    I made it a whole week into the new year without a hash, but today that all changed. Caught up with the gang in Edinburgh for a somewhat chilly 5 mile dash through the trails south of the city.     We had a fun trail that started in Mineralwell Park in the center of Stonehaven. After wiggling our way to the edge of town, trail then started working its way through the forest and countryside. Bouncing through a few neighborhoods and small parks, the pack then found themselves headed out of town and out to the amazing Ury House. Ury House was built in 1885, on an estate that dates back to 1413. Plenty of history in every direction, the pack seemed to enjoy it all. This was my first time to hare in Scotland, and with a lovely co-hare, Fireflaps. So the question came up on how many countries I have hared in, and that would now be 42 (well, actually 41 since Antarctica is not considered a country, but have hared on all 7 continents).Baca lagi

    Driving out of Stonehaven, everything looked fine as a nice morning for a run. But as we made our way out of town, and gained elevation, we soon found that there was snow. It actually snowed so hard that much of the trail ended up being covered . . . so it was quite an adventure, but with a little help from the hares we managed to complete over 5 miles of foot stomping fun (including a water crossing, damn). By the time we finished, the sun was out and brightly shining. The on after was in the opposite direction, so some of us went back to Stonehaven for a bite to eat, and a couple of us ended up staying there all afternoon, sampling whisky.     We met behind Staples just off Dale Mabry, on a cool evening. By the time of hares away, it was already dark . . . and that is often the best time to live hare a trail (and so I did). Although we were in the center of town, trail still managed to find some soft ground to enjoy. We also found some quiet parks and alleyways to dart through. The runners got at least 4 miles of fun, and the walkers had the opportunity to cut off about a mile, but most of them just aborted trail at about halfway and B lined to the end (we did have one visitor who actually did the walking trail in full.)

    It had been a few months, and a few countries since I last hashed with the JRH3 . . . so I had a stash of 7-8 shirts that I brought back to give away. Only 9 other hashers turned up, so just about everyone got a shirt . . . and Dab brought some local shirts and piled on as well. All in all, the runners had a good time, the walkers . . . walked. We followed up a short circle with dinner at the Brick House, and all was right in the world.    Baca lagi

    It was actually a joint run with the Lakeland H3. BARF H3 is supposed to be kid friendly, but there we no kids at this hash. It was pretty much all middle aged couch potatoes, and trail was only about 2 miles of walking, and not very trail like, as you can see from the map.     Taco Tuesday H3 – Taco Mile! (plus beer)

    So . . . we were trying something new. Our hares, Haystack & Snatch, organized the event which was basically eat a taco, run a lap, drink a beer, run a lap . . . and repeat until 4 laps (2 tacos & two beers consumed) were completed. Since I do not drink on trail, I requested to simply do the taco mile, eating 4 tacos while running my laps. And so it was. We had about a dozen total doing the event, and eating four tacos was not as easy as it may seem. After this, we had a short circle to award the winner, and then we had hares away for an actual hash trail.

    Trail was an additional 2.5 miles rounding out the hash to about 3.5 miles. An excellent day on the hash, and fun, fun I tell you, was had by all (even the ones that puked). 😊    Baca lagi

    After yesterday’s Taco Tuesday H3 trail, there was quite a bit of interest in hashing again today . . . so I quickly arranged to set a 5 mile semi-shiggy trail. We had 9 hashers all together, for a dash around St Pete. It was nice to have a warm evening again, after the polar blast over the past couple weeks. After a quick circle, we meandered over to Glory Days for a bit of pub grub, and called it a night. On On . . . And it was a full moon.Baca lagi

    Just a quick prelube trail by the local hash club, to send us off on the next week of hashing the Caribbean. We board tomorrow afternoon, with intended port calls in the Bahamas, Jamaica, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman.
    We had 30 hashers on a pleasant 5k jog around Cocoa Beach under a nearly full moon, with a beer check on the beach. Then some pub grub at the local Irish Bar.    Baca lagi

    JRH3 Pirate Invasion Cruise 24 - Bahamas

    We stormed the beach (of Great Stirrup Cat), and took no prisoners. After stacking the corpses on the beach, we commenced with a 1 mile hash trail (damn island is tiny) . . . but as you can see, I had to do a little extra scouting just in case we ever come back. Or, maybe it was the check back 77 . . . who can be sure? While making my way around the back side of the beach area, I got chased down by a couple security folks (lets just call them golf cart ninjas), who promptly got me turned around.

    After an hour of ocean swimming, we circled up in the water and abused some of the pack that managed to do stupid things (yup, me included). As we walked back to the tenders, we just happened to walk past the bar, and you know, whatever. Had to stop for a couple beers and sing some songs.
    Tomorrow is a day at sea, as we make our way to Falmouth, Jamaica, where anything can happen (yup again, my turn to set trail). 😝😆😝

    I did not take any pictures of trail (just a few getting off the boat), but others did . . . and I'll post them once I get them.    Baca lagi

    JRH3 Pirate Invasion Cruise 24 – Jamaica

    This was my first time in Jamaica, so another new country to hash in (make that the 125th country for me). I also had the good luck to be the hare. Heading off the ship at 0800, first thing, I had 3 hours to scout trail (did 8 miles worth) and then pick up some flour. My first 75 minutes of scouting turned out to be fruitless, but was able to work the other side of town in time to get a solid 4-5 mile trail organized. Swinging back over to the cruise port, the pack was already at the designated meeting point, so we were ready to go.

    The pack of about 30 sent me off to live hare the trail, and off I went. Trail had plenty of shiggy, back alleys, dirt tracks, rickety bridges, and even a short section along the sea. The pictures tell the story. Lifa took on the RA duties, and all was well.    Baca lagi

    It was about 10 or 11 years ago, the last time we ventured out on trail in the Cayman Islands. As I recall, it was a street trail that ended in HELL. True story, there is a place on the island named HELL. There is a pile of old lava rocks in an open field behind a bar . . . sounds a little like hell, right?!?!

    I guess Rectal was tasked to recreate the that trail, so we met at Cemetery Beach, and ran to HELL. Any questions? On On

    JRH3 Pirate Invasion Cruise 24 – Cozumel

    Final port call of this cruise, and we are in the legendary tourist destination of Cozumel. The designated hares had a bit of trouble when one of them unfortunately lost her wallet, but they pressed on and set trail. It ended up only being about 3 miles, so I was asked to add a mile or two for the runners, which I did live . . . after running along about half way, when trail went straight, I started marking with a R/W split and took the runners to the right. After an additional mile and a half, trail merged at the designated beer stop on the coast . . . the Thirsty Cougar. From there, trail made its way back to the starting park for circle.

    Circle was a rousing extravaganza, with all the usual stunts, and one additional naming . . . Just Ed will now be known as An Audi Broke My Heiny. Yes, it’s a long name, but the pack was pretty unanimous in selecting it, so we’ll go with it. We had two visitors from Sweden join us at the end, so we hung around and drank a couple beers with them, and then since it was getting late we had to scurry back to the ship.     Just back off the cruise, and after picking up my rental car . . . I had just enough time to head over to the O2H3. It was a mostly pavement pounder, with hardly any checks or turns for that matter. We basically just made a 4 mile loop around the mall. BUT, it was good to just get out and run.Baca lagi

    Wrapping up my annual medical exams in Florida, post Jolly Roger Hash Cruise, and managed to cram in 3 more hash trails over the past few days. [Jolly Roger H3, Tampa Bay H3, and Sarasota Circus H3 (the Super Bowl Party).] Pretty much all street / sidewalk trails, so nothing much to talk about, but always good to get some miles under my feet. Gearing up for a month down under and hashing in Australia and New Zealand, with a side trip to the Cook Islands and a hash with the Rarotonga H3.Baca lagi

    Kicking off our prelube cruise to INTERHASH, we had a Red Dress Run with the Sydney Thirsty H3. I have not had a trail with this club since December 1997, just over 26 years ago. As I recall, they had just started, and at that time they called themselves the Thirsty Thursday H3 (and also when I met Haggisimo). Anyway, they now run every Thursday, and one Saturday a month . . . so I guess we caught them on the right Saturday.

    We had a large pack, with about 40 from the cruise, and probably another 20-25 local hashers. Trail was through the city, with a long section along the beach, making it an interesting 5.5 miles of fun (with my old ass coming in as FRB). Circle was pretty raucous, and even had a naming. We then adjourned to a local sports facility for food and more beverages, and sang a few songs. A very good start to the prelube.    Baca lagi

    After a day at sea, we arrived in Melbourne first thing this morning (last time I was in Melbourne was for the prelube to Tasmania Interhash back in 2000. Back then, we did a thing called the Chapel Street Chunder Run, which was as I recall . . . a 5 k with 20 beer stops). Many of the hashers had morning excursions, like bike rides and various other site seeing, I just enjoyed a nice walk about town. The start was about a one mile walk from the cruise port, and we all gathered at the Port Melbourne Bowling Club for a one o’clock start . . . but we had a bit of delay. Once we got all our instructions, the pack split up into 4 options . . . first was a short walk for those that were not up for much trail, and they went off on their own. The other 3 options were longer walk (5 k), regular run (8 K), and super eagle (10 K), and we were off for a short 2 km jog to a tram station. From there, we rode along the city, each getting out at a different stop, and then followed trail back to the bowling club.

    By the time we all finished, it was getting late, so a short 15 minute circle was conducted and then we hoofed it back to the boat. Many thanks to the MCH3 for putting on this special trail for us on a Tuesday afternoon (their regular trail will be tomorrow evening). So now we are back on the boat, and headed south towards Tasmania, where we’ll hash in Hobart on Thursday. Tomorrow we’ll have a day at sea, and an onboard hash.    Baca lagi

    A Day at Sea H3

    As we make our way from Melbourne down to Hobart, we had another long day at sea . . . so what to do? Let's have a trail onboard. So they gave me a stack of post-it notes, and away I go. We covered probably over 1000 meters as we snaked our way along passageways, climbed stair, and even rode an elevator at one point. All in all, it made the day go by quicker . . . Tomorrow we go ashore for another running trail, in Tasmania.Baca lagi

    Chardonnay H3 (Hobart, Tasmania)

    Last time I was here, was for INTERHASH 2000. The Chardonnay H3 set the Red Dress run for well over 1000 hashers back then. This time we gathered at 1300 on a Thursday, and the local hash put on a trail for us, which was very kind. Trail started from the “Hope & Anchor Tavern” that is the oldest continuously licensed pub in Australia. Prices were not old though, beer was $14 AUD, and the soda was $8.50 . . . yowser.

    At the appropriate time, the hares called us all together on the street for a quick chalk talk, and off we went. Runners enjoyed a 9 km trail (walkers got 5) that headed out of town passing the war memorial, and then out through a park. Some people thought it was too hot out at 33 C, but felt quite normal to me.

    As the pack started returning to the pub after trail, we eventually circled up for a few down downs. The hares had to get back to work, but a few locals were able to hang out with as we circled up. We had a fun circle with several good songs, and then back to the floating hotel. On On to three days of open seas as we head to New Zealand, next stop Dunedin on Monday.    Baca lagi

    Local hasher "Sirloin" set us an excellent trail about town. Dunedin was once the economic center of NZ, when gold was discovered nearby . . . but has now settled into being a quiet clean friendly little town. Many thanks to Sirloin for showing us around.

    There were very few actual runners, maybe 8 or so. Then the power walkers rocked up, followed by the happy walkers. There was a beer stop at 6.5 kms, that turned into circle. We then made the last 2 kms back to the start, and had some lunch in town before heading back to the ship. A grand day.    Baca lagi

    Had a most excellent trail here in Wellington today. Several local hashers set us a nice nearly 6 mile trail from down town, up to Mt Victoria. Walkers finished at 4 kms, and then the runners got another 6 km loop back up over and around the mountain, to finish back at the beer check. Probably the best trail we have run on this cruise.     This is it, last trail of the cruise, and it is a special one. Up and over Mount Maunganui, in a repeat of the infamous trail at InterHash 1994. Trail boasted of a beer check on top, but when the pack arrived . . . there was no beer. Then off in the distance, a helicopter could be heard . . . but what’s that? Something suspended below it. WHAT? Is that a pallet of beer? It was in deed, and all the Whos in Whoville were so happy.

    There was no pallet of beer delivered today, but there was plenty available at the end. Many thanks the M2H3 for hosting us today, for an excellent trail and circle. Tomorrow we are off the boat for good.    Baca lagi

    They normally run on Monday evenings, and are a men only club . . . but this special run for the throngs of arriving hashers headed to Queenstown was an excellent day. I have not run with this club since I was here for the Perth IH prelube back in 2008. Good to be back.

    We gathered in the center of town by the Britomart Train Station, where about 50 eventually turned up to take on the streets of Auckland. It was an excellent 8.5 km 'A to B' effort, that passed through a few parks on its way. Three beer stops (four if you do NZ math and you know how to follow the crazy criss-cross marks on trail where you hit the same one twice), kept the pack slowed down, but we eventually made our way to Victoria Park for a sausage barbee and circle.
