    Suva, Fiji

    January 22, 2024 in Fiji ⋅ ☁️ 82 °F

We have been in Suva in 2017, so we decided to take a short, 4 hours tour today. The weather forecast was rain and more rain, but when we docked it was sunny and really warm.
The big tour bus was very comfortable and practically empty. Upon entering bus, we were presented with Fiji water.
First stop was just an overlook with our ship .
Our second stop was produce market. Huge area with all kind of fruit and veggies. The prices are very low.
We then passed a government building. In 2017 we stopped and walked around. Now it’s not permitted. We took a photo of the guard from the bus.
The next stop was Fiji museum. Located in the heart of Suva’s Thurston Gardens, the Fiji Museum holds a remarkable collection, which includes archaeological material dating back 3,700 years and cultural objects representing both Fiji’s indigenous inhabitants and the other communities that have settled in the island group over the past 200 years.
We stopped at the restaurant for light lunch and then the last stop was shopping mall (unnecessary stop).
Back on the ship, we rested, took shower and tried our skills in origami.

    Cinema & McDonalds

    December 14, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

To finish off the afternoon I treated myself to a sit down in an air conditioned room at the cinema! I watched Godzilla Minus One which was highly enjoyable and cost just $7.50FJD (£2.82). The entire film was in Japanese but thankfully had English subtitles otherwise I'd have been in trouble. I then headed just down the road to McDonalds for 10 chicken nuggets and a large chips as a rare taste of home!Read more

    Thurstaston Gardens

    December 13, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

It seems to be some sort of graduation day today so the gardens were flooding with graduates having their pictures taking. The trees to the gardens were also flooded with hundreds of huge bats hanging from the top branches!Read more

  • Day 13

    Fiji

    October 22, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Fiji was beautiful but not quite what we expected! The island was gorgeous but it was a significant drive from port to any of the activities. We chose to do a day at a resort to be able to experience the Fiji waters. The resort was like out of a postcard and it would be beautiful to stay on a property like that, but to get around the island and do anything else was hard.

At the resort we swam and had a traditional Fijian lunch. Then after words it was time to head back to port. One of the interesting things about Fiji is we saw all 3 prisons and they have a program where when you get out of jail they give you a plot of land to help start your life afterwards.

Overall while we enjoyed Fiji it isn’t necessarily somewhere that is on a must hit again list for me. It was beautiful and amazing, but the travel time from the US is so long and i think there are many other areas to go and see in this region of the world.

    First Day in Suva

    March 8 in Fiji ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Marla and Brian took me into town to explore a bit! We caught a taxi in, only FJ$6 from their place to downtown!
First explored the market, where there’s so many vendors selling fresh produce, and upstairs lots of kava root vendors. Then we went to the ‘Suva Flea Market’ which is not really a flea market but a building with textile vendors, lots of weaving and masi mats which are made from the inner bark of the paper mulberry tree. Sat down to have a nice fresh juice at a cafe, and chatted. A guy came up to us saying he was from Toronto, and looking for things to do in Suva and places to stay, but he had very strange vibes haha.

Marla and Brian went to go do their grocery shopping and I headed over to the mall to meet up with Lupe’s daughter, Olive (pronounced oh-leev-eh). Olive is going to school here in Suva so I brought some of her stuff over for Lupe.
Olive and her friend from school had to do some grocery shopping, as did I, so we walked around the market together! I bought some passion fruit and guava and bread, all at very good prices! The bag of small guavas was only FJ$1, like CA60¢! Fiji is definitely the cheapest country I’ve been to so far. We then went to the supermarket where I bought most of my groceries for the week, and taxied back, stopping at the Dunn’s place on the way so I could give Olive the stuff I brought over for her! Nice to meet her, and explore the town together:)

A nice chill night, with the first of many spaghetti and hotdog dinners lol

    Suva

    February 9 in Fiji ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Professoressa, lo so, i romani usavano dire "repetita iuvant".

    Suva, Fidschi Inseln

    February 9 in Fiji ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

    Hütte nur barfuß und ohne Kopfbedeckung betreten ;
    Es sind keine kurzen Hosen oder Röcke erwünscht, Saron umbinden;

  • Day 100

    Suva, Fiji

    January 7 in Fiji ⋅ 🌧 27 °C

Suva, largest city in South Pacific. We had a tour to be remembered… a spin around the city with a stop at the State house where the President lives. Not allowed in but had a photo with the guard. We then enjoyed a visit to a local village where Tanya and Kath were blessed by the locals. The village housed about 200 people and they are called to church on Sunday by a traditional drum. We drove to the rain forest where we were going to hike to the waterfall, but Mother Nature sent too much rain and the dirt road became dangerous with traffic going both ways including large tour buses. Crazy time trying to get up the road and too treacherous to hike. What a day!Read more

  • Day 20

    Suva

    February 2, 2024 in Fiji ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C
