    2 de setembro de 2023, Colômbia ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

We had a lot of rain in the morning, and considering the thunder and lighting, there was potential for a postponement to tomorrow . . . but the weather cleared up enough that we stayed on schedule. We gathered in the central park of Guatape at 1300 for hares away. After a quick chalk talk, I took off to set what was considered the ball buster trail (10+ Kms with the climb). Now there were several options, with one taking a tuktuk to the Rock and just climbing (Thanks for the Mammaries). Option 2 was getting a ride horseback along the way (Mu-sick & B-Flat). Option 3 was catching a tuktuk coming back (Candy Man, Candy Ass, Thanks FTM, Mu-Sick, PeePeePias). And of course the 2 of us that ran the whole thing (the hare and Victoria).

There were plenty of steps just getting to the Rock, and once there it was over 650 to the top. After a couple beers on top, and some views, we headed back down. Everyone was claiming they were going to follow trail going back, but the tuktuk option prevailed, and only two hashers (Victoria & B-Flat) followed after the hare and ran back to town.

  • OUTERAM – Guatape H3 Trail #2 - Start

    3 de setembro de 2023, Colômbia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Our robust pack of 10 gathered for another excursion into trail hashery. It was a bright sunny day (despite the rain forecast), and the park was full of people enjoying a little bit of vacation. What better way to enjoy ourselves than to immediately follow trail out of this mess and towards the outskirts of town. And so it was . . . Hazukashii was the hare (yea, me) and trail headed decidedly uphill right from the start. And so it was . . . Hazukashii was the hare (yea, me) and trail headed decidedly uphill right from the start. Snaking its way through the streets of Guatape, trail eventually made its way to the outskirts of town.

Trail then led into a nature park, and once again, uphill. The check at the entrance to the park seemed to confuse the pack though, as they dithered to and fro seemingly unable to find the blatantly obvious marks up the dirt trail. Why they insisted on looking along the well-groomed, elevated walkway, certainly confused me, as I stood high above them watching the buffoonery. Mu-sick was not to be seen, as he insisted on not even entering the park, but to keep booming up the paved road thinking he was shortcutting. After what seemed an eternity, Victoria finally found the marks right at the entrance to the park and called for the pack to follow. From there, it was just trudging up the hill (with Candyman grumbling the entire way) to the beer check to enjoy the amazing views.

Once the pack had reassembled, and with a beer in hand (less Mu-sick), the hare (yea, me) took off once again headed back into town. Skirting the East side of town, trail used the only escape path out of town in that direction by crossing the bridge for yet another beer check (I know some will never believe it). The same process was repeated, but by this time Mu-sick had finally thought better of his twisted ways, and rejoined the pack. With a keen view of the town, the pack also enjoyed the local police force that was conducting river drills in the inlet. Soon enough, the hare was off again, and headed back over that same bridge to skitter down the malecon.Leia mais

  • OUTERAM – Guatape H3 Circle & Dinner

    3 de setembro de 2023, Colômbia ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

After 5 kms, the trail hit a check, and turned almost back on itself, but on down to the waterfront and onto an awaiting boat bar, where we all enjoyed many adult beverages that led into circle. Not wanting to waste any time with superfluous down downs, circle was turned right over to the pack for accusations. The pack wasted little time, and soon the charges were flying, between numerous songs and laughs. We even conducted two renamings . . . PeePeePies will now be known as Puke of Shame, and C*m Dumpster (ugh, I hate that name) told us a story of hot peppers and consensual adult relations, and gratefully embraced her new name of Hot Pussy Popper (well, it’s a little bit better). After one more round of brews and accusations, with huge smiles on our faces, we concluded circle and headed into town for dinner.

Thanks for the Mammaries led us to her favorite place in town, and we all rejoiced in safety, as shortly after we sat down and ordered . . . about a dozen of Guatape’s finest strolled in and joined us. After dinner, as we made our way back out onto the street, we realized that the rain that was predicted for the day had finally arrived, and we dashed as best we could to our hotels. Another great day on the hash.

  • OUTERAM – Epilogue

    4 de setembro de 2023, Colômbia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

We have had a most wonderful long weekend here in Guatape, Colombia. Far better than could have been expected. After a couple days of orientation and scouting trail, the pack started to arrive on Thursday just in time to kick off this unlikely hash event. I will be publishing a commemorative program, but in summary . . . we had an excellent Okinawa Prelube, a fun opening night social for OUTERAM. Our main event trail to The Rock turned out amazing, and our Sunday trail was also quite entertaining.

Today, our good friend Hot Pussy Popper organized a day on the lake, where we were treated to a historical review of the environment, a most excellent selection of charcuterie, and a relaxing ride on the water. Two bottles of fizzy, a bottle of Scotch, a bottle of Aguardiente, and several cans of beer and seltzer later, we returned to the landing none the worse for wear, with a smile on everyone’s faces. All that is left is get a good night’s sleep, and then proceed back to the airport in the morning. It was a very nice weekend hash event with a bunch of fun hashers.

A day trip out to the UNESCO site at Teotihuacan.

    https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/414

According to the National Geographic . . . "It was built by hand more than a thousand years before the swooping arrival of the Nahuatl-speaking Aztec in central Mexico. But it was the Aztec, descending on the abandoned site, no doubt falling awestruck by what they saw, who gave its current name: Teotihuacan."

Spent a couple hours wandering around this amazing site. Lots of similar looking pictures, but wanted to give an all around view of the wonder of it all. Also, had the opportunity to take a look at some of the local artwork, made of Obsidian. Very interesting.

    9 de setembro de 2023, México ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Having just celebrated their 700th hash two weeks ago (would have liked to been here for that one), I was able to join them yesterday for a most excellent trail in Coyoacan. Hared by Hash Historian Shakesprick, ably assisted by JFK, it was 10 kms of exploring the streets and parks on the south side of Mexico City. I counted 19 hashers on trail, with about a 50/50 split between walkers and runners.

I am very impressed by Mexico City, having spent the past few days exploring here, as well as a day trip out to the pyramids at Teotihuacan (what amazing history). And street tacos . . . don’t get me started. Will be going for a third time to Tony’s Tacos to get my fill today, before heading to the airport first thing tomorrow.

Circle was a lot of fun, led by GM “Dick Chair Tracy” and supported by RA “Shakesprick” . . . they kept the assembled hashers laughing throughout. The whole pack was very friendly, and welcoming. If you ever get the chance to visit Mexico City, make sure to check the hash calendar and attend a hash trail. On On.

A storm blew in over Scotland this weekend, many hashers were delayed coming down from Aberdeen. Despite the 2 extra hours of driving, many still arrived. We had about 65 or so on this trail, in the dark and cold (7C), the rain, the wind blowing, cats and dogs living together . . . Mass hysteria.
The pack was split up into three groups, and we trotted along dodging water puddles making our way between the pubs.

We ended back at the brewery where we started, and enjoyed some good brews and pub grub, along with a short circle. An excellent start to this weekend. Fingers crossed the weather gets better.

  • Bangkok Harriettes #2133

    25 de outubro de 2023, Tailândia ⋅ ☁️ 33 °C

After 5 amazing days in Edinburgh, Scotland, it was back in the air for the next destination . . . Bangkok, Thailand. I was due to land 100 minutes before the hash started, and the start was about 25 kms away. I was a little farther back on the plane than I normally am, but still managed to scramble ahead to get in line at C&I. Ended up in a lane that had two windows, and was through quicker than expected. Straight out the door to the taxi line with 75 min to go, no time for the train. How many times I have played this game of hashing immediately upon arrival . . . or just before departure. Sometimes just getting there is half the fun.

In the taxi, I give the "hubba hubba honcho" sign to the driver, and off we go. I am tracking our progress on Google Maps, and at first it said arrival at 1701. As we hit the highway, we come to a crawl, and Google got up to 1713 arrival, for a 1715 start . . . still no need to worry. In the end, I did walk up to the start at 1708, dashed into the men's room for a quick change into my running kit, and off we go on an interesting 6-7 kms trail (didn't even have time to sync up my Garmin until well into trail).

It averaged about 9 c throughout the week in Edinburgh, last night in Bangkok (hey, that's kind of catchy, maybe I'll write a song) it was 32 c . . . SWEAT MY ASS OFF . . . but it was fun, as always.

Great to see so many familiar faces on the run, and circle, and dinner after. Bangkok always feels like home, (but something tells me I may end up in Scotland again. 🙂 ) I'll get at least 3 more hash trails in here before heading up to Dalat, Vietnam for Mekong.

For some reason, lately, I find that I enjoy running at night and in the dark. Good thing it was a Full Moon trail tonight.

We had a solid pack of over 20 hashers dashing in and out of every side street on our way to the beer. Our hare, Lady Boy, set a solid but sometimes confusing excursion into excellence. True trail was probably only about 6 kms, but several of us overachieved to well past 7 kms, as we meandered along.

A short circle later, we were seated in the local slop chute with good old Thai food being served up. A great night on the hash.

We circled up for some instructions, a greeting to our visitor from Vietnam, and (can you believe it), we had an actual VIRGIN on trail with us. He was an Aussie bloke who had gotten drunk the night before, and was whacked over the head and dragged out to the hash like the Brits used to recruit sailors (the old 2% truth rule in effect here). Then, it was off you go.

Trail headed directly to the temple of closest proximity, through a hole in the fence, and out onto the khlong path. After a long ways we finally turn to the right, and things started to get a bit more interesting. We crossed some railroad tracks, which eventually turned into a brand new train station (where we were instructed to go in door 4, and exit on door 13. Both of which are ominous numbers for various parts of the world).

Finding ourselves out the far corner of the station, trail made its way through an open field, once again on the tracks (apparently some of the slower hounds were accosted by the train constables, but that’s what you get for being slow), and turning right across the tracks for some more sidewalk. Crossing a bridge, at which point the arrows pointed us into a long alleyway, which popped out just in time to find the hares drinking at the beer stop. At this point, it was pretty much a straight shot back to the on home.

In the circle we made our way through all the usual charges, returners, departers, etc . . . Once all the pageantry was over, we cleaned up and headed to the après, where our lead hare arranged the finest shabu shabu for the entire pack, and had the audacity to actually pay for it all (it was also some birthday thing, whatever). Well Done!!

  • Thinking Drinking H3 #78

    3 de novembro de 2023, Vietnã ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

We had 121 hashers turn up for this amazing trail in Da Lat, Vietnam. We gathered at the doorstep of TDH3 central in Da Lat, the TTC Premium hotel, for the 30 minute bus ride out to Golden Valley. Golden Valley is basically a nature preserve, and the hash made full use of the available terrain. After the three busses unloaded, we all circled up to hear from our hares, HAZUKASHII and CALCOHOLIC, on what was in store. The pack was welcomed, but warned of possible Water Buffaloes, Horses, dogs, and the inevitable rise in elevation.

First we headed through the wedding party taking pictures in the forest, the trail skirted the water front, before making its first swift climb towards the skyline. Zigging and zagging through a few checks, the first of many peaks was reached, but fortunately not a water buffalo in sight. Making their way down from the top, a runner & walker split divided the pack based on their level of enthusiasm (about 50/50). The walker’s trail had a short jaunt up the hillside, while the runner’s had a sweeping journey through a small farmer’s village before bottoming out. But only for a moment, as trail took a sharp right turn for a LOOOOONGGG climb back up to the next mountain crest.

There were so many amazing views of the hinterlands, that many hashers forgot the pain they were in, as they soaked up the scenery. After many rises and falls, they eventually merged back with the walker’s trail for the final saunter into the finish where multitudes of beer and food awaited them.

After the pack had replenished, circle was called and Boob-a-loob entertained us as the RA for the day. The hares were called in, followed by all the TDH3 crew for all their efforts. That was followed by all the significant foibles that took place on trail, especially all those klutzy hashers who managed to fall down . . . go boom, some of them more than once. After an hour or so of abusing the pack, the honorific line up of hash virgins were awarded their shirts . . . 21 females, and 18 males were fuckterized into the TDH3 clan.

Then we were wined and dined on a plethora of local delicacies before boarding the busses back to town. All in all, a wonderful day on the hash. No telling when the next TDH3 trail may be . . . keep your eye peeled on the website . . . http://tdh3.gotothehash.net

  • Mekong IndoChina Hash – Main Event

    4 de novembro de 2023, Vietnã ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

It has been a year since we were gathered around the circle in Kampot, Cambodia for the last MIH and the announcement was made that Lao was out, and Da Lat, Vietnam was going to be the host this year. So here we are in Vietnam. The weather has been quite pleasant all week, until today, when it pretty much rained all day, with a few brief intermissions.

We loaded up the busses and made the one hour drive out to the venue for today’s main event. Upon arrival, the rain had already drenched the surroundings, and after a brief intermission, we were sent off on trail, only to get drenched within 15 minutes . . . but hey, once you are soaked through, its Game On!! For only the second time in my hashing days, I sadly waved to the Ball Buster (25 kms) bus as it pulled out without me, as I opted for Long trail, which was only 15 kms. So as you would suspect, we were sloshing along on trail, and most of it was rocky ankle buster terrain, but when it wasn’t it was slippery, with plenty of UPS and downs.

The front end of the long trail runners came in at about 3 hours, the BBs rolled in at about 4+ hours. So that should tell you it was not your average conditions for a smooth trot along trail. On the bright side, upon completion of trail, the venue was all set up with a huge parachute type tent, where the beer was flowing, and various snacks were available. Once everyone had returned, we circled up for a few recognitions of the day’s events. After that, we were delighted with some very excellent local cuisine. And if that was not enough, then out came the entertainment. Dancers, music, fire, the works.

It was a most excellent day, and well done to the Da Lat hashers for hosting the day. Looking forward to tomorrow’s exhibition with high hopes for the same.

On a personal note, yesterday I hared trail for the 700th time, and today it was my 3700th hash. I find it hard to believe I have reaped so much joy and entertainment from the HHH world over the past nearly 40 years. I have had a very fortunate life.

  • Mekong IndoChina Hash – Hangover Trail

    5 de novembro de 2023, Vietnã ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Sunday morning felt a little rough, but after a quick bite to eat and getting the muscles limbered up, it was off to the rodeo. We made our way over to the same start point as yesterday, that started with a quick meeting to decide the next location for MIH . . . it will be off to Pakse, Laos in November 2024.

Our hangover run today, rightly named so, started out as a city run, with lots of small alleyways and dodging scooters. A few hills later, we found the runner/walker split, and the runners moved on to the forest on south end of the city. A few more hills later, we turned into a park and boarded cable cars to return us to the venue for the afternoon (and meet up with the walkers). It was a pleasant 8 kms in the end, with a 2 km ride up over the forest back to town.

Circle was on the hilltop, which was mostly abusing each country's participants, one at a time. Then we moved inside for lunch. This is where things got a little sideways. Lunch was in a huge open area, providing cooking pots on each table for (we call it Shabu Shabu in Japan) . . . gather your own veggies off the trays, and HOPE they bring you some meat and other ingredients. Well that is not how it went down. Seems we were all vegetarians today, as several of the tables at our end of the hall did not get any meat, just a tray of mushrooms and crackers. No major worries, we managed to fill up on what we had, and all was right in the world.

Tomorrow, some will sleep in and relax, others will go for a water park experience. Then, in the afternoon, we’ll gather for another bus ride into the hinterlands for the anticipated postlube . . . the Yangon Full Moon Hash, which is always a delight in the darkness. On On.

After a series of unfortunate occurrences, no need to get into them, I arrived (well to the south of the city) at the run site just as the pack was departing. I was mostly already dressed, so quickly dropping off my bag, I set my Garmin to track and was off on trail. It had been raining, so the trail was . . . moist, shall we say.

Following the paper to the first check, things already felt great to be back in the jungles of Malaysia. All the various levels of trees offer so many options for the hare to stump the pack. Anyway, trail was soon found in the opposite direction in which I was looking, so had to scamper back and catch up.

Trail was 100% off road out in the wilderness, climbing from terrace to terrace of tree lines in search of the next square of paper. After an hour, and 6+ kms of fun, we all eventually turned up back at the start. Enjoying a couple beers and talking to the other hashers, the GM eventually called us into circle for some recognitions, as day turned to night. Finally starting to dry off, I changed into my old sarong and dry shirt, for the drive to the on after . . . where we enjoyed a tasty selection of local cuisine.

Then, I happily accepted a ride for the 45 minute journey back into the city. A hot shower and dry bed later, here I am ready to get a good night’s sleep. Hope you all have a good one as well. On On

  • The Hash House in Malaysia

    9 de novembro de 2023, Malásia ⋅ 🌧 29 °C

I had the opportunity today, to get a tour of the progress being made on the real Hash House here in Kuala Lumpur. Outstanding progress, and so much has been done by just a few local hashers. I want to emphasis something, this is NOT a Royal Selangor project, and it is NOT a Mother Hash project, but Mother Hash have been huge supporters . . . the primary work is all being done by the HASH HERITAGE FOUNDATION (HHF).

As you can see from the pictures, there is still a bit of structural work being done, but the roof is nearly complete, the walls are going to be finished very soon. Then the inside tables, doors, desks, stage, etc will be installed. After a big clean up of the building and grounds, grass will be planted and trees planted to make it all appear modern and fashionable. The plan is to have some kind of grand opening next summer, but is already available for local hash clubs to use for rudimentary events. The area around the Hash House is excellent hashing terrain, and I have run a hash or two in the area over the years.
