      Rifugio dei Mele

      We had a wonderful dinner in Nocelle where we were staying at Rifugio dei Mele restaurant on Sunday. Beautiful view of the Mediterranean sea as well as a delicious bottle of white wine made locally. We finished off the evening with fresh lemoncello and lemon sorbet. Lemons originated on the Amalfi coast here in Italy and we were happy to sample them from their birthplace. The air up here has a faint smell of lemon and the sea which is very enjoyable. Before we left the next town over and below us treated us to a fireworks display.Læs mere

      Nocelle und der Götterweg

      Der wahrscheinlich berühmteste Wanderweg der Amalfiküste ist der „Sentiero degli dei“, der sogenannte Götterweg. Seinen Namen verdankt der Wanderweg an der Amalfiküste den vielen Tempeln, die sich zur Römerzeit auf diesem Pfad befanden.
      Mit ungefähr zehn Kilometern Länge führt der Götterweg von Agerola nach Cocelle.
      Wir sind nur wenige Kilometer gelaufen, nachdem uns der Bus von Positano nach Cocelle gebracht hat. Auch wenn nur ein kurzes Stück, war es sehr eindrucksvoll.

      Path of the Gods

      The Path of the Gods or Sentiero degli Dei links the tiny hilltop town of Agerola with Nocelle, a fraction of Positano nestled on the slopes of Monte Peruso. We were mostly plenty in that we stayed in Nocelle the previous night, and had our next BnB in Furore (just below Agerola). However that meant we were doing the hike with our 30Lb backpacks. Definitely one of the hardest hikes I've ever done, when you factor in the weight.

      The worst part was after we arrived in Agerola, Furore was another about 1000 steps down (maybe 800-900). I'm surprised I'm upright at all this morning.

      Day 6, Part 1/2– Cooking class AKA Darty

      This morning we woke up, and you guessed it— had breakfast at the hotel! I can’t stress how beautiful the hotel grounds are. Terraces of perfectly manicured flora and fauna everywhere you turn. I’ll post pictures, but they won’t do it justice. At 9am, we left the hotel for a cooking class at La Tagliata in Positano. https://www.latagliata.com/cooking-class Little did we know, it was going to be a wine-fueled festa! The class is held at a family owned restaurant and working farm. They have multiple gardens full of eggplant, tomatoes, herbs, onions, peppers… everything you’d need for an Italian restaurant menu! But it doesn’t end with the vegetables. They also have chickens for fresh eggs, rabbits (some are pets, some… aren’t), Guinea pigs (all pets!), hunting dogs, pheasants and other birds, cows, goats and sheep for cheese, a donkey, emu… the list goes on. All well-kept and healthy. Not one unpleasant aroma detected. After picking our own veggies including digging up potatoes which I’ve never done and saying hi to all the animal friends,, we headed back to the class area where we were greeted by the sounds of “Gasolina”, and a ceremonial dance (lol). A lot of gasolina, aka Falanghina, made on site, was served throughout the morning. It was so crisp and delicious— we’re bringing a bottle home. Wish we could bring more! We were then served an assortment of snacks made from the garden, including a delicious olive and hot pepper goats milk cheese. The class started out with dessert— two types of tiramisu. Traditional coffee and a limoncello/orange flavor. Next we moved onto two types of bruschetta, potatoes and zucchini flowers, eggplant Parmesan, gnocchi pomodoro and potato croquettes. In between each project, we’d sit down to eat what we made, or another snack they’d give us, including a house made ricotta ravioli with sauce genovese, which is a pork ragu. Matt and I actually couldn’t even eat the gnocchi and eggplant, so they packed it up for us (I’m not writing this entry in real time— we tried it this morning and it was FANTASTIC. Will be making at home!!). The party— I mean class— lasted until about 3:00… or maybe later! We had to leave because our driver was waiting. Everything here takes a long time, which is just a fact, not a complaint. Anyway, I would HIGHLY recommend this class. It was super fun and super delicious. Go hungry!!! And thirsty 😜.Læs mere

      Moving on to Positano

      Today we found out the train people are on strike. Luckily we got on one of the only trains this morning to Sorrento so we could catch 2 more buses to reach Positano. Both buses were packed with standing room… in 38 degrees. We reached our picturesque air bnb in a small town called Montepertuso then had our first pasta lunch. To work it off we walked down 40mins of winding stairs to Positano so we could spend the afternoon at the beach. The water was amazing, but you have to be careful not to get salt eyes! Had a quick dinner and walked up more sets of stairs back to catch the bus to the air bnb. Unfortunately, the bus beat Matt, thankfully an Australian nurse provided a plastic bag for the vomit. Finishing off the evening with a trip to the local market and some lemoncello drinks on the balcony for 2…Læs mere

      Amalfi coast

      A wonderful part of Italy, full of travel by staircases and steep cliffs in all directions! We have enjoyed some serious hiking and relaxing, strolling and gelato. Now on the big boat on our way to Capri and Anacapri for the day from Sorrento.Læs mere

      Rented a boat all day from http://www.lasibilla.org. Went south to Positano, out to some really nice islands including Gallo Lungo with the best snorkeling so far (and kids trying to learn to dive off the boat), and then north as far as Maiori.Læs mere

      Amalfi Coast

      After breakfast in the hotel at 8.00am, the bus departed full of excited Australians keen to explore the Amalfi Coast. Danielle, our guide, explained the history of the area as we marveled at the scenery from the bus and at the various stops along the way to take photos. It must be at the top of the list of the most amazing coastal drives in the world. We were blessed with sunny weather today so the coast looked its best.
      We stopped for photos at Positano, but spent most of our time in the township of Amalfi. We all met in the town square, but then went off to do our own thing. Some of us walked up high in the hills behind the town to explore the spectacular countryside and the waterfalls that supply the town with prodigious amounts of water.
      I also went to the single working paper mill and museum still operas with machines used for traditional paper making. If ever someone finds themselves in Amalfi, this museum is highly recommended. I actually got the chance to make paper from cotton distributed on water. Amalfi used to be the best paper manufacturer in the western world, and there were over 20 paper mills in the Main Street of Amalfi, all powered by the river running down the centre of town. Today there is only one paper mill and it operates as a museum as well as keeping the traditional paper making methods alive for visitors.
      I also visited the shipping museum. Amalfi was one of the four maritime powers of Italy, the others being Pisa, Genoa and Venice, and their ships were famous for the products they traded around the world. The museum has a galleon of the kind they moved goods around the Mediterranean during the heights of their maritime power. It was also interesting to see the towers from which they watched for pirates and warned the population from when pirates approached the shoreline.
      After spending the afternoon in Amalfi, which for many included a swim in the Mediterranean, we caught a ferry from Amalfi to Salerno and then the bus back to Sorrento. The views of the Amalfi Coast from the ferry were amazing, particularly with the dark clouds as a backdrop and rain on the seaward horizon.
      On the bus ride home, we watched the sun sink into the Mediterranean in the Bay of Naples, with Vesuvius lit up and golden in the diminishing daylight.
      Upon our return to Sorrento, we briefly stopped into our hotel before heading out for dinner in the township of Sorrento, our last evening in this beautiful town so famous for its coastline, its seafood and plentiful citrus and lemoncello.
      We had dinner at Restaurant Fuoro located on Via Fuoro which was spectacular. I had spaghetti carbonara, which is made with strong pancetta, and a lemon mousse dessert that was shaped like a lemon and had three layers, each as tasty as the next. A tasty way to end the stay in Sorrento. Tomorrow morning we arise early to travel to Siena.

      Ship to shore

      Heute ging es für uns raus auf hohe See. Von Salerno ging es für uns die Amalfiküste entlang, sogar über Positano hinaus. Nach einer kleinen Erkundungstour, haben wir in einer Bucht Halt gemacht und das kühle Mittelmeer genossen. Kapitän Boos hat uns im Anschluss an seine Schnorcheltour sicher wieder in den Hafen gebracht. 🚤🌊Læs mere

      Schöner Tag mit Sonnenschein am Morgen, Einkaufen in einer tollen Stadt mit originalem Charme, Blick auf den Vesuv, viel Segeln (Aufkreuzen) nach Positano

      Regatta wieder gut durchkreuzt, 😂, hautnah mittendrin. Spannend.
