Esher/London

Temperature: 11 degrees this morning in Esher and a high of 12 degrees in London this afternoon.

Went out for our normal morning walk before catching train and Underground to have one last quick nose around V&A before heading to Kensington Palace. As we were trying to get to the palace, we got caught up in a downpour, we tried to shelter under a tree with no leaves until we saw two policemen standing under a shelter outside the Israeli Consulate, so we headed straight to them. They were very kind and let us share their small shelter.
Huge queue to get into Kensington Palace. I must say we both preferred Hampton Court Palace.
By the time we had finished in the palace, it was fine, so we enjoyed a leisurely stroll to our accommodation at the VSC. It is still very much a Lebanese area with not many English speaking folk, felt very much out of place. We are close to Marble Arch.
Tonight we went to a local pub for dinner and as it wasn't raining then walked around Portman Park.Read more

Marble Arch, London

Temperature: 9 degrees here this morning with a high of 9 degrees.
Today, we walked through Hyde Park and St James Park to go to Buckingham Palace to see the changing of the guard. Anyone would think it was the weekend because even though we arrived really early, we couldn't get to where the change would be, so we decided to head up The Mall and watch them march down. We found a great spot, so that was good. From there, we walked to Fortun and Masons as I had never been inside. Thoroughly enjoyed looking around there, it was amazing. From there, we caught the underground to have one more look at Covent Garden, but it was packed. We had a delicious hot chocolate at Hotel Chocolat before using the underground to get us to Marble Arch. It was a full-on day, and we absolutely loved our cup of tea once we arrived back at the VSC.
We stayed in tonight and had at the club.Read more

Heute Morgen ging es um 9:30 Uhr zu Fuß Richtung Hydepark und dann zum Buckingham Palace. Hier fand gerade die Wachablösung statt. Wir waren dort halt nur leider nicht die ersten und einzigen Touristen.
Also weiter entlang der Themse in Richtung Millennium Brücke (für Harry Potter Fans wohl ein Muss) und anschließend auf Nahrungssuche.
Am Abend hatten wir für die ABBA Voyage Karten. Wouw, sowas technisch Einzigartiges habe ich noch nie gesehen. Einfach nur sprachlos 😍. 1:25h eine Show der Superlative!Read more

London/Esher

Temperature: A cool 8 degrees here in London this morning. A high of 11 degrees in Esher this afternoon.

Today we walked from Marble Arch to Buckingham Palace where we joined a short queue at the Queens Gallery to see the Holbein Exhibition.
It was amazing. From there, we walked up the Birdcage Walk to Waterloo Station to catch the afternoon train back to Esher.

Selfridges - wow and wow again

Great day panned out well. We all had a lovely lie in, Lulu arrived at ours early but couldn’t get in cos the chain was on, so phoned me to go down to open up. Breakfast done and dusted and we all went back to bed for a little while.
Beth and Kel were off out to meet a friends son for lunch and Susie and I were off to Selfridges to have a peak and wander.
As you know there are a diverse range of people in London, and today was no exception. Couldn’t resist a photo of the amazingly made up young fellow…you don’t see that in Whangarei! A cocktail bar on the ground floor amongst the handbags. Bags over $5k, babies shoes made of velvet normally 200 pd reduced to 80pd, (sorry Sunny and Zoe, not for you). Every price was escalated in that block of land. Saw some wigs and as my boys are forever telling me I should get one, gave it a go. Closed my eyes when one was put on and squealed in fright when I opened them. 😂 OMG looked like I did at 17. But no, synthetic hair is not for me!
Up to Aubain for lunch on the 2nd floor. Susie and I agree, best lunch we have had on this holiday. Nice little Pinot Gris to go with my Lobster Bisque Spaghetti and a French Rose for Susie with her Goats Cheese salad. Deeeeeelicious! And wouldn’t you know it, there was Pommery Champagne on the wall.
Beth had arrived to join us after her fab lunch with Kel and Alex so we were set to have another wander around.
Purchased a glasses cleaner, but no Selfridges bag 😩. So Susie being the ninja shopper she is took one for the team with her purchase and asked for two extra Selfridge bags for her friends🤭
A wander along to Reiss for the coat Susies been thinking about, and yep thats done and dusted too. Quick black cab ride to Liberty, and I found some OUD candles - (Jo Malone no longer makes that scent) so duly stocked up. Thats it, no more shopping for me. My bags are groaning.
Came back to relax, watch a bit of the rugby, and then off to bed. Early start in the morning, we are HoHoing and doing a river cruise. Should be fun, nice warm day. Hope to get to St Pauls today as well.Read more

Peter Hook und nochmal nach Camden.

Der Grund warum wir überhaupt in London waren ist Peter Hook. Der Mann ist eine Legende, spielte er doch in 2 der bekanntesten Bands des Universums Joy Divison und New Order. Seine Setlist liest sich daher eher wie ein Auszug der Hall of Fame. Das Konzert war ein Traum, Danke Hooky. Den Abend ließen wir natürlich zünftig im Pub ausklingen.
Heute letzter Tag bei schönstem Wetter noch einmal durch London, ein bisschen Hyde Park, Speakers Corner und nochmal nach Camden Town bummeln und Shoppen. Der eine oder andere Pub lag zufällig auf dem Weg. Auf Wiedersehen London bis hoffentlich bald.

Tag der Museen 🦕

Gestartet haben wir unsere Städtetrip mit einem Spaziergang durch den Hyde Park. Von hier aus war es nur ein Katzensprung ins Frameless Immersive Arts Museum. Eine beeindruckende Kunstausstellung die, wie der Name bereits verrät, über die Wände hinaus, Kunstwerke in Videoform darstellt. In insgesamt 5 Räumen werden die verschiedenen Epochen durch unterschiedliche Darstellungen gezeigt. Eine Vorführung geht dabei immer ca 5-7 Minuten und ist wirklich beeindruckend. Um den Museumstag zu vervollständigen sind wir anschließend noch ins National History Museum gefahren und haben uns die dortige Ausstellung mit knapp über 70 Millionen Objekten angeschaut.Read more

Unsere 38 stündige Heimreise beginnt in San José und führt uns über London nach Zürich. In London haben wir 20h Zeit unseren Anschlussflug zu erwischen. Wir erweitern den Weg zum entsprechenden Terminal um einen Abstecher ins Stadtzentrum, wo wir einen geballten Vorgeschmack auf die bereits vergessene und uns in der Schweiz ebenfalls erwartende Polleninflation erhalten. Zurück im Flughafen blasen wir unsere Luftmatratzen auf und quartieren uns für die Nacht neben einem Flughafenbistro ein.Read more
