      Taipei at night

      April 13, 2018 in Taiwan ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Taipei is a city with lots of Temple's located in downtown. Also it is very famous for the night markets, where you can buy all kind of cheap food, clothes and other stuff. Tonight we walked a bit around and had a some food on the night markets.

      Taipei

      August 25, 2016 in Taiwan ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

      25.08.2016

After 12 hours of flight and very weird airplane food we finally arrived in Taipei. Neither of us succeeded in sleeping more than an hour, we were accordingly exhausted when our 18 hours of stopover started. The airport was freezing cold while the outside felt like 50°C with 100% humidity. The toilets were permanently unusable because the people there are very serious about keeping it clean. A few hours later our city tour started. The drive into the city alone was incredibly interesting. I never understood the people that talked about cultural shock, now I know exactly what they meant.

Day 1: Are We There Yet???

      January 7, 2018 in Taiwan ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

Today, Kyle, Ms. Tseng and myself (Kelly) left Hamilton, using three buses, one train and two aeroplanes to get to Taiwan.
We had to get up at six in the morning, which I thought was far too early! We said farewell to Ms. Liu and Kyle's family before we left Hamilton on the bus. Lacey seemed especially happy to see her brother board the bus.
      Our journey had begun.
We ate lunch at an airport café then spent both plane trips watching movies and sleeping (if we could).
We didn't arrive at our hotel in Taipei until very early in the morning, but Kyle found that Fitzy was still awake!
Now we are all very tired and need some sleep. Except Lacey, who is probably sleeping very well without her brother.
      Thank you everyone!
      Good night!

I left Myanmar at 10 o'clock. I landed in Taipei at half past four. Miss Tseng's younger brother and his wife took me to dinner in one of the restaurants close to the Taipei 101 building. We ate Korean food. When I was on the plane I broke my glasses, and when we were eating, the teacher's younger brother and his wife always looked me and laughed because my glasses and glasses frames often broke apart. Afterwards we bought jelly milk tea. By the time they dropped me off at the hotel I was tired, but also felt very excited, so I didn't sleep until Kyle arrived, at about 3 in the morning.

Last night with Great aunt Yumei

      March 28, 2019 in Taiwan ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Our short impromptu sojourn in Taipei has been a wonderful addition to the sabbatical world tour. It was such a different experience hanging out not only with locals, but with relatives and the oldest living member of our extended family at that! Great aunt Yumei and Uncle Gu took us to see all sorts of things that we wouldn't have even thought to do without her.

Davy remembers most fondly the pineapple snacks (dried slices as well as shortcake) and also the Confucius temple. Meg was more partial to the Zoo - especially the Penguin House, where Great aunt was so kind as to pick up Qi-e and Joey Flipper souvenirs for the kids.

We will all move on from Taipei with good memories of fun adventures (thankfully vomit-free), lots of laughs, yummy hole-in-the-wall food joints (especially meigan梅乾 cai菜) and of course precious time with those special people called family, who care about us just for being us.
