    Arrival

    August 1, 2023 in Vietnam ⋅ 🌧 30 °C

This is Noah, a tall and thin Dutch guy who takes his first trip to Vietnam this August, 2023. The CI flight (transit in Taipei) will carry him to Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi) at ~11:00am. The flight's on time.

We meet sometimes thru smart phone screen, this is the first time we meet him in real life, talk to him face to face.

We will have 6 weeks ahead to know each another, to understand and get acquaintance.

Life is so exciting, we would like to thank God to create this opportunity.

    A day out in Hanoi

    August 2, 2023 in Vietnam ⋅ 🌧 30 °C

Almost right after arriving Hanoi, Noah started to discover the capital City.

We should not introduce more about Hanoi since its information can be found in many sources.

Just look at these pictures and remember Ho Guom, Thang Long Citadel, Railway Road Cafe, Central Cathedral and many delicious foods and drinks such as Banh Goi, Dinh cafe....Read more

  • Day 3

    Thay Temple

    August 3, 2023 in Vietnam ⋅ 🌧 31 °C

20km southest from Hanoi downtown, at Sai Son Commune, Quoc Oai District, Thay Temple is an ancient pagoda that carries a thick historical value of Buddism in Vietnam.

Time never waits for us so just after a day for relaxing, Noah starts the first point in his Vietnam visiting footpint map.

Buddhism is the largest of the major world religions in Vietnam, with about ten million followers, so imprint of Buddhism can be seen in everywhere, from the big cities like Hanoi, Hochiminh, Danang... to every small village in rural areas.

Thay Pagoda is located at the foot of Phat Tich Mountain (also known as Thay Mountain). Originally, it was just a small hermitage called Huong Hai Hermitage. When King Ly Nhan Tong (1072 - 1127) ascended the throne, he had it rebuilt into two temples: the Upper Pagoda on the mountain and the Lower Pagoda (also known as Thay Pagoda or Phat Tich Pagoda) at the foot. Thay Pagoda is a historical, cultural, and spiritual relic of Hanoi in particular and the Northern region in general. It was recognized as a Special National Monument in 2014.

It's a good weather day, not too much sunny and hot (of course to Vietnamese, not to Noah), so after visiting the temple at the foot of mountain, we climb up to the mountain and visit the small cave, where the God master Tu Dao Hanh (1072-1116) did meditation and passed away.

And Cac Co Cave is the big one, do you remember the dark way to come down and the pool of bone at the end of the route? The lady-guide persuaded us to come inside and talked alot about myastical things but I'm not sure any among those are trustworthy.

After Chua Thay Temple, we followed a small village road and come to a restaurant, where the hotport named Lau Cua Dong so dilicious, and where Noah very much likes the mixed green vegetables.

Every step we go is memorable.

  • Day 5

    La Pan Tan, Yen Bai

    August 5, 2023 in Vietnam ⋅ 🌧 24 °C

3 days 2 nights trip to the northern mountainous Yen Bai Province of Vietnam is very very... special. Rain pours dogs and cats almost 24 hrs, just 30 minutes after we arrive La Pan Tan, and lasts until next day noon time when we leave.

Last but not least, heavy rain caused the power generation center in the area collapsed and electricity was cut off all the time. Not only Noah, we also never have had this kind of experience during travelling life so farrrrrr.

Total road length from Ha Noi to La Pan Tan, a very famous place with overlap terrace rice field, is not really far, just ~ 250km. But the road to mountainous areas in Vietnam is not simple road, it's really top, continously runs curving, bending, even circle so it took 5-6 hours just for that a short distance.

And it makes Noah carsick. Poor Noah, he has to overcome himself, we can not help him or vomit for him :(.

Get up early to start a trip was also a challenge to Noah since going to sleep late and waking up late is Noah's habit. Noah should be very tỉed and uncomfortable,

Daddy tried to control speed and drive more slowly to help Noah feel better. That's only the thing we can do. I believe if Noah travels more, do exercise to be harder and stronger, this kind of travel will be nothing for him. Uhm, Bi does not allow me to mention about the weight of Noah and forbid me to ask Noah to eat further, so I never say a word about that topic to Noah, just one time here in this travel diary, behind Noah's presence, I'm brave to say openly, hhh.

We stop at Pho Nui Restaurant in Tu Le to have lunch and give Noah time for relax and recover, infront only about 40 minutes driving to Do Gu Homestay, La Pan Tan, the destination for the first night.

What's the impression of La Pan Tan? A small homestay facing to the rice field terrace layers, of course.

And rain and rain, and rain, and rain....

The rain started right after Noah finished video call with his mother, just enough time for Mother to admire the wide mountainous scenery in Vietnam. We almost stayed inside the room all the time, just moved down for meals and took photos via white class window.

  • Day 6

Le Champ Tu Le, Yen Bai

    August 6, 2023 in Vietnam ⋅ 🌧 22 °C

We came back to Tu Le from La Pan Tan, rain still pours. I very much worried for the road condition. Last night, heavy rain destroyed totally a commune in the area, just about 40km far from the place we stay. Fortunately, the way we go back is quite ok, and sky started turning clear and blue, we have had a good afternoon for movement games in Amusement Centre.

Uhm, Aeris Hill of Le Champ is an amusement area, there are many options for movement games. Noah seems not be ready for this kind of activities, but a strong girl besides him encourage him to try. To have this opportunity is not easy, we traveled a long trip and paid a curtain amount to come Le Champ... uhm, Noah ơi, now looking back, how do you think? Do you regret for playing? Do you hate Bi to ask you, encourage you to do that? Routines and habit give us the confort but challenges strengthern us to growing up and stronger.

Scenery from Le Champ to Tu Le valley is quite majestic and charming, the white clouds wrapped around the mountains, and layers of terraced rice fields spread in the front view.

Tu Le's also very famous for hot spring water. In the rainy cool day, deep body in the hot mineral spring pool is super relaxed.

Sapa so far is a very famous place in Vietnam for tourists, but Vietnamese nowadays prefer Tu Le, La Pan Tan, Mu Cang Chai... than Sapa.

A trip 3 days 2 nights is quite short, we come back Hanoi for some works and prepare for the next trips.

    Ha Long Bay

    August 10, 2023 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Ha Long Bay, located in the Gulf of Tonkin, within Quang Ninh Province, in the northeast of Vietnam, is165 km from the capital of Ha Noi. It includes some 1,600 islands and islets, forming a spectacular seascape of limestone pillars. Because of their precipitous nature, most of the islands are uninhabited and unaffected by a human presence.

So, for sure Ha Long Bay is a must-see-place when Noah comes to Vietnam. And a trip 2 days 1 night by cruise around the Bay is a good option. Bi studied the cruise and decided to select Paradise Grand, one of the best 5 star cruise in Ha Long Bay.

Bi and Noah took limousine from Hanoi to Ha Long and very much enjoyed the beautiful sunset and sunrise on Ha Long Bay, they also happily row the kayak.

The pictures will remind and keep memories of them for this trip.

    August 12, 2023 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 33 °C

Cua Lo will be the first stop-over in the North to South Trip.

We select Cua Lo because of its location and reputation. In this trip, Mommy & Daddy will carry Bi and Noah by car from Hanoi until to Da Nang/Hoi An. After Danang, Two of you, Bi and Noah will take flights/train to continue to the South cities by yourselves (Da Lat, Hochiminh City, Nha Trang).

By car, we will have some stops: Cua Lo, Phong Nha, Hue, Lang Co, Hoi An (Da Nang).

For the 1st place Cua Lo, we will remember an afternoon with seashore clift, the warm beach, and salty coffee drinks in the next morning.

    Hochiminh Hometown

    August 13, 2023 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 33 °C

Hometown of President Ho Chi Minh, Sen Village, Nam Dan Distirct, Nghe An Province, is close to Cua Lo Beach so on the way to Phong Nha, we visited Uncle Ho (Ho Chi Minh) Hometown .

This will be the first page of historical book about Vietnam for Noah.

Sen village is located in Kim Lien commune, Nam Dan district, Nghe An province. The village is the birthplace of the later president Ho Chi Minh.

Like other normal rural villages in Vietnam, Sen village, also called Kim Lien village, is quite tranquil, peaceful and poetic with green bamboo, public well, temple' ground where festivals or crucial occasions of the village taking place.

The house was built by donation and effort of local residents in 1901 to celebrate high result in national examination of Uncle Ho's father Nguyen Sinh Sac. It has been preserved with almost original structure and design, with all simple objects of a Confucianism family like traditional brushes or ink boxes, and popular items that can be seen in any house in rural area such as bamboo mat, trays or rice mortar. Around the house is a lush garden with numerous green plants, including many souvenir trees grown by guests who have visited this place.

Noah raised many questions during visit, the biggest question relating to Uncle Ho's name, Mommy can not give Noah the exact information at that time so we list his main names here to remember together.
    - Ho Chi Minh: from 1942 to 1969;
    - Bac Ho (Uncle Ho): 1946
    - Nguyen Ai Quoc: from 1919 to 1945;
    - Nguyen Tat Thanh: From 1902
    - Nguyen Sinh Cung (Nguyen Sinh Con): From 1890 (birth certificate name)

  • Day 13

Hello Phong Nha Ke Bang, hello Son River

    August 13, 2023 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

Phong Nha - Ke Bang is a provincial town of Bo Trach District, Quang Binh Province. It's widely known as a National Park, that inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2003. It's ~500km far from Hanoi and 200km from Cua Lo Beach.

After a lazy relaxed morning in Cua Lo, we moved toward Phong Nha.

Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park is located in the middle of the Annamite Mountain Range in Quang Binh province, Viet Nam, and shares its boundary with the Hin Namno Nature Reserve in the Lao PDR to the west. The property comprises an area of 123,326 ha and contains terrestrial and aquatic habitats, primary and secondary forest, sites of natural regeneration, tropical dense forests and savanna and is rich in large, often spectacular and scientifically significant caves.

The property contains and protects over 104 km of caves and underground rivers making it one of the most outstanding limestone karst ecosystems in the world. The karst formation has evolved since the Palaeozoic period (some 400 million years ago) and as such is the oldest major karst area in Asia.

We arrive Phong Nha at about 4pm, the selected Phong Nha Escape homestay is quite cute. The homestay locates right on the bank of Son River. The locals here call Son River with a very popular name: the Troc river. This is a tributary of the Gianh river and flows completely on the territory of Quang Binh province. An upstream part of the river is 7,729m long, flows underground in limestone mountains in Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park, and flows out from Phong Nha cave mouth located on Phong Nha village, Son Trach commune, Bo Trach district.

Sun spreads golden rays into the room through a window facing to the river. Can not wait more, we rushed to the river and manage the sup swimming fluently in the flow. Sunset comes down lower, the sun hides behind the roof of the church on the other river bank.

Oh, Phong Nha, we are happy to be here with Son River, deep the body into the cool river flow and totally forget all the difficulties of the life.
