      Aujourd’hui nous sommes allés à Brighton! Après un voyage en train debout contre une vitre 😭 nous sommes arrivés pour l’heure du déjeuner ce qui annonçait qu’il était temps de se faire un restaurant, de burgers ! (Pour changer😁 ). Malgré le monde nous nous sommes baladés dans Brighton, dans les Lanes, à travers de toutes petites rues entièrement occupées par des bijouteries, pour finalement arriver au Brighton Pier où nous avons testés les machines à sous pour la première fois ( dans un casino 🙀) et évidemment on a perdu, mais, heureux événement, nous avons gagnés pas moins de 800 Tickets aux machines « familiales » ce qui a suffi pour remporter deux mugs et une addiction à vie aux machines à sous 🤩. La ville s’étant remplie de touristes (vraiment vraiment remplie) donc nous nous sommes dirigés vers la gare dans l’espoir de prendre le premier train vers une destination au hasard. Mais avant cela nous sommes passés, pour César, devant le mur de The Big Push, groupe iconique de Brighton, devant lequel le groupe a joué ses plus beaux morceaux ! Ainsi nous avons pris le train vers East Croydon, banlieue londonienne bien plus populaire que ce que nous avais fait jusqu’à présent et donc sans aucun touristes ! Le lieu est très beau, en pleine réhabilitation donc un mélange entre anciennes maisons bourgeoises et nouvelles tours de bureaux ultras-modernes. Après cela nous sommes revenus sur Purley et avons testés un pub local avant d’aller rapidement au KFC puis au Tesco (pour y découvrir que globalement les supermarchés sont bien moins chers qu’en France !!)       Winning big

      We took this morning slowly with a sleep in and coffee (with bickies, of course!) We used some leftover milk sachets we had since we didn't have any fresh milk...

      Having no more milk was what kicked off the decision for us to go and get some for another hot drink.

      On the way to the shops we decided to take a detour to the beach. While Brighton beach is filled with pebbles, it does look very nice, especially in the sad rain drizzle.

      We then explored the Brighton Palace Pier, which is a small amusement park. We wanted to know the general pricing to check it out tomorrow when the weather is supposed to be better. Turns out that there isn't an entry fee so you can walk around the area freely and pay for the rides as you want.

      Another section of the park was a game arcade, which we walked through and decided to spend some quid and play some games. Bec almost immediately hits the jackpot on a game and the machine starts printing tickets for about a minute straight!!

      After that excitement we continue to spend the rest of our money on games. (Without earning too many more tickets.) Before we knew it, 2 hours had gone by... So much for the coffee.

      We ended up cashing in our tickets and it turned out Bec's win was 500 tickets! And in total we had only won ~650 tickets.

      The saddest part was that out of the dozens of options we had for prizes, we excitedly exchanged the tickets for a tea towel and a shot glass. Safe to say our childhood selves were probably quite upset with that choice.

      After we had our fun, we headed to the shops finally and grabbed ourselves some milk and lunch. We then rested for a while before heading back out!

      We walked to Andy's work for a quick drink and to say bye to him, before heading back to the accommodation.

      Southsea to eastleigh then Brighton

      Yesterday I took the bus, from Southsea, first to go see the "Victory" Capt Nelson's ship..in Portsmouth harbour then to Eastleigh to meet our cousins, four of them with their spouses.

      The ship was amazing and I was awestruck by it's size, the ingenuity it must have taken firstly to conceive then to produce. It's a wonder the ship could float under the weight of all the guns on board! Just a huge testament to the craftsmanship of the day and to the hundreds of man hours it would have taken to build.

      It felt a bit Erie as one had to stop in some parts of the decks to get around, the population must have been a lot smaller then? Also around the surgeons area there was a feeling of dread for what must have happened to the men who lost their lives and limbs!!

      From Wikipedia: "HMS Victory is a 104-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy. She was ordered in 1758, laid down in 1759, and launched in 1765. With 245 years of service as of 2023, she is the world's oldest naval vessel still in commission."

      On the bus again, I was met by cousin Jean and her husband Mike at Fareham to travel to Eastleigh in their car. We were to meet at David Mackie' s restaurant called "Steam Town Brewed".

      It is hard to explain the myriad of feelings at being met by our first cousins for the first time! I immediately felt an emotional connection, after searching for them seriously for the last 30 years, it was so easy just to slip into family mode, all catering at once trying to tell and listen to family stories I so wanted to hear!

      We talked about our Grannie who immigrated to Canada, about our Dad's, the brothers John and David Mackie, who had always wanted to meet and never did, the effect of the traumas we all faced in light of their trauma... We talked about our now families and such likenesses and similarities, characteristic traits...the dimples, blue eyes, brown eyes, the everyone talking at once and "over" each other, the creativity and busy ness!

      We enjoyed good food and comfort with each other and said sad goodbyes as I went to catch the last train to Brighton.       Czytaj więcej

      Do you want to go to the seaside?

      Day out at Brighton today. First truly warm and sunny day so was great to spend it by the sea. Some train troubles getting to and from there but well worth the trip. Walked up and down the promenade which was sooo long and straight. First taste of British fish and chips. Checked out the Brighton Pier and had a drink with a view out to the cliffs. Spent a lot of time walking through the interesting alleys and lanes. -V Czytaj więcej

      Brighton

      Nach einer verregneten Nacht werden wir morgens mit einem Sonnenaufgang bei schönstem Wetter verwöhnt. Wir schauen uns dieses Schauspiel aus dem warmen Bett in unserem Knutschi an und freuen uns auf den heutigen Tag.

      Zuerst geht es nur etwas mehr wie 10km nach Brighton. Diese Stadt ist das größte und bekannteste Seebad im Vereinigten Königreich, was vor allem auf den Palace Pier zurückzuführen ist. Dieser rund 550m lange Steg von 1899 ins offene Meer hinaus beherbergt heute einen Freizeitpark, und das wollen wir uns mal anschauen.

      Wir schliessen unser Knutschi ab und steigen die grosse Treppe Richtung Strand hinunter. Es sieht schon da fantastisch aus und die Promenade lässt erahnen, welch vornehmer Ort das früher war. Wir laufen auf dem groben Kiesstrand Richtung Pier und dann auf diesem ganz hinaus. Es ist faszinierend: Spielhallen, Donutstände, Achter- und Geisterbahnen und noch mehr Schiess- und andere Buden und noch viel mehr solche Geldstückmaschinen, wo man ein 5 Penny Stück reinschmeissen kann und dann hoffen, dass einige Geldstücke mehr über den Rand hinunterfallen. Solche Kästen gab es auf Mallorca, wo ich als Kind zum ersten Mal am Meer war… Wir schauen eine Weile den Profis zu, wie sie mit Becher voller Münzen zuerst alle Kästen abklappern und den aussuchen, wo sie am meisten Chancen auf einen Gewinn haben um dann Geldstück um Geldstück einzuwerfen, bis es wieder klappert von herunterfallenden Münzen. Dieser Pier gefällt uns super, vor allem bei diesem Wetter.

      Als wir dann noch ein Eis verdrückt haben, machen wir uns zu Fuss zum Royal Pavillon auf, einem in England einzigartigen Schloss. Es ist einzigartig, haut uns aber nun nicht wirklich aus den Socken. Wir müssen aber zugeben, dass wir es nur von aussen besichtigen und danach durch die Fussgängerzone wieder zum Meer hinunter spazieren und etwas später dann beim Knutschi zurück sind.
      Brighton hat uns sehr gut gefallen.       Czytaj więcej

      Going to the UK

      We traveled on the high speed underwater train from Brussels to Paris to London! It was a very smooth journey and we enjoyed listening to music together! We then took the train the Brighton!       Abwasch mit wenig Wasser

      Okay, wie sparen wir Wasser?
      Oder zuerst, warum überhaupt. Unser lieber Camper ist etwas überladen. Gerade wenn wir einen vollen Dieseltank haben und dann noch 100L Wasser gewichtet das gehörig. Gleichzeitig benötigen wir für (aktuell) 3 Erwachse und 2 Kinder einiges an Wasser zum Kochen, Trinken, WC, und Duschen. (ja, wir benötigen die Dusche, da wir möglichst Autark unterwegs sein wollen. In England geht das nur schwer.

      --> Wasser sparen wies geht.

      Auf den Fotos mache ich euch kurze Bild untertitel
      Natron ist ein natürliches Mineral welches Fett und Schmutz löst. Dies lösen wir im Wasser auf.
      Das verschmutzte Geschirr und Pfannen etc spühlen wir im schlimmsten fall mit einem Wasser-druckspray vor. Anschliessend kommt das Natron drauf gesprüht, evt. kurz einwirken, schruppen mit einem Schwamm und dann wieder mit dem Wasserspray abspühlen und auf einer Abtropfmatte zwischenlagern.

      So benötigen wir pro Tag nur 1,5 L Wasser für den Abwasch

      London->Brighton

      Heute sind wir um 8 aufgestanden und haben gepackt. Dann sind wir uns Frühstück holen gegangen und um 10 sind wir dann los zur Busstation. Wir sind dann 3 Stunden nach Brighton gefahren. In Brighton sind wir erstmal an den Strand gegangen, waren dann kurz im Hostel und sind dann essen gegangen. Czytaj więcej

      Endstation für heute: Brighton

      Auf dem Weg nach Brighton suchten wir über Airbnb schon mal nach einem Zimmer. Wir fanden ein nettes kleines Zimmer direkt in der Stadt, sodass wir fussläufig alles erreichen konnten. Beim ersten Blick auf das Haus lief mir ein Schauer über den Rücken 😬. Im Flur war es ok, wir mussten bis in den 4. Stock! Das Zimmer ist ok, das Bad gegenüber gewöhnungsbedürftig, obwohl…da kann ich mich nicht dran gewöhnen🙈. Naja, eine Nacht werden wir überleben…hoffen wir jedenfalls 😂. Ein bisschen mulmig ist uns schon.
      Heute stand mal italienisch auf dem Programm 👍. Danach sind wir zum Bekannten Brighton Pier, leider konnten wir nur von außen schauen, der Pier wird abends geschlossen. Morgen nach dem Frühstück, hoffe wir finden etwas, werden wir den Pier erkundigen und dann gehts weiter in die Grafschaft Devon, wo schon ein wunderschönes Zimmer wartet 😝.
      Allerdings ist der Brighton Pier und Brighton am Abend schon sehr beeindruckend!

      Brighton Pier

      Heute morgen brauchten wir erstmal ein schönes Frühstück. Wir fanden das „Post House Café“, welches nicht nur deftiges sondern auch süßes Frühstück auf der Karte hatte. Wir aßen Pancakes mit Raspberries 👍. Sehr lecker! Gestärkt machten wir uns auf den Weg zum Brighton Pier. Hier war es wie in einer Spielhalle, überall Greifarmautomaten, Glücksräder und etliche andere Automaten. Wenn man möchte kann man dort ein Vermögen loswerden 😬. Außerdem gibt es die Möglichkeit verschiedene Fahrgeschäfte, wie in einem Freizeitpark, zu besuchen. Vom Ende des Piers blickten wir auf die Küstenstraße von Brighton!
      Nun machten wir uns auf den Weg zum Auto, um unsere Reise Richtung Cornwall fortzusetzen.       Czytaj więcej
