      Nothing could be more adorable than dozens of deer trying to steal deer cookies from you at Nara Park! Within the park we also visited Tōdai-ji (東大寺), a Buddhist temple complex that was once one of the powerful Seven Great Temples. Its Great Buddha Hall houses the world's largest bronze statue of the Buddha Vairocana, known in Japanese as Daibutsu.Read more

      Nara - deer and more deer!

      Taking full advantage of our Rail Pass, we head to Nara for a day trip. Nara is approximately 1hr from Kyoto by train. It is famed to be the original historic capital of Japan.. or something like that... But the main reason we were interested in going is because of Nara Park.. which is full of deer!

      A quick walk past the town centre and its got a great friendly vibe. Straight to Nara Park (we slept in and were short on time) and there are deer everywhere! So many deer. And all super friendly. You can buy deer biscuits to feed them from several vendors in the park but we had already pre-purchased some crackers on the way over (they were super tasty! The deer had to share with us :-P ). We had our staple lunch of sushi and tofu salad (from the supermarket but still amazing) in the park then proceeded to feed the deer, who were not shy at all! They are friendly but could get a bit pushy.. one of them stole and ate one of our maps, and if you didn't feed them fast enough they would start butting you! The polite ones had the courtesy to bow after they were fed :-)

      Deer feeding complete we head back to Kyoto and end up having dinner at a local Ramen restaurant.. so cheap.. and amazing!! We had fried rice (on our own hot plate), gyoza, veges, karrage chicken, rice and an egg... Omg it was sooo good! Everything in Japan is delicious!      Read more

      Aujourd'hui nous visitons Nara. Cette ville est un lieu touristique notamment pour son parc de 500 ha qui abrite une dizaine de temples, et des cerfs en liberté. Nous nous sommes promenés pendant 4 bonnes heures dans ce parc passant de temple en temple. La plus part sont des temples bouddhistes comme Kofuku-ji, classé au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO, ainsi que Todai-ji, qui abrite une énorme statut en bronze de Bouddha. Nous avons poursuivi avec le temple shintoïste Kasuga Taisha décoré de plus de 3000 lanternes, 2000 sont en pierre et bordent les chemins d'accès au temple et 1000 sont en métal accrochées aux édifices.

      Il y a donc aussi une quantité phenomenale de cerfs en liberté. Selon la légende la ville était protégée par une divinité sur un cerf Silka. Depuis, ces animaux sont sacrés et protecteurs de Nara.

      Nous avons terminé notre journée en testant enfin un restaurant de sushis, mais les plus rigolos, ceux qui ont des tapis roulants. Le principe est simple, les cuisiniers confectionnent les sushis en fonction de la fréquentation du restaurant. Ils les mettent sur des assiettes différentes en fonction du prix. Et il n’y a plus qu’à se servir en fonction de ses envies. Si vraiment aucun sushis du tapis ne vous inspire, il y a toujours possibilité de commander au cuistot. Le côté positif c’est que l’on se laisse tenter par des sushis qui sont hors carte quand on les voit passer, le côté négatif c’est qu’il y a beaucoup de perte. Comme on est sur des produits extrêmements frais, si le sushis ne trouve pas preneur au bout de 5 tours, le cuisinier le jette à la poubelle.      Read more

      El viaje a Nara desde la estacion de Namba fue un viaje de 1 hora con el jrail pass!

      Nara es conocida por sus templos y su buda gigante!, Además de los ciervos que caminan libremente por los alrededores

      Es un lugar hermoso para visitar!

      After leaving Hinase I headed back to the farm at Sonobe for a couple weeks, so I decided to visit Nara, Japan's capital before Kyoto. Unfortunately I only had about 3 hours to visit after the 2.5 hour train ride so I just walked to one of the sites. I recommend spending at least a day here.

      Here we are... in Nara! A dream come true for me!... except, it is not as I had expected. We have to survive constant rain, wind, crowds of tourists and school kids day trips, biting deers and their poo all day!! But strong as ever the Tikus team made it trough the paths of the Nara park, discovering temple after shrine, after pond, until impressive Todai-ji which hosts the Big Buddhaaa!!!Read more

      Nara: The City of Deers

      According to the legend, the god Kasugs Taisha came to Nara with a white deer in the old days. So till this day the deers in Nara are considered sacred and they are all over the town (but mainly at Nara Park where the grasses and tourists are). Louis CK hated them vut i find them extremely cute. They are not scared of humans, so you can touch and feed them. Normaly it is the other way around, some of the humans seem to be afraud of thwn, since the deers could be aggresive that a gang of them will surround you if they smell any food with you.
      The female deers are well groomed, have soft fur and looked cute, so they got alot of intention from the tourists and got alot of food. The male deers on the other hand looked like they haven't taken a bath for years, ugly and have hard fur that sometimes clumps up together. They are normally left alone and didn't get any food. I think the male deers have to start being more metrosexual, or else they might die out from starvation      Read more

      Why go to deer park when they are and you everywhere?!?
      Also this place was amazing, with many temples and shrubs, including Todai-ji (with huge Buddhas); the largest wooden structure in the world!!!

      Nara: Alone in the Dark

      The road to Nara was beautiful. I could here the river flowing at the side, i could see forests and mountains evwrywhere. It was nice. Slowly i felt that i have drained out all the energy that i got. And it was going to get dark soon.
      After a while it was extremely dark, and i was forced to climb up into a next hill. I didn't want to. Not because i of slope so much, rather because i could see the road i was heading was narrow and it was heading me into a forest up the hill and it was extremely dark in there. For the same time since I did not have any internet connection it was risky to try out an alternative path. So i gave it a go...I turned on the lights and climb up the hill. It was so dark i could only rely on my front lamp which is not that bright. Whenever the bikes shakes the light flakes. A couple times it completely turned itself off. Then it was completely dark, i could here the river flowing but nothing else. I stopped. I hit the light a couple times and it turned back on again...what a relieve! This happened a couple times and even though i dont believe in ghosts the forest was kind of eerie. I wanted to get out of the as soon as possible!
      The climb seemed to take forever. My Navi said i shpuld be arriving the peak soon, but i still kept climbing up. I dont have much energy left, but for the same time i wanted to get the hell out of the forest.
      After some time i cycled down the hill carefully, since i was still in the forest. All of the sudden i arrived into what seems to be a rice field, i could see the sky and it was a bit brighter. Soon after that the road got wider and i saw cars passing by. At last! I survived the scary hill. The last Kilometers was pretty easy, i could not wait to arrive at hte hostel.
      The hostel was quite cool, it was a soya-brewery factory about 100 year ago, turned into a youth hostel. I was glad that i arrived.
      I ate at the Hostel and it was expensive but not that good. The waitress explained to me that she like Malaysia and had been there for several times and will be going to Kota Kinabalu in 1 month.
      I took a walk around the hostel, tring to clear my mind and had some drinks. After a while i went back to the hostel and tried to get some sleep      Read more
