I didn’t walk today 😔
The doctor was very emphatic on taking a rest day so I caught a bus early in the morning to León. Most of the city entrances were not the nicest to walk so I figured this would be a good section to skip without much FOMO.

I got to town so early that I managed to get some beautiful shots at the Cathedral without anyone in the square! I sat at a cafe there to enjoy my coffee with a view and shortly after I bumped into Lukas and Tommaso. Of course we’d reunite! I also met Little John (who was going through his Camino spending more by staying in private rooms to spare people from his snoring - good people still exist!).

After dropping my things off at the Albergue, we went to a mass with singing nuns (finally!). It was beautiful 😍

From there, Lukas, Tommaso and I went to the museum and then walked around the city centre as there was a big medieval festival taking place. There was music and food and market stalls everywhere.

Later that day, after resting my leg a bit more, I caught up with the Spanish ladies and we went to visit the Cathedral, known for its more than 130 church windows! Breathtakingly beautiful! ⛪️

By the time we came out, it was pouring so we found an undercover spot to enjoy some food and drinks, one last hurrah before we parted ways the next day and another bittersweet farewell. We were all headed to Astorga but they’d walk the stretch in 3 days and I would do it in 2 as Jorge would visit me on the trail there 😊Read more

Det viste seg at Noreen, den australske damen som jeg har blitt kjent med, hadde fødelsesdag. Sammen med en mor og datter fra USA, ble det et glass sjampanje på oss hver og senere ble det middag. En veldig hyggelig kveld.

I dag har jeg ikke gjort stort. Jeg spasert til Cathalon butikken, 20 min hver vei, kjøpte en langermet T-skjorte, en treningsbukse og en lett vindjakke - alt lett, pustende og ment for jogging. Jeg tror dette vil fungere for de kalde morgener som jeg erfarer.
Ellers har vannblemmer fått hvile og eller har jeg ikke gjort noe som helst. I morgen tar jeg bussen ut av Leon. Dagsetappen er ca 35 km, som jeg reduserer med 10 km, med buss ut av Leon og dets industriområder. Tur i industriområder er ikke gøy og da er buss innenfor
Litt om katedralen i Leon, som er bygget i gotisk stil, rundt 1000 år gammel. Katedralen er kjent for sine 130 dekorerte vinduer og 3 store rosevinduer, en av de gotiske katedralene med flest dekorete vinduer (blyglass). Det blir en flott stemning i katedralen når solen lyser opp vinduene som speiler seg inn i katedralen.Read more

Heute stand die Besichtigung der Kathedrale von León an.
Wir sind ja bekennend nicht die großen Kirchenanhänger, aber man muss es der katholischen Kirche schon lassen - was die in den Jahrhunderten für Prachtbauten erbauen ließen ist schon zu bewundern. So auch die Kathedrale in León, die wir heute inkl. Museum besichtigt haben.
Danach ging es noch kurz durch ein paar Seitengassen, vorbei an einem weiteren Gaudi-Palast bis wir aufbrachen Richtung Salinas und Haro.Read more

I've been wondering who paints all the yellow arrows that guide the way on the Camino. As I was leaving León this morning I found one arrow painter at work.
And here are some examples of arrows that I've seen along the way. It can be unpredictable as to where to look for the arrows. They are on the road, on rocks, on lamp poles and sides of buildings.Read more

Dags att checka in på ett härbärge som drivs av nunnorna vid Monesteria Santa Maria. Mässa kl 19 och välsignelse kl 21.30. Har tvättat och duschat. Besök i León Katedral. På kvällen hoppade vi pilgrimsmenyn. Jag tog morcilla (blodkorv) och Måns åt revben.Read more

Tonight and tomorrow we will stay in Leon, resting up for the last 200 miles. We’ll devote tomorrow to the magnificent Gothic Cathedral.

The past few days have been easy walks with few climbs. We passed the halfway point at Sahagun, where we celebrated with KitKats!

Each church steeple, and other high places, seems to have a resident stork. We can see the little ones in the nests and we often hear the parents clacking over their babies.

We also passed a boot graveyard today, out in the middle of nowhere.

We still see some of the same folks we’ve been walking with for several weeks, including a young photographer for the Miami Dolphins who’s here on special assignment.

And we’ve eaten many of the French bread sandwiches, called bocadillos, a staple of the pilgrim diet, along with fried eggs and Spanish tortilla (a potato, egg and cheese pie).Read more

Slept in and had relaxed coffees this morning. Went to see the cathedral and was blown away. These photos don’t come close to the experience. Amazing they could do this with the technology available then. Amazing they would put so much effort into building it. The population of Leon was 5,000 at the time it was built.

Yesterday met a Dutch man who is on his 8th Camino and is 84 years old! We saw him on the trail a couple of weeks ago and he left us in the dust.

Going to go see the Basilica of San Isidro after siesta this afternoon. It is supposed to be equally interesting.

Then it’s back on the Camino tomorrow morning. We think we’re a couple of weeks until we finish in Santiago de Compostela!Read more

Da unser Bünzlikonto vollgeladen ist mit all den Kirchen interessiert uns heute nur ein Gebäude in Leòn, die Boulderhalle la Nava.
Endlich wieder Sport, am liebsten überhängend.
Nach 3 Stunden fällt, Simon halb tot von der Wand und wir können weiter richtung Norden.
Die Landschaft wird hügeliger und die goldgelben Kornfelder weichen dem dunkeln Grün der Wälder. Wir fahren entlang der Flüsse durch tiefe Täler und halten bei einem Skigebiet auf Passhöhe. (1370 m.ü.m.) 😅
Abends bekommen wir fast ein bisschen Heimweh beim Blick aus dem Fenster. Die Mutterkühe und ihre ein duzend "Chälbli" interessieren sich für unser Abendessen.

Traveler Daran dachten wir auch schon, waren uns aber noch nicht 100% sicherob sich der Besuch lohnt. Aber wenn das so ist sparren wir uns die Stadt für nach dem Surfcamp auf. So in 3 Wochen.

(Or you look for other pilgrims who seem to know where they’re going).
Traveler Church is beautiful. Signs helpful. Graffiti appropriate. Are y’all half way?
