    Palm Beach

    May 8 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Up early today as we are leaving Fi and Mark at the villa and heading off on our own. (They really could do with a rest from us, bless them.)

We are heading off to Palm Beach, to Bates' Motel, no not really but we are staying at a 1960's Motel.

Traffic was not too bad so we made good time, think we may need a car wash though after getting covered in MayFlies.

We arrived early but were able to check in, room is very good much better than I expected.

We pop next door for a spot of lunch before calling a taxi to take us into town.

    West Palm Beach

    June 7 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

As I walked out the airport, to the Tri Rail Train Ride to West Palm beach where Julian lives, this humidity hit me right in the face. The weather forecast predicted rain and thunder storms every day, wich turned out to appear only occasionally.
It was a complete different world from what I experienced the last 5-6 months.
After an hour drive in this air conditioned train with WiFi, Julian picked me up in a black sports car when we drove to his home in this gated community wich also had a gym and a big pool. He lives together with his girlfriend Mikaela (25yo American/Puerto Rican) and the three other roommates Sebastian, Marvin and Sarah in this beautiful 3 floored house, where I got a place to sleep on the big living room couch.
Mission was clearly discover the all American experience and dive completely into this culture.

In the evening they brought me to two of the biggest Supermarkets around (Costco & Target) where they invited me to pick EVERYTHING I want to try. The markets were just massive and the selection was endless. Fully loaded we couldn't pass my first American Slice of Pizza wich was 🤤

West Palm beach is just as the name suggests full of palmtrees, nice beaches and CRAZY CARS. Car models I have never seen before in my life. Tesla's are just a normal thing over there and these huge trucks wich could pull 100 cows are also all over.

Mikaleas parents live next to a golf course, were we went quite recently. A huge 18hole course with in the middle of this pretty wealthy neighborhood.

Julian is a soccer coach wich trains several teams and in the off season he gives private classes. It was just about off season when I arrived, but one of his under 14-girlteam won the league so they played in the regional playoffs wich took place in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Julian, Mikaela and me decided to drive there 11hours by car through Georgia and South Carolina so I could see the landscape.
We got a room in The Grandover Golf and spa resort wich was completely payed by the club. I got smuggled in as the designated Yoga & stretching instructor...

    Lake Worth Lagoon

    May 8 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

The taxi dropped us off at the bike hire shop and we set off on the trail around the Lagoon. All was going well until we reached the farthest end and Martin's chain broke, good and proper, no riding that anymore so we head back with Martin either free wheeling or scooting along the trail, he looked a bit like Jackson on his balance bike.

Back at the shop we thankfully only get charged for 1 bike. We then head over the bridge, having to wait while it raised its drawbridge to let a sail boat through.

Highlights of the day we then found a bar selling craft beers so of course we had to try them.

The bar was a Beer Garden and Butcher's shop combined with 6 huge Tv's showing sports including the F1 in Miami.

Back to the motel for a shower before tea.

    Henry Morrison Flagler Museum

    February 7, 2020 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

    Old Town Kissimmee

    May 7 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

After a restful afternoon we got ourselves ready to go and see the Vintage Car Rally in Old Town Kissimmee, a good description would be Blackpool on speed.

After parking the car we walked through the display of vintage cars parked up along side the Funfair. Rides included a Big Wheel, Go Karting on a track similar to a roller-coaster, and a Backwards Bungie where people are hoisted up into the air between two large towers and then released to swing backwards and forwards in the air.

We walked around the town and waited for the parade of the cars through the small roads, the smell of diesel was horrendous, no catalytic converters here.

To round off the night we had a beer in a bar and a burger and hot dog in a traditional diner.

Back home through traffic as bad as the M25 at rush hour and this was about 10pm on a Saturday night,, still we have packing to do for our next adventure.

Blackpool in Florida has to be experienced just once! How people actually stay there for a whole holiday is beyond me, but each to their own to enjoy [Fiona]

    Zu Gast bei Donald Trump

    March 18, 2020 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Insgesamt wirkt vieles hier schon sehr gespenstig.
Zugegeben 😏.

    Palm Beach

    June 1, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Read more

    Stuart, Florida

    February 26 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

We made it down to Stuart the week before Thanksgiving and were able to get on a mooring in Sunset Bay Marina, close to the marina facilities. Happy to be back to such a nice little city and great spot to leave the boat for a month, we enjoyed nice warm weather until our flight home in mid December.

Upon our return to Cay Paraiso in mid January, conditions stayed too unsettled for us to leave either to go further south or to cross to the Bahamas. We missed one good window while awaiting the receipt and installation of a new wind instrument, then several more potential windows closed right after they appeared.

Almost 3 weeks later than we've ever left for the Bahamas, we are finally on our way. We had a pleasant motor sail offshore to Lake Worth today and plan to leave in the morning for Chub Cay in the Berrys. We are hoping to be in the Exumas by Wednesday.

Hello, this is wonderful to hear that you are both well and about to go to a beautiful area. We were so close to you. We sailed past Stuart twice as we went to North Palm a month ago. We decided to forgoe the Bahamas this year so we came back to St Augustine where we will stay until end of March. Please let us know when you will be heading back north again. Enjoy the tropics and stay safen [Nancy and Tom]

    Miami -> West Palm Beach

    September 7, 2007 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Read more
