Isla Contoy

Trauminsel Isla Contoy. 🦀🐟🦎🐚🐢 Ein Naturschutzgebiet, in dem es keine Hotels etc. gibt. 200 Touristen dürfen gestaffelt pro Tag auf ein bestimmtes Gebiet, der Rest gehört den Tieren und Mangroven. Es sind diese unglaublichen Farben, wechselnd mit Sonne und Wind und die Ruhe, die einen verzaubern. Und ich lerne dort etwas. Ich habe meinen Opa immer beneidet darum, wie er Toter Mann spielen konnte im See, heutzutage nennt man das wohl floating. Ich habe das nie geschafft, einfach entspannt auf der Wasseroberfläche zu liegen ohne Hilfsmittel. Isla Contoy mit dem Salzwasser hat es mir beigebracht. Hände hintern Kopf, ausstrecken, in den Himmel schauen, Kopf ausschalten und sich Richtung Pelikane treiben lassen. Die Ohren unter Wasser hörte ich nur das Meer und manchmal meinen eigenen Herzschlag. Unglaublich friedlich. Ich wollte da gar nicht wieder weg. Aber diese Stunden sind jetzt in meiner Erinnerung gespeichert - unter einmalig wundervoll.
Bevor ich hier noch zu rührselig werde… die Braunpelikane jagden auch hier, wenn sie sich nicht gerade auf den Pfählen trockneten. Stabähnliche, fast durchsichtige Fische schwammen durchs Wasser und manchmal sprangen sie auch munter an der Oberfläche rum. Einsiedlerkrebse, die sich irgendwo ne Muschel als Eigenheim besorgt hatten, wuselten hin und her. (Ein Schild wies darauf hin, dass das Landtiere sind. Es gab wohl bereits genügend wohlgemeinte Rettungsversuche, bei denen Leute sie ins Wasser warfen wegen der Hitze…)
Eine Regenfront zog auf, aber nachdem die Bootscrew nichts unternahm, entspannte ich mich wieder und dachte, na, da wird die wohl wegziehen. Tat sie dann auch.
Auf dem Rückweg gab es noch mehrmals ein Wettrennen mit den grossen Meeresschildkröten. Eine streckte auch mal Kopf und Flosse aus dem Wasser. 😍 Bei Sonnenuntergang waren wir wieder zurück in Marina Punto Norte.

Dream island Isla Contoy. 🦀🐟🦎🐚🐢 A nature reserve where there are no hotels etc. 200 tourists are allowed to enter a certain area per day, the rest belongs to the animals and mangroves. It is these unbelievable colours, changing with the sun and wind, and the tranquility that enchants you. And I learned something there. I have always envied my grandpa the way he could play dead man in the lake, nowadays they call it floating. I've never been able to just lie relaxed on the surface of the water without any aids. Salty Isla Contoy taught water me. Put your hands behind your head, stretch out, look up at the sky, turn your head off and drift towards the pelicans. With my ears under water I only heard the sea and sometimes my own heartbeat. Incredibly peaceful. I didn't want to leave there again. But those hours are now stored in my memory - under uniquely wonderful.
Before I get too maudlin… the brown pelicans also hunt here when they are not drying themselves on the posts. Rod-like, almost transparent fish swam through the water and sometimes jumped around happily on the surface. Hermit crabs, who had gotten a shell as their own home somewhere, scurried back and forth. (One sign advised that these are land animals. There have probably been enough well-intentioned rescue attempts where people threw them in the water because of the heat...)
A rain front rolled in, but after the boat crew did nothing, I relaxed and thought, well, it'll probably move away. It did.
On the way back there was races with the big sea turtles. One even stuck its head and fins out of the water. 😍 At sunset we were back in Marina Punto Norte.Read more
