      Aquardens!

      Thermal baths just aren’t really a thing in the US. I finally realized what is so odd about them…no life guards!! And this place was huge. So many pools and places to relax, both indoor and outdoors. The water was 35 C which is really comfortable. With the package we bought the adults got to go into the spa area. So Michael and I decided to check it out while Ian napped with Mom. We had to change out of our normal bathing suits and into some weird disposable bathing suit that was heat proof. The woman at the desk said we could join a “ritual” if we wanted to. We had no idea what this meant. Anyway I noticed there is a schedule on the wall and that it is nearly time for the Nordic relaxation ritual in the Russian bath. Whatever that meant. Then Michael noticed a little basket that was supposed to have tokens. It appeared all of the tokens were gone, but then we noticed behind the sign that two remained. I quickly grabbed them. Right then a couple people came over also trying to get tokens. Tough luck for them. We followed the herd of people all in their weird disposable bathing suits to the Russian baths dropped our tokens in the basket and entered. The dude leading the “ritual” says a bunch of stuff really fast in Italian and I catch a list of essential oils and that it will last twelve minutes. He and this other dude then put what looks like a snow ball on the hot rocks and the room fills with scents. Pleasant. They then start to wave flags. Weird. The point of it appears to be to waft the scent around. Okay. That’s nice. And then it starts to get real. The real purpose is to redistribute heat. And this thing is hot like the goddam sun. By the end Michael and I (and all the other people) are drenched in sweat and I thought my contact lens would fuse to my eyeballs while my skin would burst into flame. At one point I felt cold almost because I think my nerves were totally whacked. Oh yeah and this really loud German language music was playing. So weird. But I did feel great by the end of it. Since we only had about forty five minutes to spend in the spa this was totally the way to go. Overall we spent about eight hours at the complex and it was a great day!Read more

      Es ist hot am Gardasee

      Nach einer Abenteuerlichen Fahrt in der uns Google Maps immer wieder in Sackgassen und über Brücken für 3 t Fahrzeuge gelotst hat, sind wir verschwitzt und ich zusätzlich noch etwas gestresst hier neben der Therme angekommen.
      Ich glaube, hier ist der einzige Platz auf dem man rund um den Gardasee kostenlos stehen kann.
      Da wir heute Abend mit Christine und Bernhard Im fünf Sterne Hotel Quellenhof Essen gehen, brauche ich dringend noch ein Oberteil, da meine T-Shirts dazu nicht geeignet sind... also rein ins nächste Einkaufszentrum und so schnell als möglich mit T-Shirt-Beute wieder raus. 😁
      Phuuu- das überfordert mich.

       Ich freu mich voll die beiden nach so langer Zeit wieder zu sehen.

      Jetzt noch bissl chillen und dann mit dem Motorrad zum 14 km entfernten Quellenhof Luxury Resort 😋😋.....

      Wir hatten einen wundervollen, kulinarischen Abend mit tollen Gesprächen und schönem Zusammensein. Wir waren eingeladen - das Essen und die Getränke waren wirklich ein Highlight.

      Schön, dass es Freundschaften gibt, die trotz aller Unterschiedlichkeiten über 40 jahre anhalten.

      Bella Italia in der Poebene

      🗒️In der Nacht regnet es zum Teil heftig, aber das Zelt ist wie immer dicht und pünktlich morgens um 6:00 hört der Regen auf und um 7:00 guckt die Sonne über die Hügel und scheint aufs Zelt. Hatten somit gestern trotz Dunkelheit einen guten Platz gefunden 🙂. Zum Start gehts weiter hoch in den Parco Regionale dei Colli Euganei. Man kann weit in die Poebene hinein Richtung Meer gucken, sehr schön im Morgenlicht. Belohnt für die Anstrengung werden wir mit der Abfahrt. Den Colli selber lassen wir links liegen, hier wehen ein paar Wölkchen in hohem Tempo drüber. Wir kurven zwischen den Weinbergen ins Tal. Unten empfängt auch uns der Wind und bläst uns entgegen, so kommen wir trotz flacher Strecke langsamer mit nur 18 km/h voran und es ist viel anstrengender. Landschaftlich schön: Weinberge, Felder, Dörfer mit bunten oder alten Häusern, Kirchen und in der Ferne die Alpen. In San Gregorio machen wir in einer Bar Pause. Hier ist am Sonntag Vormittag viel los. Das ganze Dorf scheint sich auf ein Getränk zu treffen. Auch wir werden direkt angesprochen, woher, wohin…sehr nette Atmosphäre. Gestärkt kämpfen wir weiter gegen den Wind, immer Richtung Westen bis nach Verona. Dort machen wir Pause auf der Piazza dei Signori. Kinder spielen Fußball, eine Frisbee wird geworfen und Eis geschleckt. Alle sind am genießen der Sonntagssonne. Anschließend gehts kurz durch die Stadt über den Piazza delle Erbe zur Arena. Es ist unglaublich viel los. Menschenmassen sind unterwegs. Das sind wir nicht mehr gewöhnt. Es zieht uns raus aus der Stadt. Weiter gehts an der Etsch entlang vorbei an der Ponte di Castelvecchio zum Canale Biffis. Dort an einem Café nochmals Pause. Ein kleines Stück schaffen wir im Anschluss noch weiter entlang am Canale Biffis bis nach Sega. Dort ein schneller Einkauf und im Dunkeln finden wir hinter den Reben an der Etsch ein Nachtlagerplatz. Zwar steht hier man soll vorsichtig sein wegen Flutwellen, aber das Unwetter ist ja vorbei. Kochen uns noch Gnocchi in Tomatensoße. Es ist mittlerweile Abends kalt und ungemütlich, ist ja auch bereits November und wir kommen wieder nördlicher 😢.Read more

      We had lunch at the Alighieri Winery. This property was bought by Dante Alighieri's son about the time of his father's death. It has been in the family ever since. We were served a lovely Tuscan meal complete with wine and a tour of the vineyards.Read more

      Driving into Austria

      Then it was time to board a bus for a 5 hour ride into the Austrian alps. We got there really late and once again I was too tired to eat dinner. Fortunately our hotel was right at the location of the Alpine luge coaster so no need to worry about holding others up if we were a bit late in the morning.

      Es geht nach Rivoli zum Forte Wohlgemuth

      Vorbei an Schafherden geht es stetig leicht bergauf. Unser Ziel ist die Villa Mohlgemuth bei Rivalität, denn von dort soll man schönen Ausblick haben. Leider ist das Tor zur Villa wegen Corona verschlossen. Sie werden erst die nächste Saison wieder öffnen steht auf einem Plakat. Dann geht es eben weiter zum Etschradweg . Huch 10% Steigung, gut dass wir motorisiert sind😀. Die Abfahrt ist wieder genial. Heute wagen wir es auch noch nach Lazise zu fahren, es sind wirklich weniger Touristen als am Wochenende. So können wir am See sitzen und Eisbecher genießen.Read more
