Lisbon-Porto Day 3

Landed in Lisbon at 0930. Uneventful entry through customs.

Enjoyed a delicious falafel veggie on a multi grain bun.

On the bus now to Porto where I will start my walk on Friday. I want to give myself a bit of a break due to the 7 hour time difference and travel.

Had no problem taking the Metro to within walking distance of the hostel.

It is very clean. I share the room with 3 other girls.
Went exploring tonight .

My hostel is very close to where Laura and I walked.... A couple of blocks from the Empanada place😉
I found a new restaurant. It actually is a pizza place but I had a shrimp salad!!!! Wonderful🤗💕

Ich bin da. Nach 35 Stunden Busfahrt habe ich es geschafft. Vom meinem Hostel sind es rund 40 Minuten Fußweg zur berühmten Brücke, von der ich dieses Video gemacht habe. Zum 3. mal stehe ich an diesem Punkt. Das letzte mal 2023 einen Tag bevor der Camper geschrottet wurde.Read more

Porto II.

Es gibt so viel in Porto zu sehen, sodass wir einen zweiten, diesmal abendlichen, Besuch beschließen.
Wir sehen unter anderem
- Den Bahnhof, ein Schmuckstück und beliebtes Fotomotiv.
- Die Kathedrale von Porto, die seit 1996 als Weltkulturerbe eingetragen ist.
- Zwei Kirchen in einem Gebäude. Rechts die Igreja do Carmo und auf der linken Seite die Igreja dos Carmelitas.
- Den berühmten Turm von Clerigos, einer der höchsten Türme Portugals und das architektonische Wahrzeichen der Stadt.
Mit vielen Eindrücken beseelt haben wir es uns dann zum Abschluss noch richtig gut schmecken lassen.Read more

Eine Woche als Pilgerin 😄

Eine Woche bin ich mit meiner Freundin Anna den Jakobsweg die Küste entlang gewandert 🥾🥾 Jannik hatte auch mal Zeit für sich und konnte surfen gehen 😄
Richtig schön mal Besuch aus der Heimat zu bekommen und genug Zeit zum quatschen hatte man auch 😄☺️ Wir sind fast 100km von Porto bis Viana do Castelo gelaufen 😊 Danke an Anna für den schönen Mädelstrip 💕💕
Jetzt hätte ich Lust direkt noch weiter bis Santiago de Compostela zu gehen 😄😄Read more

Day 12: Wander-climb tower & book store

After my tour, I wandered toward the Clerigos Tower as it needed to be climbed. Up I went trying to avoid the people coming down from the top. Think the rain chased people away. 192 steps and views - although rainy.

Walked over to a place called “bar” to hang out until my 2pm reservation to get into the famous Livraria Lello (bookstore). Think it was on some list of the best things to see. The bookstore is small but there are so many beautiful books.

After my wandering I grabbed a late lunching Bifana and red wine. Yummy but not as good as Lisbon but do not tell anyone.

Wandered back to my apartment to enjoy a loaf of bread purchased.Read more

Day 45–52
Porto (The Final Portugese Stop)

Our last Portuguese stop: Porto. What a great city! We like to start our stays with walking tours to orient ourselves to the town. During our walks, we found the bookstore that JK Rowling used as inspiration for Diagon Alley, a 40ft tall cat, thousands of tulips, bridges designed by Eiffel and of course, port wine. We continue to be enamored by the churches, the azulejo tiles and the calcadas pavers.

This week we attended mass at Porto's SE (their nickname for the main cathedral), listened to a vespers string concert at the capela de fradelos, and an organ concert at Dos Clérigos. We also climbed the tower at Dos Clerigo and discovered that they used to be a contraption with a magnifying glass, fuse, and mortar that would automatically fire at noon each day. When the sun was at its highest it aligned with the magnifying glass to burn the fuse and fire the mortar. Apparently it damaged nearby roofs so is no longer in use.

We took a day trip to Douro Valley where we learned all about the vineyards and grapes used in Port wine as well as hiked along the river.

Next stop France to begin our 500 mile Camino de Santiago.Read more

Porto 🇵🇹

Gegen 11:30 Uhr (portugiesischer Zeit) kam ich dann endlich in Porto an😊 Ich führ mit der Metro in die Stadt und von dort erstmal zu meinem Hostel 🏨 Dort schloss ich meine Rucksack weg, unterhielt mich noch etwas mit zwei Mädels aus Österreich und machte mich dann auf den Weg zur Kathedrale in Porto, wo für mich morgen der Camino beginnt😊 Ich kaufte mir den Pilgerpass, die Pilgermuschel und schaute mir dir wunderschöne Kapelle an ⛪️ Echt beeindruckt und schön 😍 Man konnte sogar nach oben gehen und bekam einen beeindruckenden Blick über Porto 🏙️. Danach lief ich etwas umher und schaute mir die wunderschöne Stadt an. Am Fluss (Douro) kaufte ich mir einen Kaffee und Eis und genoss den Moment.
Später ging ich noch einkaufen und dann gegen 17:00 Uhr zurück ins Hostel. Dort aß ich noch und ging tatsächlich auch gegen 19:00 Uhr ins Bett und schlief sofort ein🛏️💤Read more

Ich bin froh die Nacht in der Herberge hinter mir zu haben und verlasse sie auf schnellstem Weg. Abhaken, weiter geht‘s!
10 Minuten später sitze ich bei fabelhafter Musik in einem gemütlichen Restaurant und gönne mir ein ordentliches Frühstück - genau darauf habe ich mich die ganze Nacht gefreut…🤩

Anschließend nehme ich den Bus nach Porto, um zu Alex aus Schweden aufzuschließen. Wir haben uns letztes Jahr auf dem Camino Frances kennengelernt und uns für dieses Jahr verabredet - Foto wird morgen nachgeliefert…

Es ist fast schon unwirklich, Alex auf meinem Camino Portugues zu sehen, da ich bisher überwiegend alleine unterwegs war. Zusammen kaufen wir eine, waschen Wäsche, kochen essen und bringen uns wieder auf den neusten Stand und sind sofort in den alten Routinen drin.
