du continent Sud américain sonne la fin du voyage à sac à dos. Nous avons bien bourlingué et sommes prêt pour las terrenas. pour être sûr et non stressé nous arrivons 3 heures en avance. Nous avons bien fait car arrivés au check in on nous annonce que le vol est en surbooking. Comme nous sommes dans les derniers a faire le check in car beaucoup l ont fait par internet nous sommes sur liste d attente. S en suit une guerre des nerfs entre la compagnie et nous pour réussir à embarquer. Ils voulaient nous faire passer par Punta cana , arriver plus tard puis rajouter 2 heures de bus, tout cela sans compensation. A 45 min du vol, ils nous demandent de passer la douane, un de nous deux à un siège pour sur. Tout est bien qui finit bien, nous sommes deux a partit direction la rep dom. A l arrivé, Andres notre chauffeur nous attend, nous montons dans la voiture tout confort pour 2 heures de routes de Saint domingue à Las Terrenas. Une boucle deux boucles... bonita village et enfin la fameuse Casa 21. Une arrivé en sac a dos dans une maison de rêve, la musique en fond et la famille qui attend, une pluie de photos des bisous dans tous les sens, Olivier et Mumu nous accueillent comme des princes. On découvre notre suite royale. On vient de prendre un upgrade 5 étoiles en qq secondes. C est parti pour les cocktails, on embrasse nos cousins Hugo et Vic et on fait la connaissance de tout la clique du moment Benji aka Robert Goulay, Arthur, Paul Eva,, et nous voilà à table a déguster des langoustines, le plats le meilleurs qu' on est pu déguster de tout le voyage, même hugo qui n est pas très poisson c est bien laissé tenté. Fin du repas, séance chupitos, on part à l assaut du village des pêcheurs, en moins de deux heures on connaîtra tout les patrons des bars et boîtes grâce à notre guide Olivier, bilan une 40taines de bises des cocktails, un b52 en intronisation.       RoadTrip to Samaná

      Valentinstag ließen wir Cabarete hinter uns - endlich ging es auf Entdeckungstour über die Insel. Bisher hatte ich davon ja noch nicht allzu viel gesehen... Mit dem Mietwagen ging es rund 100km weiter gen Nordost der Dominikanischen Republik nach Las Terrenas in Samaná.

      Samaná ist eine Provinz an der Atlantikküste der Dominikanischen Republik, die sich größtenteils mit der gleichnamigen Halbinsel deckt. Die Halbinsel vereint so ziemlich alle Vorzüge der Karibik: Traumstrände voller Kokospalmen, einsame Buchten und vorgelagerte Inseln, grüne Berghänge mit Wasserfällen, ländliche Dörfer und Fischerhütten.
      Ein tolles Naturschauspiel kann man derzeit von Januar bis März in der Bucht von Samaná bestaunen: Jedes Jahr kommen die Buckelwale zur Paarung und Geburt ihrer Jungtiere in die Bucht.

      Nach einem Picknickzwischenstop mit wunderbarer Sicht auf die Küste erreichten wir das erste Highlight auf diesem Ausflug: den Playa Grande. Dieser liegt an der Nordküste, zwischen Puerto Plata und der Halbinsel Samaná und ist ein Traumstrand, wie er kaum besser sein kann. Sandstrände von Feinsten, Hunderte von Kokospalmen und schöne Korallenfelsen laden zum Verweilen ein. Da wir noch gut 2 Stunden Autofahrt vor uns hatten, ging es nach einem kurzen Zwischenstop bereits weiter. Heben wir uns für die Rücktour auf;)....

      Nach einer schönen Fahrt (mit leichtem Umweg und versuchter Bestechung) durch die Berge erreichten wir Las Terrenas und unsere Unterkunft für die kommenden 2 Nächte. Die Casa de Gilles: www.chambredhotelasterrenas.com liegt im Naturpark von Las Terenas und bietet eine atemberaubend schöne Sicht auf die Bucht und das Meer. Zudem ist sie super super schön eingerichtet (zur Casa in den kommenden Tagen noch mehr).

      Am Abend ging es zum Valentinsdinner in den Ort.
      Las Terrenas selbst ist ein schöner Ferienort, sehr multikulturell europäisch mit zahlreichen schönen Stränden und viel guter Gastronomie. Alles etwas gediegener und schicker als in Cabarete. Die Flaniermeile Pueblo de los Pescadores zum Beispiel verläuft am Meer und ist von Bars und Restaurants gesäumt, viele davon mit Terrassenplätzen. Valentinstagsbedingt hatten wir etwas Probleme hier einen Platz zu ergattern, aber irgendwann hatten wir dann Glück und es gab leckeren Fisch und Seafood. Den Abend selbst ließen wir mit Vino unter'm Sternenhimmel auf unserer gemütlichem Terrasse ausklingen-traumhaft!      Read more

      Chilli-Milli und Brackwassersee

      Die Unterkunft verließen wir erst nach dem Mittagessen. Schön lecker Nudeln mit Barilla Pesto. Eigentlich hatten wir keinen Plan für den heutigen Tag, bis wir mit Edith (der Besitzerin dieses kleinen Paradieses) über natürliche Seen ins Gespräch kamen. Der kleinere See befand sich 45 Minuten fußläufig entfernt. Dabei liefen wir über Waldwege die voller riesiger Pfützen und illegalen Müllhalden waren. Die Pfützen konnten wir mit Flipflops durchqueren, die Müllberge allerdings nicht ausblenden. Auf dem Rückweg ging es wieder am Strand entlang. Heute Abend gibt es Chili con carne, für mich (David) Avocado Baguette. Immer was los hier. Gestern gab es gemeinsames Barbecue.Read more
