I was looking forward to cycling again, but today is a merciless day. It rains all day. On top of that, there are four high peaks, so that at the end of the day I have climbed 1 400 metres in altitude (the route over the Pyrenees had 1 530). Driving is no fun today ☹️
I am a bit frozen through and keep warm during the day with thoughts of a crackling fireplace and a cosy sheepskin blanket, at some point I don't want to anymore and pitch the tent almost right next to the road.
I crawl into my warm sleeping bag and forget about the rain outside. All is well again. 😄

In the afternoon I roll out of Spain and into Portugal. Time for a little final statistics:

Offene Grenze gefunden

Heute ist es so weit und wir wollen unser Glück bei der kleinen Fussgängerbrücke probieren. Hoffentlich ist sie noch offen und es klappt alles.

Sicher ist, ohne Karten-App (oder vielleicht eine 1:25'000 Karte) hätten wir den Übergang niemals gefunden. Wir verwenden mittlerweile meist die App mapy.cz, da diese gegenüber der App maps.me eine bessere Geländedarstellung hat. Die Höhenmeter scheint aber Google-Maps am besten zu optimieren. (Auf irgendwelchen eigenartigen Wegen sind wir mit allen dreien schon gelandet. 😅)

So fahren wir zielstrebig auf den Übergang hin und können diesen auch ohne Probleme passieren. Tatsächlich sind wir auch nicht die einzigen - ein spanisches Paar kreuzt uns zu Fuss gerade auf der Grenze. Nach der Brücke ist wiedereinmal schieben angesagt, um den steilen Fusspfad hoch zu kommen. Wir sagen "Adeus Portugal, hola España!".

Die Grenze ist übrigens ab dem 1. Mai wieder regulär offen und es braucht weder PCR-Test noch Quarantäne - ist also alles halb so wild. 🤣Read more
