      Lauterbrunnen Switzerland

      Lauterbrunnen sits in one of the most impressive trough valleys in the Alps, between gigantic rock faces and mountain peaks. With its 72 thundering waterfalls, secluded valleys, colourful alpine meadows and lonely mountain inns, the Lauterbrunnen Valley is one of the biggest nature conservatories in Switzerland. Dave and I spent three days here visiting some of the waterfalls as well as watching one of the most extreme sports; basejumping which Lauterbrunnen is a haven for. We could hear the helicopter bring people up to the top of the cliff faces daily and even caught a few glimpses of a jumper at the tail end of his jump after pulling his parachusette and landing in the "garden" which is the green valley floor in the middle of the cliff peaks. There are 18000 jumps here every year, the death rate is 4 in 10,000. We saw Staubbach falls which is one of the highest free flow waterfalls in europe dropping 974 feet. This area is also home to the Jungfrau station the highest railway station in Europe as well as the Great Aletsch Glacier which stretches across the mountains which you can see behind the cliff faces in a few photos. This Glacier is 23km long and is the largest Glacier in the Alps as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.Les mer

      Lauterbrunnen

      Our travelling day in Switzerland was one of our best travelling days yet. All the trains were amazing and really fancy, and the views from the train window felt like we were on a mountain tour train but we were just on a transport train. We did accidentally sit in first class compartment for about ten minutes until they checked our tickets. We got to Lauterbrunnen and it was amazing. On the bus ride to our accomodation Mum met an old friend called Sally from uni. Our Airbnb was awesome too, the view was super cool and it was one of the biggest Airbnbs yet.

      On our second day we wanted to wake up early to go for a few walks but that didn’t really work out, so instead we woke up at 9 and left around 10:30 to go up a few mountains by train and gondola. Some of the gondolas sat like 30 people and we had them to ourselves. We also looked around a lot of the towns on the hill. We even passed a park which had its own bowling ally which Dad said is very Swiss.

      On our third day we took a cruise on a lake which was very long. We then caught a lift thing that was super steep and took us up to another smaller mountain.

      On our 4th and last day we went up to Grindelwald for a walk to a lake and a cliff walk. We got a gondola to ourselves again too. The mountains were amazing. On the tops of them were snow and old glaciers and all the trees were turning orange because it’s Autumn in October which feels weird. To sum up, the mountains were one of my favourite parts of this whole trip and I will definitely miss them as we go on back to France.      Les mer

      28. Launterbrunnen

      Today we had a very scenic drive to Launterbrunnen via Interlaken, it was a nice sunny day so we loved the drive weaving between the mountains. We stopped at a few scenic points enroute and ended up taking a mountain road which definitely was not for vans. We had a good 1.1/2 mile reverse with a cliff to our side which was fun... 😬😬😂.
      We arrived in Launterbrunnen and were blown away with it's beauty, there are many waterfalls coming down the 300mtr cliffs, which is awesome to see.
      We stopped and walked down the glacier valley to another waterfall, which Maddy loved. Once we got back we checked into the campsite and made ourselves at home.
      We entertained ourselves in the shop looking at the prices, £10 for a small Toblerone, ouch...
      In the evening they light up the cliff with the waterfall and this was mesmerising. We enjoyed a night time walk with this in the background.
      After a nice chicken supper, we watched some TV before heading to bed as tomorrow is the day for the longest sledge run in Europe! Hopefully it is open!      Les mer

      Trummelbach Falls

      Switzerland's "waterfall inside a mountain." A really cool experience, actually. Trummelbach is the Alps' most powerful waterfall and it actually is inside the mountain, twisting and thundering through a bunch of caves. You view it through a series of caves that you reach via a funicular they tunneled right into the mountain.Les mer

      Lauterbrunnen ist eine Gemeinde in den Schweizer Alpen, zu der auch die Ortschaft Lauterbrunnen gehört. Diese liegt im Lauterbrunnental mit seinen steilen Felsen und dem 300 m hohen Staubbachfall. In der Nähe stürzt das Gletscherwasser der Trümmelbachfälle über eine Klamm die Felswand hinunter und an Aussichtsplattformen vorbei. Eine Seilbahn führt von der Ortschaft Stechelberg auf das Schilthorn. Von hier hat man Blick über die Berner Alpen. ― GoogleLes mer

      Interlaken (Day 4)-Lauterbrunnen &Mürren

      What we did:
      - Airbnb saga hits the crescendo. After a sweltering nights sleep interrupted by dreams of spider attacks, we woke up to someone in the unit. They were downstairs but we understood that our host was gone. Trent talks to the guy, and as it turns out, there are many other roommates that have access to this “shared space” and therefore our unit.
      - We follow-up with our Airbnb host again on the growing list of issues, and that we essentially want out of the reservation. Under Airbnb rules we have a host of complaints that enables us to leave. However, our host Daniel is extremely unhelpful, blames us, and generally throws a fit (Trent absolutely despises Daniel). Daniel is unwilling to find a compromise so we pack up and leave the apartment and file a formal complaint with Airbnb for a refund.
      - We rebook to what turns out to be an awesome place up in the mountains of Wengen, and after 1-2 hours of phone calls won our refund battle with Airbnb handily. Nice profit on the refund too! Take that Daniel 🖕
      - Morale and great vibes reestablished (spider fears may take longer to abate) we set off on the picturesque North Face trail from Murren, up through the mountains and then ending down in Gimmelwald. Absolutely a top 3 hike ever for both of us - Switzerland is a gift to the earth; the place is incredible.
      - Back to Pension Gimmelwald for another big beer to celebrate our battle against Daniel and rave about our views from the hike. Steph’s retirement might be running a coffee shop in Gimmelwald and Trent can be the bartender.
      - Stopped for dinner in Lauterbrunnen and crashed in our clean, comfortable, and spider free hotel room. Daniel 🖕

      What we ate:
      - Made big egg and veggie scrambles at the airbnb before leaving and packed sandwiches for lunch.
      - 1st tourist entrapment of the trip with $65 for two burgers at Restaurant Schutzen in Lauterbrunnen… we know better but places close early in Switzerland and we were running out of options. Reminder - check the menu prices!

      Fun Facts:
      - Airbnb support is top notch
      - You CANNOT die from a spider bite from Swiss spiders.      Les mer

      Cog Train to Kleine Scheidegg

      After a short bus trip from Interlaken we arrived at Lauterbrunnen station where we caught the local train (a cog railway) to Kleine Scheidegg which is 6,700 ft above sea level. There we changed trains to head to the Top of Europe.

      Our guide's name was Kid. He was quite eccentric but an excellent guide and knew all the best photo spots and how to navigate all the queues. Kid has been doing this trip 5x per week for 20 years and he never ceases to be amazed at the scenery.      Les mer

      We hebben eerst Elianne opgehaald in Zürich, en toen samen een paar dagen op camping Jungfrau in Lauterbrunnen gestaan. Wat een geweldig mooie camping was dit! Bovendien zaterdagavond de verjaardag van Deborah nog gevierd in het restaurant op de camping. 👍Les mer

      Lauterbrunnen

      Von der Kleinen Scheidegg ging es zurück nach Lauterbrunnen, wo Volker schon auf dem Parkplatz am Bahnhof auf uns wartete.
      Vor der Rückfahrt ins Hotel legten wir noch einen kurzen Fotostopp am Staubbachfall ein, der aus ca. 300 m in die Tiefe stürzt. Danach machten wir eine kleine Fahrt durch das imposante Lauterbrunnental, das zu beiden Seiten von bis zu 600 m hohen Felswänden begrenzt wird. In diesem Trogtal konnten wir auch den höchsten Wasserfall der Schweiz bestaunen, wenn auch nur aus den Busfenstern. Das ist der 417 m hohe Mürrenbachfall am Piz Gloria. In dem nach diesem Gipfel benannten 360 ° - Restaurant wurde 1968 der James-Bond-Film "Im Namen Ihrer Majestät" gedreht.Les mer
