Emily Embo 🇬🇧 Lake Marien On Saturday, we wanted to go to Lake Marian with colleagues after work. Saturday seemed perfect; it's usually a quiet day at work, and the weather was supposed to be beautiful. We finished work an hour early, so we set off. Along the Milford Road, we passed fields of sheep and mountains for about an hour and a half. The hike up to Lake Marian was quite steep, but after an hour, we made it, and the view was phenomenal. My colleague and I brought swimwear just in case we wanted to swim spontaneously. It was quite windy at the lake, and just as we were considering it, strangers walked by and asked if we wanted to swim. Now we couldn't say no and joined the three Czechs. They had already swam earlier but wanted to take another plunge into the cold water. We prepared to jump off a small rock while the rest of our colleagues held their cameras on us. Three, two, one... Splash! The cold startled me; I had just been warm from the strenuous hike, and now this cold water. I wouldn't do it like that again. Lesson learned: next time, ease in slowly before jumping. In the sun, we dried quickly, and we headed back. I think we're all happy to have people here to do things with. See also: Milford Sound (posted at the same time as this)
