      Venafro

      Comme tous les matins, nous nous élançons de bonne heure, mais cette fois-ci, nous sommes 3 !

      Enzo, notre hôte, nous accompagnera sur les 10 premiers kilomètres avec son vélo adapté.
      Le soleil est avec nous et réchauffe doucement cet air matinal encore bien frais... Ça fait du bien !

      C'est sans détour que l'on file en direction de la ville de Venafrone, pour rejoindre un hôtel et nos quelques jours de pause ! Enfin... La semaine aura été rude !

      C'est un tout autre décor qui s'offre à nous. Nous avons l'impression d'être à la montagne, et c'est beau :)      Read more

      Day 41–44

      Pause à Venafro

      Petite pause dans le village de Venafro, perdu dans les montagnes italiennes dans la région de Molise.

      Nous avons élu domicile dans un bel établissement, mi hôtel, mi B&B. On en a rapidement pris possession et on se sent comme chez nous :)

      Cette pause sera l'occasion de visiter le musée de la Winterline et d'en apprendre plus sur le rôle de l'Italie durant la WW2 (fait dire qu'on en savait pas beaucoup...)
      C'est Luciano, un passionné, qui a créé ce musée uniquement avec des objets ramassés sur le terrain. C'est incroyable ce qu'il a fait ! Nous avons le droit à une visite privée du musée. Ses anecdotes nous transportent, on s'y croirait.
      La chaleur italienne frappe encore et il nous emmène ensuite prendre l'apéro en plein pendant le carnaval de la ville. Un super moment de partage !

      Nous aurons fêté la St Valentin avec une super pizza de chez Flames... Et une bouteille de vin bien sûr !

      Le tout aura été complété avec un peu de sport, de balades dans le cœur historique de la ville, un peu de boulot et beaucoup de glandouille :)      Read more

      Campitello Matese & Roccamandolfi

      We've got up at 4:30am again. But started at 5:20am. All the clothes and shoes are wet. So I switched to the dry second T-shirt and shorts. But I've used the wet shoes and socks. They got drenched in some minutes anyway. Lots of grass to walk thru and that's really wet.
      Today I am tired. And don't have much energy to hike fast or far. The path to the ski resort was like in the Alps. Tricky to hike and not too slip. Not really well marked. You need to watch to the GPS frequently. So in all a bit up and down. But took much longer as usual.
      The scenery with that cold and someone's foggy weather was interesting. But the ski resort was more like a construction yard with only 2 workers. So we've immediately hiked further to the next small village.
      That's where we buy some food and charge the phone in a bar again.

      Today is the same as everyday now. The room against the time. The rain will arrive between noon and evening. But today we have no real destination to stay. So we must decide on the go.

      10:30am and 15km trail already. Now it gets uphill again. In the heat I guess. Not too much water on the way. That can be problematic with the dog sometimes. Let's see.      Read more

      Day 70

      Bivacco Dell'Esule

      In the afternoon, after the coffee break, we've been lucky for awhile. It was still warm. And nice to walk uphill. Nice views. The area could be in the Alps too. So similar. The thunder always listening from far, it started just before the pass to rain. Only a drizzle and walking below the leafy trees or is no problem at all. But on the downhill to the lake (which is pretty full of water now) the rain got stronger and the thunder closer. And no protection anymore. There is a chapel and fountain close. A chapel with an entrance roof! Rarely here. That was already s good place. But we've ascended in the rain 350m higher to the mountain meadows. There is s simple Bivacco. On the downside I was drenched completely. It does not get dry in a none heated Bivacco. So I hope I can dry it somehow the next day. But the weather forecast is not that good actually.

      Skigebiet Roccaraso

      Es ging heute weiter ins Skigebiet Roccaraso.Skilifte natürlich alle zu 🤪 und auch wenn wir im Urlaub meist vergeblich ein geöffnetes Restaurant finden, ist hier natürlich mitten in der Pampa ne Hütte offen 😳 Nachts war es dann doch rech kalt geworden..Morgens um 8.00 Uhr hatten wir -1° ..brrr..Read more

      Roccaraso Skigebiet

      Heute sind wir mal wieder in die Berge gefahren, ins Skigebiet Roccaraso. Man muss sich wundern, wie viele Leute hier hochgurken, nur um mal kurz zu gucken…
      Was soll ich sagen, Gela findet die Aussicht doof, während das total meins ist, Nix steht mir weit und breit im Weg… vielleicht fahren wir später noch wieder runter auf einen der anderen Parkplätze, da war’s ja auch ganz nett…

      Nach der Hunderunde nochmal umgeparkt…
      Etwas weiter ins Tal rein, war auch der Alpa wieder artgerecht unterwegs und hat ordentlich Staub aufgewirbelt… viel ruhiger und Aussicht auch schön…

      San Pietro Avellana

      We've stopped for late lunch and coffee in San Pietro Avellana. And it started to rain. Unbelievable. 11.:20am! But already collected 30km.
      Despite holiday, the small shop has had open. I've got food for the dog and myself.
      In this village there are really friendly people. Someone offered me an umbrella and in the Cafe, I've got the voice for free. After awhile, the sun came out again and we started again. But then I realized, that around us it is dark black and you can listen to the thunder from far. That's problematic with Lupo, who is afraid. But we've started anyway and after some km we've found an old farm. In the middle of nowhere and stopped for food again. Lupo is tired and want to stop. 4pm and 37.5km so far.

      Standortwechsel in den Abruzzen

      Der Blick zum offenen Heckfenster beschert auch heute gleich wieder gute Laune zum Morgen 😊 Von der Terrasse sieht man sogar das Gran Sasso Massiv, anstatt es nur zu erahnen. 🤗
      Nach dem Frühstück (erwartungsgemäß keksiges Brot 😉) packen wir zusammen und fahren weiter. Ziel ist Camping Wolf in einem anderen Nationalpark der Abruzzen.
      Die Autostrada meiden wir heute 😬 Dafür nehmen wir zwangsläufig eine Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzung von 50km/h in Kauf 🙄😆
      Auf dem neuen Campingplatz ist viel Platz. Schnell ist was passendes gefunden und schon geht es auf eine kleine Erkundungstour in die Umgebung. Erst nach oben in das kleine Dörfchen Civitella Alfedena, wo wir schon mal mögliche Startpunkte für unsere Wanderung morgen ausfindig machen. Dann nach unten an den Lago di Barrea, an dem es ein kleines unschönes Ausflugslokal gibt, das von Einheimischen an einem sonnigen Sonntag wie heute stark frequentiert wird. Immerhin gibt es Kaffee, Eis und hübsche Pferde 😊
      Am späten Nachmittag faulenzen wir ein wenig und warten ab, bis ein Ristorante öffnet.. Mit 19:30 Uhr sind die Italiener ein bisschen spät dran für unser Empfinden 😇😉
      Richtig schick sitzen wir nun bei gutem Wein und einem leckeren Gruß aus der Küche in entspannter, uriger Atmosphäre eines alten Gewölbes, während draußen ein Gewitter das nächste jagt.. 😏

      Zurück zum Campingplatz im Dunkeln, vernehmen wir aus allen Himmelsrichtungen die Brunftrufe der Hirsche. Teilweise richtig nah. Wir kommen am Auto an und siehe da... sie gehen da ganz entspannt auf 5 Meter Abstand neben einem spazieren. Das kann ja eine Nacht werden. 🐗      Read more

      On the Backs of Horses

      Lunch consisted of a wonderful haute cuisine Italian dinner at a restaurant, Mammi Locanda. That town of Agnone specializes in a certain kind of cheese known as coccia di cavallo (horseback cheese). In the old days farmers union would sling two huge wheels of it over the back of a horse, hence the name. We had a an appetizer made out of this local cheese with puréed peas, a tomato risotto with fresh cream and basil, Roasted chicken with a garnish of horseradish mustard, spinach, and puréed carrots. Dessert was a chocolate trio served with coffee ice cream. I have never had a more magnificent meal.Read more
