Home away from home

My husband, Larry, knows the drill. The moment we step into a hotel room, before we drop off our suitcases or flop onto the bed, I want a photo of the space. Same goes on a cruise ship.

It comes with being a travel writer. I might need that pic for an article. So here you go! This room is our home away from home for the next couple of months.

First-time cruise travelers are often startled by how small staterooms are, but I rather like it. My favorite thing about this particular room, however, is the window. We were expecting an inside room, which have no windows. Guess they upgraded us. Yee haw!

I love being able to see the water anytime. Maybe I’ll luck out and see dolphins along the way. Wouldn’t that be a treat?Meer informatie

Halloween Embarkation

Our Uber dropped us off at the port to embark the Caribbean Princess on Halloween day. After eating lunch, Taylor and I explored the ship and found a quieter place to hang out until our cabin was ready.

Jenny and Paul got lunch and went to the sail off party until their cabin was ready.

We unpacked and got ready to celebrate. We three girls dressed up as the Pink Ladies from Grease. It was great fun - we removed lots of compliments. Jenny and Paul headed to dinner at the buffet while Taylor and I ate at the Crown Grill. The food was fantastic but the service lacking.

Taylor and I continued our cocktail and wine tour of the ship and headed to bed fairly early so we could hit the beach first thing.Meer informatie

The suites are blocks from the Broward County Convention Center and two miles from the beach. The Sun Trolley, with routes across the whole neighborhood, stops right outside our hotel. The hotel has an outdoor pool, patio, and discounted shuttles to and from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport and the cruise port. A free cooked-to-order breakfast is served daily.Meer informatie

Evergreen Cemetery

Historic Evergreen Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Broward County and is located on S.E. 10th Avenue in the Rio Vista area of Fort Lauderdale. Mr. and Mrs. Ed T. King, a pioneer family in Fort Lauderdale, established Evergreen Cemetery around 1910 or 1911. The cemetery was platted by Mrs. King from a portion of some 90 acres owned by the King family, who settled in Fort Lauderdale in 1895. The City purchased Evergreen Cemetery for $2,000 on June 19, 1917. The City continued to purchase parcels through 1938, which brought the total cemetery acreage to 11 acres.
Today, Evergreen Cemetery is the resting place of Fort Lauderdale's pioneering families and is one of the most-admired locations because of its heritage. The cemetery is set on Cliff Lake and the grounds are filled with lush trees that provide a serene setting amongst the historic monuments and markers. The cemetery currently has plots available and sites for private family mausoleums.
